So, Ever since Sona came to us, I have been playing her as a support. When I saw this skin I felt that she was too good to just support like this so I decided to think of something else to do with her. After analyzing her more I was like: "LICH BANE.. + SONA HEAL/SPEED UP/QQQ = LOTS of Damage." This lead to this guide after in ranked and normal ques i dominated every lane excluding 1 champ. (Kennen).
As far as items go the thing you want to always rush is Lich Bane. As the main source of her damage excluding 3rd Q + auto attack, This item makes her burst any champion down almost instantly.
Situation Items would be:
If you find your Lane winning more so Get Kages Lucky Pick after Blasting Wand.
For Those of you that like going tanky AP and are doing well enough early game can rush Rod of Ages.

When you are first in ranked and say "I am going mid with Sona," People will get irritated and say you are trolling. Then when they surrender at 20 and you are 17-3-17 (Actual score on last ranked with her). Then you have your opponents saying their mid sucked and your teammates are like "Thank you for showing me how OP Sona is". The Thing that makes Sona do so well in ranked is her ability to burst down any squishy (ADC, AP MID) almost instantly and get out of the team-fight before they can focus you. Even if they do focus you the ADC will kill them all. The thing that makes Supports as good as they are, is there utility. When you are putting 2 supports in the same game and having one play the support role while the other is bursty takes 2 potential Utilities and adding those to a team. Example. Sona heal with soraka heal = healthy team fights. Taric Stun, then ults. You Ult, basic attack kill their ADC in one combo while the ADC bursts down the other opponents. Most usual AP mids just boast with high damage (Diana, Ahri, Malz) while their utility is helpful for solo kills. Supports abilities are for team kills which win games.

Power Chord
After casting 3 basic spells, her next auto attack will do additional magic damage. Sona's Power Chord's magic damage scales linearly based on Sona's level. Having levels and magic penetration is the only way to increase Power Chord's damage. Sona's autoattack will also have an additional effect based on what her last used spell was.
= Staccato
Staccato's double damage is very good for dealing that big damage to your mid lane opponent during ganks for the kill or to outzone them into staying back at their turret.
= Diminuendo
This is amazing for those AP mids that like to jump on you to take advantage of your squishiness like Akali and Katarina. You auto attack when they jump on you and burst them down while they are doing little damage to you.
= Tempo
The 40% slow effect is useful all game to slow enemy champions. Also when you are chasing an almost dead opponent to their turret this allows time for your short cooldown on your Q to finish so you can finish them off.
