Welcome my dear friends! This is a guide for the greatest madman of all time, the most deadly massmurder in Zaun and one of my favorite junglers. Yeap. Your right. It's Dr. Mundo!

Dr. Mundo is one of the most fun junglers i have ever played. He can build tanky as F U C K and still dish out TONS OF DAMAGE! He can be even deadlier if he builds some damage too, and all in all, he is one of strongest junglers out there. He got a very fast clearing speed, extremely potent lvl 2 ganks, strong sustain after 6, and tanks the teamfights like a boss.

This guide is a resource for all you people who plays Dr. Mundo on a decent plan, or are new to him. This will teach you ALL (and more...) you will ever need to know about jungling as Dr. Mundo.

Mundo has 3 Unique spells togheter with his Maximum Dosage. Each are very strong, and with my 2 builds (Explained below), i will show you the good and bad sides of maxing each, and when to use what.

What do you need to play Dr. Mundo?

  • Dr. Mundo (1350 IP)
  • You need to hit with skillshots (Just practice, you'll get this ;))
  • You need to know how to tank (If you aren't playing build 2)
  • You need to know the basics of jungling.
  • You need to manage your health bar.
  • You need to understand Dr. Mundo's way of thinking.
  • You need to scream "MUNDO!" everytime you go for war!

    Mundo is a champion that is extremely easy to play, but as all easy to play champions, they are harder to master properly. You will get the feeling of playing Dr. Mundo very early, and the killer mind will burn in your head, as you search for victims to gank and decimate with your giant infected cleaver!

Burning With Agony!
This build is focused around jungling very fast, and having strong ganks just like the other. We lvl up Heart Zapper because of the insane jungle speed, CC reduction for ganks, and DPS. The build is aimed at getting as tanky as possible, because Dr. Mundo doesn't really need so much damage to take down squishies. If you build damage on him, he will do TONS OF DAMAGE, look below if you are interested.


Mundo get damage, more damage, MORE DAMAGE!
This is the build that im finding myself using alot lately. This isn't a traditional tank Dr. Mundo build. It's an offtank/DPS build. It's centered around the absurd earlygame damage of Blunt Force Trauma (+70 AD for 5 seconds when you are lvl 5!). Also, this build isn't completely as tanky as the other. Because of his damage early game, we invest in some tanky items ( Frozen Mallet, Randuin's Omen) and some DPS too. While we now are tanky, lategame we invest in damage, to make us a completely Dr. Mundo hypercarry of D O O M ! Be sure to have a tank on your team, or atleast no tanks on enemy team.

Pros Explanation


  • + Very Fast Clearing speed: Dr. Mundos clearing speed is on par with Shyvana and Phoenix Udyr, with his AoE and AD steroid.
  • + Lethal lvl 2 ganks: He can gank any lane straight after red, with
    a 40% low CD slow, red buff to slow with autoattacks and sustained AoE damage. Not advised to leave Heart Zapper on too long when ganking.
  • + Super Tanky: Dr. Mundo naturally deals hugeloads of damage, and thus he can build very tanky without losing dps. Also, HP boosts his Maximum Dosage.
  • + Ultimate healing him for up to 60% of his max HP: His Maximum Dosage is healing for a great amount of health, which is not a set amount but % of his max hp, so he benefits of bonus HP.
  • + Absurd damage for a tank: +100 AD and 25% of current health, that's definitely alot more than normal tanks. Galio with full tank like mundo? Dr. Mundo > Galio. Amumu full tank? Dr. Mundo > Amumu. Dr. Mundo > Leona... And i can count on...
  • + He goes where he pleases!: Noone shall stop Dr. Mundo from doing what he does, BECAUSE HE SAYS SO!


    Cons Explanation

    • - Bad initiation (No gap closers): As tank, he need to initiate. This can be done with Maximum Dosage speed, but just a stun/slow will make him unable to get into the fight and tank.
    • - Prone to CC : As above, a single stun/slow will disable him. Even if he hits an Ashe with cleaver, he will be slowed for too long, and unable to reach her. Stuns/Snares are even worse.
    • - Health Potion reliant in early jungle to have HP to gank: He uses quite alot of HP with Heart Zapper and damage from jungle creeps, he will sometimes find himself with under half HP (Pre Heart of Gold) and he needs potions to jungle alot early.
    • - Only one CC, blocked by minions: Not really much CC in Dr. Mundo, only one slow, which is nothing compared to Alistars AoE knockup or Curse of the Sad Mummy / Solar Flare.
    • - His Maximum Dosage can be negated alot by Ignite: Ignite effects will reduce his healing from 40/50/60% of max HP, to 20/25/30% of max HP.

