Hi i am Lancellot94 i would like to tell you what i know from my favorite and main champion(even if i know this guide doesn't differs much from the other guides).I have a pretty good experience with Lux and i think i am pretty good with her. Thanks for taking time reading my guide.I hope this guide help you to become a better player with Lux.If you have any idea or suggestion that you want to share with me please write a comment or pm me.Excuse me for my bad English.Under construction,so pls don't judge yet:P.
Pros / Cons
+Really good range abilities
+low cd ulty
+A lot of Aoe damage
+abilities grant vision
+really good against low hp opponents
+have AoE shield
-mana hungry champ
-all abilities skill shots(take some time to get used of them)
-squishy(you are dead if they come near you)
-no escape mechanism except root
I always max Lucent Singularity(after Final Spark of course ) first for it's poking ability, range and AOE damage, second i use Prismatic Barrier it can save you many times better than a little damage form the Light Binding(my opinion).Of course you can max it after Lucent Singularity if you want damage(but with good farm you already have a lot).
So our Skill Sequence are two:
The runes i use are for pretty aggressive game.
The changes that work pretty well too are for glyph:
1) Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power
For more defensive game you can use:
1) Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
2) Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist(not so good because is Magic Resist is most needed at early game against the opponent AP carry)
The changes that work pretty well too are for Seals:
1) Greater Seal of Armor(it is good only if you have a ad opponent on mid)
The changes that work pretty well too are for Quintessence:
1) Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed(if you want more movement speed)
Last you don't want to change the mark. They are much better than your other choices.
I use again an aggressive build for my masteries with 21/0/9.
other Masteries that are good too are:
1)change the 2 points of Havoc for butcher for easier farm at low level
2)Change the 2 points of Expanded Mind for Mastermind for sorter couldown on flash
These are my main suggestion for different masteriess.
So the final masteries i suggest are:
||I really think that Flash is the best summoner spell for Lux,because she don't have any gap closer, you can use it to jump a wall or replace yourself to hit more target with your ulty or shield.
For the second summmoner spell suggest Ignite, because it can give you a kill that could live from your compo and generally kill the low life opponent that you can't kill with just auto attacks.
Other acceptable suggestion:
Teleport is a really good summoner spell, because with teleport you can gank go to a team fight that you are far or even coming back at your lane, but i don't really suggest it because it haves a pretty big cd
Other alternatives don't really suggest them(prefer to avoid them):
Exhaust a really good summoner spell too,you can use it to get away or catch from/to your opponent with slowing him,it can shut down the enemy carry and help you hit your spells. But it is better for support and you shouldn't really try to catch your opponents because your object is to burst them and it is really dangerous and you already have long range abilities.Last you should be able to land your spells without it.
Ghost is a good replacement for Flash but Flash is better(reasons check at Flash)
Barrier:I don't really like it on Lux because you already have a pretty good shield
Cleanse:It is pretty good to get rid of Ignite or Exhaust or any slow or stun, but you are Lux you shouldn't get in range that opponents can hit you with any of this.
Clarity:Ok i agree Lux is a mana hungry champion but still you can get Athene's Unholy Grail and Blue Buff and you are fine.
Heal:After the change a pretty much support item, also you are really squishy so it want really help you.
Smite: you are not going to jungle with Lux
Clairvoyance: just no again you can just buy wards and more or less is a support summoner spell
Revive:I don't know why to take this spell in any champion, unless you are trolling or intend to die a lot of times
For start i suggest starting with:
Other options are:
1) Boots of Speed with 3 Health Potion
2)2 Faerie Charm with 3 Health Potion(or 1 Faerie Charm with 4 Health Potion and 2 Mana Potion)
3) Amplifying Tome with 1 Health Potion
Then rush for Chalice of Harmony and Boots of Speed.
After you can complete Athene's Unholy Grail and start the Rabadon's Deathcap with Needlessly Large Rod.
After Rabadon's Deathcap you have a pretty good damage. Now u should should upgrade your boots to Sorcerer's Shoes and then go for Zhonya's Hourglass staring with Needlessly Large Rod or if you have a big problem with some ad opponent go first for Seeker's Armguard.
Now you need some more Magic Penetration so i suggest going for Void Staff(you can also use Abyssal Scepter if you need more Magic Resist, but i don't really suggest it(see below)).
Then finish with Liandry's Torment (you can change this for Archangel's Staff(only if you already have bought for some Tear of the Goddess for some reason) or Morellonomicon(i prefer Liandry's Torment because of his passive)
Now let's talk more for each item:
Core item's(are the items that you must buy each game in my opinion):
1) Athene's Unholy Grail
It is a really good item because it gives you a lot of mana regen with its [UNIQUE Passive - Mana Font: Increases Mana Regen by 1% for every 1% of missing Mana]. to help you poke your enemy or get some mana to escape and gives you some Magic resist so that the enemy AP carry don't burst you down in a second.
