Looks good, going to try this. I question your runes though, if you want to be a tank then GG of Force seems silly over GG of Warding or Shielding. Only 27 AP is useless. I'm going with Warding. Also going with GS of Clarity over Replenishment (better after lvl 6/7) and GQ of Swiftness (hate being slow).
With my glyphs of Warding I may be able to, in some matches, get Sorc shoes over Mercs to help with the magic pen the marks and masteries give. Or since there's more MR over armor in the final build I might get Ninja Tabi over Mercs for the armor. Only if they dont have much cc of course.
Also using Ghost and Flash, to better initiate/escape. There should be enough mana/5 to spam, more so as the game goes on (lvl 6+), to not need clarity.
I'll be back to probably +1 this. I dont feel tanky enough with other builds.
Im going to edit the build as soon as possible because i have changed it a little bit and i want to add some videos. Now i use Magic resist glyphs and i do my Masteries 0/21/9.
Ghost and Flash is very good to initiate/escape but maokai's spells need a lot of mana.so if u dont have the blue buff you need clarity.I think its the best way.

The build works really good! At the beginning i was sceptic, but with this build Mao is really nearly unstoppable and a great initiator... And its funny to see how the enemys escape when you come, because they know, that they cant really hurt you :D

Now as I think of it, it's really nice to go 9/21/0 and go clarity... What I do is I go 0/9/21 with something like flash/exhaust. Then again, I'll try your variation :)
