Ignite

Introduction

Alpha Strike
-Alpha Strike is your best friend for farming, harassing, and chasing. Always start with AS. Alpha Strike is used to "jump" to the enemy you target, while also targeting 3-4 other targets nearby. It also comes with a chance to instantly kill minions, so level this up as quickly as possible for farming.
-You also land where the target you attack ends up. If you are chasing, use AS to land next to the enemy, making for an easy kill. Be careful attacking moving enemies, because you land where they stop, meaning that you may end up extending into turrets.
-Whenever you want to do damage to an enemy without getting close, use AS on a minion near the champion and hope that it hits the champion as well.
-This move isn't overly powerful, so don't get cocky and use AS and expect to win a 1v3. Be smart. It's best used at the beginning of the game, doing small damage over time, letting you jump up to deal a final blow. Be sure to combine this with ignite for early game slaughters.
-You can go through walls, bushes, trees, etc. Use it to sneak up on enemies who think they are safe.

Meditate
-Not much to it, but Meditate heals you. While healing, you also gain a huge armor and magic resistance boost. That way, you won't have any problem surviving daring turret dives. Level this up second fastest after Alpha Strike, so you won't have to recall for health.

Wuju Style
-Wuju Style gives you free attack damage. Buy this at level two, because the first level gives you 15 damage. Press E, and the Wuju bonus will double for a short period of time. Use this to quickly kill enemies, turrets, or inhibitors. Be mindful that the Wuju bonus will be zero after the effect wears off until the cooldown ends.

Highlander
-It gives you a serious movement and attack speed increase. If you're ballsy, use this for chases. Combine it with Wuju Style for some of the quickest kills you'll ever get.
-It also allows you to escape. You will move way faster than anyone else and you're immune to slows. You aren't immune to stuns, however.
-The increased attack speed makes it perfect for quickly destroying towers. Once again, combine this with Wuju Style.

-Escapability, chase, and stealth.
-Perfect for ganking.
-You can heal!
-Easy farming

Cons
-Susceptible to serious targeting.
-Health, armor, resistance, and AP aren't focused on, but they aren't as important.

Runes

Desolation - Armor penetration is key for long games. It will make sure that no matter how much money the other team spends on armor, you will still be able to kill anyone at any time.

Evasion - Nine of these gives you a pretty decent dodge chance. You never know what you'll dodge, and this may just save you sometime.

Alacrity - It's a small boost, but attack speed is one of the most important skills to build with Yi. It means the difference between getting a kill or an assist, and certainly helps you farm.

Why NOT to focus on Wuju Style early.

I know, it sounds crazy.

I always make it level 1 after I get to level 2. It gives you 15 attack damage right away, which will help you farm and get first blood.

The reason I focus on Meditation instead of Wuju Style is for turret destructions. It's important to push the outer turrets early to win games. When you upgrade your heal, you can go in, kill a turret, heal, then run to your teammates in the middle to gank without having to recall. The reason this works is because you going by yourself to blow up a turret attracts a lot of attention, so you can get in, kill it, get out, heal and gank in less than a minute.

Yes Wuju Style is good, but you only gain 5 extra attack damage per upgrade. That's almost nothing, whereas you gain 180 healing every upgrade for meditation, not to mention the increased defense while healing.

Items

The Beginning
-Always take boots of speed. Speed is your best friend as Yi early in the game.
-I use two health and one mana potion early. Try to parcel them so you don't need to go back early.

First Recall/Death (Hopefully Recall)
-Don't recall until you have 1325 gold. You then want to get Catalyst, so you won't have to worry about health or mana for the rest of the game. If you need to go back early, get mana first, then finish the catalyst.

Trip Two
-Try to aim for 1200 gold. Purchase the Zeal, which gives you critical chance, increased movement and attack speeds. It may seem weak, but it will help you uber-farm so you can get more items later.

Trip Three
-It costs 1700 to finish your first Phantom Dancer, basically a much better Zeal. Buy in parts if you need to go back early.

Trip Four
-Build off of your boots and get Boots of Mobility. They are perfect for ganking, because after 5 seconds of no attacks, your speed increases to level 5, on top of the effects of Phantom Dancer and your ultimate.

Trip Five
-By now you should be getting lots of kills and minions. Go back and get your 2nd Zeal/Phantom Dancer whenever possible.

Trip Six
-Just when they thought it couldn't get worse, it's going to get five times as worse. It's time to dominate with life steal. Once you have 1850 gold, go back and get a BF Sword, which is the first part of a Bloodthirster.

Trip Seven
-Time to get Bloodthirster #2. At this point, you can't really die unless their whole team ganks you, so feel free to engage everyone.

Trip Eight
-Upgrade your Catalyst to a Banshee's Veil, which will block one enemy spell every 30 seconds. It will save you from stuns, ultimates, etc.

Overkill
-If you are still playing at this point, you must be getting tired and impatient. Buy another Phantom Dancer and Bloodthirster. You will now have insane attack, speed, crits, life steal, etc. I don't make it this far in the game often, but I usually kill people in about five hits.

Summoner Spells

Ignite is key for chases. You can severely damage squishies, then cast ignite to kill and run away before being attacked by a turret.

Heal is perfect at any time in the game. Yes, you have a healing skill, but if you plan on attacking turrets, you need something to instantly heal you to either continue attacking or heal quickly to escape enemies. It will also keep you alive in the beginning when getting kills is crucial.

Jungling and Ganking

Jungling is fun and easy with Yi, but it's more important to focus on helping your teammates with ganks, defending, and destroying turrets.

The wraiths are just waiting for Yi. You can use Alpha Strike to kill them all in one hit, so head down there every time you are close.

Because of your speed, chase, escape, and attack skills, ganking is easy. If you see an enemy on the map with less than three-fourth of their total HP, coordinate with that lane to quickly go in and get an easy kill. Yi is too fast to avoid. I find it helpful to let the enemy push a bit so that you can easily gank from behind and cut off the escape route.

Final Words and Tips

Yi is a beast, no doubt about it. Here are some quick tips.

-After you get a bloodthirster or two, you can easily kill two (or three) enemies by yourself. If you run low on health and you're outnumbered, use your ultimate so that you can drain life like a less-cheap Fiddlesticks.

-Turrets are there to die. If there is a turret with any damage whatsoever and you're on your own, kill it. Use your ultimate and Wuju to sneak in and blow up that turret, then escape before the enemy team knows what happened.

-Don't initiate team fights with Alpha Strike. Chances are, you'll get stunned and since you landed next to an enemy, you're almost certainly dead.

-Be very careful of MIAs when ganking. Make sure you and your teammates have good communication. Nothing is worse than being ganked while ganking.

-Know your stats. Be smart. Know who you're playing and when is a smart time to attack. Take advantage of your team. Let them initiate and go in to destroy everyone.

-Get fed. You might not have control over this, but if you have a lot of gold, you're going to dominate.

Well that's about it. If you have any comments or questions, just leave me a comment. I'm about to go play as Master Yi, so I'll see you around!