2) Rabadon's Deathcap
In my opinion is a must item for each Ap carry. It gives you a lot Ability Power. Also its UNIQUE Passive: Increases Ability Power by 30%.That mean a huge Ability Power boost
3) Zhonya's Hourglass
This item is the third item in Lux core because of its UNIQUE Active - Stasis: Champion becomes invulnerable and untargetable for 2.5 seconds, but is unable to move, attack, cast spells, or use items during this time (90 second cooldown ).I think is really important because Lux is really weak if someone come close to her an that active can save your life.It also gives a lot Ability Power and armor.
Good items on Lux:
1) Void Staff
It is a simple item that gives some good magic penetration that you need in Lux (and in every other Ap carry) and some more ap.You should always take some magic penetration so you can replace it with Abyssal Scepter(but i prefer void staff).
2) Liandry's Torment
This item gives you some health ,a little more ap and some more magic penetration, but what makes that item good is its UNIQUE Passive. That means it can kill the opponent that left with 50-100 hp,do some damage to the high hp targets , and it works good with Lux [Q] and [E] because they are root and slow
This item gives you a nice amount of ap,it also gives some good Cooldown Reduction. It also have a nice UNIQUE Passive that reduces healing and regeneration rates by 50% for 4 seconds that mean it destroy Dr. Mundo's annoying Sadism [R] or Master Yi Meditate [W] and the opponents ad carry life steal. You can change Liandry's Torment for that
4) Archangel's Staff-Seraph's Embrace
Gives a good amount of AP and also some mana(it giving you more mana for each ability you cast until the cap).It gives also the UNIQUE Passive that gives AP for the more mana you have and also if you max it gives a pretty good shield based on your current mana.I don't like that item on Lux match because it needs some time to max it and also gives AP based on mana and you don't use any other item that gives mana.
5) Abyssal Scepter
It gives a pretty good magic resist and it can be really useful against the opponent AP carry,it also gives some good AP. It also have a pretty good aura-passive that lower the opponents Magic resist on 600 range. The reason i don't really like that item is that the 600 range is pretty small and if you wants your opponent to be in it you are losing your safety
6) SPECIAL ITEM:Mejai's Soulstealer
This a very good item under the right circumstances. In more detail if you having a pretty good game with many kills and no or 1-2 deaths from early game it is a good time to get it and if you want to build it now is a good time. You should build it pretty early or else is pretty useless because you want be able to stack it.Its passive gives 1 stack for assist and 2 for kill and each stack gives 8 AP,IF you max it 20 stacks you get a nice cd reduction. So if you buy it you should play safe don't leave your safe zone and just spamm your opponent from far away or else you would star losing your stacks and then the item it would be useless.
I don't really like/suggest for Lux:
1) Rod of Ages
It is a nice item for the most ap carries because it gives some good ap , mana and health. But it is not really cheap and want 10 minutes to gives its max stats, also health is pretty useless on Lux like i said before
2) Rylai's Crystal Scepter
This item gives some good ap and health and have a nice passive that slows enemies when they are hit by your spell for a lot of ap carries but it doesn't combine with Lux skills at all, that is because Lux abilities are :q=root so slow useless,w shield no attacking spell,e already have a good slow and r your ulty but i don't think you really need to slow enemies with your ulty.
3) Will of the Ancients
This item gives some ap and also have a aura that gives spell vamp and ap.the reasons i don't like this item are simple:first if someone in your team going to by that item for the aura is your support or the other ap champ, second you don't really need spell vamp because you should just not take damage at all.
4) Deathfire Grasp
This item gives a good ap and some small cd redustion.this item main benefit is its passive Deals 15% of target champion's maximum Health in Magic Damage then amplifies all magic damage they take by 20% for 4 seconds. So it easy to understand that this is a good item for bursting a single opponent, but your role us Lux is to kill/do massive damage to the most of the opponent and the enemy high value and probably low hp targets(ap/ad carry). Also its range is pretty small. So not really good for Lux
5) Lich Bane
This item gives some ap ,mana and movement speed ,but the most common reason to buy this item is its passive [After using an ability, your next basic attack deals bonus magic damage]. This passive combine really well with your passive but like a said a million times already you should just not go to auto attack range because it is not safe
Boots Upgrade and Boots enchant
Here i don't this you have much choices:
||Sorcerer's Shoes are the boots that i strongly suggest on Lux and almost every other ap carry.because it gives you some good magic Penetration to start with and deall some more damage
Ionian Boots of Lucidity are boots mostly used by support. In Lux they are pretty useless even that you need cd reduction on start but you cover with your items and you should already hit the cap.
