This is how I play Yi because when I solo queue I usually end up with a bad team and backdooring is the only way to win when your team is down 20 kills

Playstyles differ... i cant spend the entire game backdooring i want to get kills and wreck the opposing team (id probably be better off playing olaf but i never got around to buying him). I like waiting until the cc is used up and running into the back and destroying their carry. thats how i play yi i just charge in kill a person(preferably carry or support) pop ult (if there is another person low kill him aswell) then run away and watch my team finish them. Gets me killed alot of times but if i take the 11/1/5 ashe and the 0/0/35 soraka w/ full mejias down with me im golden.

Personally I don't like items that give you small stat boosts except Triforce. I tried other Yi builds that included things like frozen mallet and didn't like them. I usually back door or 1v1 if possible which makes my "glass cannon" build viable. I'll admit once there is 2 or more strong champs you will go down pretty fast but you shouldn't be trying to fight more than one person by yourself. If you watch the map you should know when you can push and when you can't. If you watch the other team and are cautious survivability won't matter because you'll never be in a situation where you will need it. This isn't always possible and is not easy to do, but if you get used to watching and predicting you enemy's movements you should do well.

One advantage to double bloodthrister is it would compleatly counter act if the enemy team all got thornmail... have you thought about phage/frozen mallet/ tri-force... it would give you a slow for some needed utility as well some health making you less of a glass cannon (in higher elo glass cannon = dead) triforce really gives yi alittle of everything he needs move speed, crit, health, mana, attack speed, AD, and a little Ap, plus awesome passives. all things yi can use.

I like the lifesteal that you get from the double bloodthirsters and I mentioned in items 5+6 getting a Infinity Edge because of the increased crit

You have 60 crit strike wouldnt an infinity edge be better than a second blood thrister? it will allow you to hit even harder.
