Introduction

Good day, my name is Minimildew and I shall be teaching you how to successfully play one of the best champions in one of the best possible positions for her. This is my first attempt at writing a guide, so bear with me please. Also, most of the needed information is located up there^ in the cheat sheet, so look at it if you simply want a quick overview of my build/guide.

Runes

I always use 9 greater mark of desolation, 9 Greater Seal of Armor, 9 Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist, and 9 greater quintessence of desolation. This allows me to have the greatest resistance to basic attacks early game, and have higher magic resist later on to take less damage from spells.

Masteries

For masteries, I follow a 21-0-9 build, as I think my riven is already tanky enough once she gets her full item build ^_^

Items

All of my items except for Black Cleaver should be set in stone. Honestly, I'm not exactly sure as what to get for a 6th item, as the game usually does not go on that long. However, if the game does go that far, I usually end up with something like a Youmuu's Ghostblade as my 6th item. Also, if you have the gold for it, replace your wriggles with another Bloodthirster. This will drive your sustainability through the roof during teamfights.

Skill explanation

First off, I put one point in all of my abilities, as with them I can make the most use of my passive. Then, I put more points into Broken Wings, which increases the damage of one of the most damaging abilities in the game. After that, I put some points into Valor to make my harassing more effective, as well as completely reducing counter-harass to 0. Next, I raise Ki Burst, as its damage is starting to fall behind.

Ganking/Jungling

Start out, obviously, with a cloth armor and 5 health potions. Have mid leash blue buff for you, then proceed to wolves, then wraiths, then lizard, then golems. If bot (or if you're purple, top) has some overextended, low health champions, run in and gank. If not, recall an buy a longsword and 2 health potions, and either cover a lane so the laner can recall, or you can gank a lane. If you run out of options, simply clear wolves, then wraiths, then golems. At about 7 minutes in, your blue golems should respawn. Do a full clear of the jungle, and now set out to gank, as you have acquired your most powerful tool with which to gank; Blade of the Exile. When ganking, charge in with Valor, and cover some ground with the first 2 slashes of Broken Wings. When you get close enough, use your final charge of Broken Wings, followed by a basic attack, then a Ki Strike. If the enemy isn't dead by then, chase with Valor and Broken Wings.

Tips + Tricks

  • At higher levels, Valor can completely negate a turret shot. Use this wisely.
  • When playing ranked, and every second counts, use Valor and Broken Wings in between minion camps to cover the distance, and build up stacks of your passive.
  • Valor in, Ki Burst, and then escape with Broken Wings for a quick, effective harass.
  • With max cooldown reduction, Blade of the Exile has a cooldown time of about 30 seconds. don't be afraid to blow it just to take out a turret.
  • Keep in mind that while Blade of the Exile is active, your basic attacks have a much longer range.

Summary

Riven is an awesome jungler, and is one of my favorite champions. I recommend her to all of you reading this guide, and I hope that riven jungling shall one day be very popular. Thanks for reading my guide!

Also, criticism is welcome, open insults are not. Have fun going 20/0 every other game!
