i recommend Ghost or flash along with ignite, as ignite works incredibly well in sinc with your ult, and Morde has no natural escape or chasing ability. No sane Morde player will not take ignite. It is a MUST HAVE. Your ulti+ignite=lols.
Mace of Spades - On next hit, Mordekaiser swings his mace with such force that it echoes out, striking up to 3 additional nearby targets, dealing damage plus bonus damage. If the target is alone, the bonus damage is doubled.

This spell is incredibly important for farming early game so you want 1 point in it at lvl 2. It can also help you harass the other teams champions in your lane if it bounces to them.
Creeping Death- Unleashes a protective cloud of metal shards to surround an ally, increasing their armor and magic resistance and dealing damage per second to enemies in the cloud.

This spell is mainly just to keep your shields up by hitting minions around you.
Siphon of Destruction- Mordekaiser deals damage to enemies in a cone in front of him. For each unit hit, Mordekaiser's shield absorbs energy.
Mordekaiser damages enemies in a cone in front of him, dealing 65/110/155/200/245 (+0.4) magic damage.
For each unit hit, Mordekaiser's shield absorbs an additional 6/9/12/15/18 health.
Costs 24/36/48/60/72 Health
This spell is your bread and butter it does the most damage of all of your abilities has a short CD and gives you more shields then your other abilities, as it hits in a cone and gives you a bonus for each unit hit.
Children of the Grave- Mordekaiser curses an enemy, stealing a percent of their life each second. If the target dies while the spell is active, their soul is enslaved and will follow Mordekaiser for 30 seconds.
Curses an enemy champion for 8 seconds, stealing 3/3.5/4% life per second, plus an additional 0.1% per 50 AP.
If the target dies while under the effect of the curse, their soul is enslaved and will follow Mordekaiser for 30 seconds. During this time, Mordekaiser gains 25% of their ability power, and attack damage. The spirit gains 65/75/85% + (+%) of Mordekaiser's adjusted damage, ability power, and 50% + (+%) of Mordekaiser's health.
Pets can be controlled by holding the alt key and using the right mouse button.
Your Ultimate, this spell is incredibly useful if you have harassed your laning opponent(s) enough you can tower jump a half life opponent at lvl 6 with ignite+your ult+Siphon of Destruction.
Iron Man- 25% of the damage dealt from abilities is converted into a temporary shield, absorbing incoming damage.
Possibly the most useful passive in the game, your shields allow you to absorb most early game harassment often the person(s) you are laning against will waste their mana by trying to harass you and having the abilities bounce off your shields.
Mordekaiser is an incredibly durable champion due to his passive. In a group Fight your shields will give you anywhere from 1200-3600 extra health depending on how long the fight is. I recommend getting lizard buff whenever you can for the slow and DOT.
As I stated earlier Mordekaiser is very durable. I recommend going mid as you can easily shut down most carries due to your shields. Start with either a regrowth pendant or a Rejuvination bead+6 health pots depending on who is most likely to be in your lane. If you are doing a 1v2 solo lane or are fighting heimer in mid or another very difficult lane start with the rejuv+6 health Pots, if it is likely an easier lane start with the Regrowth pendant. In lane play fairly passivly until level 2 when you get Mace of Spades, as you cant get your shields all the way up until then. When you hit level 4-5 start harassing with Siphon of Destruction and Mace of Spades (by hitting a minion near the enemy champion), so that, when you hit 6,
you can Drop your Ignite+ult combo+flash/ghost+siphon of destruction to pick up an easy kill. Make sure you know what summoner spells they have as a heal or exhaust+ghost/flash can make it hard to kill them. Make sure you are at full shields when you attempt this as you will likely be hit by the tower a few times.
Ganks are starting to happen and people are not staying in lane. If you haven't gotten the tower in your lane down continue to push until it is. Usually it will be one of the first to go down if you know what you are doing. Once you get the tower down help other lanes push. If they try to gank you run and use Siphon of destruction to hurt them as they pursue you. In group Fights make sure you are in the middle of the fighting hitting as many champions as you can with your abilities. Use your Ult+ignite combo on the target your team is focusing so that you can get the ghost.
By now you should have a decent number of kills and have Warmogs, Spirit visage, and Force of nature. Group fights are the same as with Mid Game.
My build along with other recommended items is:
regrowth pendant OR rejuv bead+6 health pots
Boots of speed-> merc treads, Tabi, or swiftness depending on team comp.
regrowth pendant > giants belt > Ruby -> Warmogs Armor
2 Regrowth pendants > Negatron Cloak -> Force of Nature
Frozen Mallet or Thornmail (starting with most expensive piece)
Swap Spirit Visage for Randuin's Omen/Frozen mallet
Team comp is the basis on whether or not you get thornmail. If the Physical DPS on the other team are most of the damage get it. If not get Frozen Mallet.
Questions you may have.
Most of you are probably thinking, "why not get Warmogs first, and why dont you have any DPS items?" The reason why is because after a very large number of games with Morde I have found that Health Regen > health in the early game and you can still get warmogs fully stacked by late game. You also have very high natural damage and dont really need the damage items. I often get Force of nature right after boots instead of Spirit visage then get omen later and skip Spirit visage. Warmogs is not needed in the early game and is too expensive to rush.
I have fought plenty of other Mordekaiser's and have not lost to any of them using this build. One person gave me a friend inv right after he lost to my team saying gg morde is too ownage.
Examples of scores i have gone with this build are: 25/13/19(after being ganked multiple times early on), 14/3/8, and 17/9/9. All of these examples are from ranked games.
