introduction

im killermilan, a sliver player on the euw server. i enioy reading guides and decided to make my own guide. im not realy a good player but im going to give you my opinion on champions i enioy, and so hoping to improve you and myself. i read all comments so pls take you time to do that. im not native english so if you find a mistake pls PM me about any spelling/grammar mistakes you find.

the rock.

first champ: Malphite.

i realy like playing malphite because his ult is so satisfying when you hit 4 or 5 people. i played him a lot and im still not getting bored of him. hes my go-to top champion. he's extremely tanky lategame while still dealing respectable dmg since he scales with armor.
like the title says malphite is ugly and dumb but i beleive that he trades power for dumbness and uglyness.

-epic wombo combos
-very good midgame and lategame

CONS:
-weak laning

masteries

0/12/18 is in my opinion the best option. here are the must have masteries for malphite:

Unyielding gives a lot more armor, and thus more tankyness and dmg.
Tough Skin does not do very much, only helps you take less dmg inlane.can be switched to explorer if you want to roam more.
Runic Armor gives 8%bonus to passive Granite Shield.
Insight gives a 15% cdr on summs, a must have for evryone.
Swiftness gives 15%tenacity and slow resist, very good stats on tanks.
Grasp of the Undying deals dmg based on maxhealth. best mastery for any tank. since you build a lot a health, it also deal quite much dmg.

Savagery gives 5 dmg to minions, wich realy helps you farm since you dont have much dmg earlygame.
Secret Stash gives extra sustain in lane, assasin is also viable if you want to deal more dmg.
Meditation solves some of the mana problems malph has early, and lategame.
in a teamfight sangerous game's 5%missing health can make a huge diffrence.

runes

here im going to explain what runes i take on malphite and why.

Greater Mark of Hybrid Penetration greater mark of hybrid penetration:gives a total of 8.1armorpen and 5.58 magicpen. this runes isent optimal so i would suggest taking Greater Mark of macig Penetration wich gives 7.83magicpen, and since you only deal magic damage its better.

Greater Seal of Armor:pretty straightforward. early armor helps a lot vs AA, turretdmg, and ad skills. earlygame most champs dont have lots of AP.

Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist: lategame mr against the enemy midlaner(mostly). can be switched to flatMR if you are vs a ap toplaner.

Greater Quintessence of Armor:same reason as seal of armor.

Skill Sequence

there are 2 skill sequence, one against a meelee matchup and one against most ranged matchups.

use this sequence against most matchups meelee and ranged with sustain. examples are xin,jax,vladimir and gangplank. if you are against a ranged champion just wavevlear with your e and dont try to lose to much cs under turret. ask for jungle ganks at 6 or gank other lanes and hope they will carry.

max q first when the enemy has range but no or low sustain. you can either q and run away or q and proc you grasp of the undying adn then run away. try to outpoke and push them out of lane. once they back try to use evryting, exept ult and summs, to get as much minions under their tower so they lose cs, then back yourself.

summoner spells

on malphite you take pretty standard toplane summonerspells.


Flash is a must have on any champion because it has so many uses. you are probality already tired of hearing that.


Ignite is somewhat of a wierd pick on Malphite, but it can work if you are vs Tryndamere or Teemo. i mostly do ot take it.

Teleport is a very good toplane summonerspell. if you can outpoke/kill/zone your enemy, just use it to tp back to lane if you are going to lose much cs. if you are being zoned however use it to tp+ult gank botlane to get back in the game or make your botlane carry the game.


Exhaust is also a very wierd spell, but it helps against Hecarim or if you get a lot of junglerganks.

Items

core items


Sunfire Cape is a must have item on most toplaners. it gives splitpush capacities, dot to enemy champions and some good tankstats. if you are vs ranged ap i would still suggest taking a Bami's Cinder for the AOE DOT effect before building MR. BUILD THIS FIRST

Dead Man's Plate is a very solid tank item, that still gives some mobility, slow and dmg. BUILD THIS SECOND

Iceborn Gauntlet can also be made second, but only if you are already tank enough to not be killed by your opponents.

tanky items


only build Randuin's Omen if you are not tanky enough in midgameteamfights if the enemy ADC if fed.

Banshee's Veil same reason as Randuin's Omen but then if the enemy APC is fed.

damage items


i love Thornmail. if you want te be a d*ck to the ADC just build this and punish him for even atacking you.

Abyssal Scepter is a great item if you are ahead and want to deal more dmg but still need to watch out for the enemy APC.

boots


you can build all boots on malphite, exept berserker's greaves. but i would reccomens Ninja Tabi, bacause it give armor. Mercury's Treads are great for the tenacity. togheter with the Swiftness mastery it gives 45% tenacity wich is a lot. build Ionian Boots of Lucidity if you want to ult a lot. Sorcerer's Shoes are geat in combination with Sunfire Cape if you are confident you can win your lane. if the enemy is to fast or has a lot of slows grab Boots of Swiftness to catch them. and if you are getting zoned in your lane take Boots of Mobility to roam a lot to other lanes and help them snowball.



for boots enchantment i would reccomend enchantment captain since you are always going in first. enchantment alacrity is also a good option. realy depends on taste.

laningfase

like i said before there are 3 diffrent ways to play your lane.


first matchup: vs meelee and maxing e. you DONT want any extended trades, max length is 3 to 4 seconds. once you have used your abilities you run away. your e slows thei atackspeed by a lot so you wont take much dmg, and if you q them before running away you slow them and speed up yourself.

second matchup: against range with sustain and maxing e. waveclearing is very important here, because if they get you under turret you are going to lose a lot of cs since you dont have much ad. so waveclear right in front of your tower and save tp for ganking bot(tel them to have a deep ward ready to tp to).

third matchup: against ranged with no er low sustain and maxing q. your q deal quite much dmg, but dont use it to often while it is still lv 1 or 2 casue it realy uses much mana. save mana for poke when your q is LV3. just q them whenever they get in range en then run away, or AA them with your Grasp of the Undying .

midgame

the midgame is where you shine. you have enough damage to solokill the enemy adc, witout them killing you. in the midgame you need to roam, do tp ganks and try to make a good global presure. you aslo exel at midgameteamfights with your ult Unstoppable Force. try to hit as much people as possible but make sure your team can follow up, or roam bot if you notice the support is roaming and kill the adc.

lategame

in the lategame you should look out for a good ult on the ADC or APC and then your team can folowup and kill them. if you can get a 5man ultimate even better. or you can presure the enemy so your jungler can splitpush, bacause the enemy would want to keep a 4v5 teamfight if you engage and if they send someone after your jungler ult the remaining 4 enemy's and kill them.
