Introduction

The purpose of this guide is to give a basic understanding of how to build and play malphite. Malphite is a bully in lane and a great zoner with the capability of becoming a rock solid tank that provides solid cc and great initiation.

Malphite is also a great tower diver with his ult and q which steals enemy movement speed

Items

I start with a regrowth pendant and a mana potion. With this and my passive it means that I can reach level 6 and harass while never falling below 75 percent health

Then I like to go back and get the philosophers stone and boots. The phil stone helps with lane sustainability and then provides gold per 5 while boots are obvious. I build the boots into merc treads or dodge boots if they lack cc and are mostly physical

I then like to build into sunfire cape and get my heart of gold.

At this point the build is mostly reactionary. You can go force of nature for MR or get Guardians angel if they have less magic damage. Then I go for Randuins and Shurelias for the help in catching up to other team and slowing in team fights. With Malphite I use my Q to catch up with fleeing opponents and allow my team to take them down. These items help that.

Frozen Heart and Thormail can be used to shut down Attack Speed Stacking Champions such as matser Yi and Tryndamere

Runes and Masteries

For runes I like to take magic pen for the q harass at the laning phase. Malphite doesn't need lots of defensive runes early on because of his passive. I take Mana regen Yellows in order to keep up the harrass through the whole laning phase and so that i can always have the mana to ult when needed if a gank happens or if we have a gank opportunity. CDR blues also help to keep up the harass in lane. I take health quints on every champ because it helps to have some extra survivability early on.

Masteries are pretty standard for a tank

Summoner Spells

Flash is really helpful to help with catching enemy champs and for the escape. Ignite helps me get kills in lane and tower dive like a pro with use of my ult, E, Q combo with ignite.

Other Viable spells are clarity which isn't needed thanks to the mana regen runes and phil stone
teleport if you are running a solo lane. Exhaust can lead to a very effective slow when combined with Q however I prefer ignite

Laning

In lane it is important to use your q to harass each time it is up. This allows you to whittle down you lane opponents and eventually get a kill.

As Malphite a solo lane is a rare gift, however you can use this opportunity to shutdown and zone your solo adversary and win the harass battle with your passive and your Q.

Malphite lanes best with any aggressive laner. Xin Zhao, Nocturne, or any agressive Ap champ synergize well with your early harass abilities and eventually your ultimate.

At level 6 you can use your R, E, Q Ignite combo for deadly tower dives or common double kills when the opponents are pushing the lane.

Summary

I hope this guide helps you to dominate with Malphite. I have a lot of fun with him and he is relatively easy to pick up and play. Good Luck!
