Introduction

My very first guide. Hope you like it. :D

Mordekaiser is by far, my favorite champion. Some say that after his nerf, morde died. But I haven't played long enough to say whether or not this is true. All I need to say is that MORDEKAISER ES NUMERO UNO. His shield makes him incredibly tanky even without health items. There is a wide variety of builds I have seen, although many build morde as a tank. But this is the build I found to be the best. I do provide him with several health items, however these are not essential. With the large amount of AP given and spell vamp, this morde can burst down enemy champions with ease, and because all his basic skills deal damage to multiple targets, he can jump into 1v3 situations and come out on top.

Note: As I was making this guide, I noticed the AP at lvl 18 was off. REALLY OFF. The real AP provided with this build is around 530.

Runes

The runes I have chosen give morde a great early game boost. With the AP and magic pen from his runes, you can easily hit 75 damage with your E at lvl 1. But to compensate for the lack of tanky runes, I take health regen seals. 4.3 health per 5 along with masteries and a dorans shield gives you all the lane sustainability you need.

Masteries

Seeing as this is an AP morde build, I take 21 in offense and put the rest in defense. If you dont like what I take in defense, feel free to change it however you want, but keep resolve (the bonus heal is well worth the point). Taking veterans scars is also a great choice. With the points in offense, I get an amazing power boost at lvl 1.

Items

I first take a dorans shield because it is perhaps the best starting item for morde. Because his skills use health, the shield helps him spam his skills early game without worry.
My next main item is sorcerers boots. It gives magic pen. No explanation necessary.
After that, I take will of the ancients. The AP and spell vamp really help you deal out lots of damage while healing yourself in the process. Even when you're low, you can walk up to a wave of minions, hit your E, and return hundreds of health.
Then I get Ryleis. It gives both health and AP. Great. But seeing how morde lacks a cc skill, the passive on this item makes up for this drawback.
Next I grab a deathfire. Now because of the varus patch, the whole WTF MANA REGEN? **** is gone, so lets get to the good part. First, it gives AP, and even more than before. It also gives 15% cdr, which helps morde spam a little more. Finally, the active ability is the best ability to use along with morde's ult. The percent damage will be too much for any champion to handle (except magic resist tanks...) With a full build, the active can dish out over 45% of an enemy's total health as damage (not counting resists).
The last offensive item i get is a deathcap. The one item all mages need.
The final item is a warmogs. Sell your shield to make space for it. Warmogs are only for sustainability, so if you find you dont need all that health, I would suggest either abyssal scepter (to counter magic resist), zhonias hourglass (to counter a dps), or maybe a hextech gunblade (for the bonus AP, AD, and spell vamp).
If you are being destroyed by a dps, you can get thornmail instead of warmogs, or a FON if they're dealing too much magic damage.
Other great items on morde include: sunfire or randuins for tankyness, and lichbane or void staff for more damage.
If you find you need one item over the other, feel free to switch up the order of items. The only items I suggest you rush are sorecerers shoes and will of the ancients.

Summoner Spells

Why heal and ignite you ask?
Simple.
Heal is really useful early game if you get low, because the starting item I suggest leaves no room for potions. Also, it works great when you are trying to lure. Get low, then when they come in for the kill, heal, ult and burst them to kingdom come. :D
As for ignite, it is the must need spell for morde players. Using it along with your ult almost guarantees a kill.
If u really want to, you can play with flash ignite instead of heal ignite (if ur afraid of dying in ganks). It works ok, but you dont have that extra bonus during 1 v 1's.

Skill Sequence

Some may say "Max your Q first".
Some may say "Max you E first".
But I find that alternating between your E and W is the optimum skill sequence there is.
Assuming you are solo laning top, you need your harass to be strong enough to discourage all attackers. And if they do get close, Your W will be dealing so much sustained damage, that they will run. Also, these are his best farming skills. Use them as often as you want.

Techniques

With morde, you want to start playing agressively at lvl 4, when your E has 2 points in it (but dont forget to harass at level 1: ur E is still very strong). By forcing your opponents off the minions and preventing their exp gain, you will hold the upper hand in lane. You want to stay in lane for as long as possible without going B. Stay in lane and level up as much as possible before going back. However, seeing that this build prevides no form of escape (namely flash), remember to get wards after ur first trip back, or you will be ganked which will most likely lead to a death, or a double kill if ur good. To keep yourself alive, hang back at 1/3 health and wait for it to regen. Use your summoner heal every time it you fall below half health if your opponent isn't playing too aggressively. If your opponents are being agressive, save your heal to lure them into a successful kill. If you are being pushed off your minions, place your w on any melee minion and hopefully, it will get you minion kills and damage your opponents if they get too close. As I stated in the section above, you want to freely use your skills as both harass and for minion kills. When engaging, you want to lead in with your E, followed by placing your W upon yourself. when they get into attacking range, hit them with your Q. By now, your shield should be fully charged. Continue to auto attack them (or use skills whenever they appear) until they reach 1/3 health, or when you are close to death. Ult them for the lifesteal and damage, and when they run, ignite them and hit them with another E. With the cdr from the deathfire (and shurelyas if you get them) you should be able to fire off your skills every 3-4 seconds.

Your Ult

As you should know, mordekaisers ult deals percent damage. With a full build, it can do 55% (excluding magic resist). All of the damage dealt with ur ult is transferred back as health. Also, if the ulted opponent dies while ur ult is still active (10 seconds), you take their soul. Now wut some people dont know is that a portion of your stats are transferred to the soul, and a portion of the souls stats are given to you as well. as such, a good soul can completely change the tide of battle. you generally want to ult the emenys ad carry, but ulting the ap carry isnt bad either. The extra ap given to you from the soul can boost your damage output a lot for as long as you survive the fight.

Farming

Dont be afraid to spam skills when faced off against a minions wave. With the full build, you can instantly kill almost all minions with just your E, and the spell vamp keeps your health up. Mordekaiser is in my opinion, the best farmer in the game, so to bring out your full potential, focus on farming until lvl 11. You should be able to have a CS of at least 60 by 10 minutes in, even if you are a terrible last hitter. And to prevent any competition with your teammates, I suggest you take a solo top if your team has a jungler. The faster you can make money and the faster you can get stronger, the greater your influence upon the game. Almost every item I listed is rather expensive (3 items costing over 3000 gold, 2 other costing over 2000), so stay focused on farming until you have everything but the deathcap and warmogs.