Magnificent Masteries

Mastery Explanations



This is the setup for Cleaver Dr. Mundo. It focuses around getting the vital Mpen in offense tree, and getting enough defensive stats in Defensive tree to tank properly. With this, you will be über tanky, and still kill like a boss. DECIMATION!


Offense Tree
  • As for this, we need to get some raw damage. Take 3 points in Brute Force , 2 points in Butcher for jungling and one point in Summoner's Wrath to get some armor/mr reduction with exhaust.

  • Take 2 points in Sorcery for the CDR, just to take something. These 2% less CD on ult might save you :)

  • And finally, why we are here. Your Infected Bonesaw does magic damage, and 10% Mpen is great for damage. Togheter with Greater Mark of Magic Penetration you will hit like a truck while having 4k hp!

Defensive Tree
  • We take Hardiness and Resistance for the stats it provides, and Tough Skin for some reduced minion damage.

  • Go for Durability , for increasing jungle potential and overall HP.

  • Bladed Armor for the jungling, and Veteran's Scars for extra durability.

  • Enlightenment for the CDR, you will never know when you need CDR. Also, Initiator , for the MS boost when ganking/initiating (As the name say :P)

  • This one is awesome. 10% tenacity, 3% more health! If you have 4k endgame (maybe?) you will get 120 HP for ONE POINT!

Smite is an absolutely must on any jungler. With a strong leash, Dr. Mundo can take red without Smite. But when Twitch then decides to smitesteal it, you will regret. Don't. Ever. Jungle. Without. Smite. Not even on Shaco or Warwick. Remember, always smite to finish. When you are fighting to get baron, your team trusts you, they expect you Smite it! Then DO IT!

Exhaust

Exhaust is supporting Dr. Mundo in many ways. It's giving him a slow for ganks (Which is needed alot if the opponent dodges cleavers alot), an AD-Carry-shutdown-in-a-button and providing decreased resistances for targets. Overall, this is a very strong spell to pick. I would only leave this for something else if your support got Exhaust and you somehow need something else. Rarely take anything else.

This spell is great on Dr. Mundo, not only does he get movement speed boost from his ultimate, now also from ghost! His ganking will be unescapeable (If he got red) and no1 will ever stop the massive mutant train wheter he is escapin' or chasin'.

Flash is the most OP spell in the game hands down... But not on Dr. Mundo. Mundo needs something else... He needs a gap closer yes... But with the nerfed flash, it's not the greatest :P He needs CC, and he needs speed to chase. Flash is pointless, he can't flash in like Annie and instakill someone, he needs sustained damage, by slow or his own speed. Also, Dr. Mundo doesn't escape. He always live, cause he is Mundo. As tank, sacrifice is normal. If your team get a 4 - 1 and you are the 1, you done your job well, GG!

Just imagine this. This and Maximum Dosage and only ignite will kill you. And wait! You have nearly 4k HP! So we give a F U C K! Still, this isn't recommended, as said, you need CC and speed.

Dr. Mundo's Murderous Skills - Adrenaline Rush & Sadism

This is Dr. Mundos passive ability, and i would say, it's not the best, but it's definitely not the worst. This gives him 0.3% of his max hp as health regen. So, let's say you have 4k hp. Which means you get 12 health every second :P Togheter with Force of Nature, you get 0.65% of you max HP every second. Not bad huh?

Tips and Tricks

  • Buying health is making the passive more effective. Abuse it!
  • Not much to say... It gives health regen :)

This is well, an upgraded Goes Where He Pleases. This will give you an insane movespeed boost, aswell as you regen a great amount of your HP. It has a low CD, so don't be afraid to use it to sustain in the jungle. You can use this in 1v1, save for when you are below half HP to bait enemies into a longer fight. If you gank, use it when initiating so no enemies will escape you.

Tips and Tricks
  • Using this before you pass a brush where the enemy may have warded, will make you pass it faster, and the enemy will have less time to react.
  • Don't rely on this to save you. Smart enemies will ignite you.
  • The cooldown is low. SPAM IT!
  • Don't be afraid to towerdive. This will regen you health fast, and even in lvls 7 or around, if they are low, you and your mates will be able to finish them before tower kills you.

Dr. Mundo's Murderous Skills - Infected Cleaver

This is maybe one of the most core parts of Dr. Mundo. He throws his cleaver in the chosen direction, and the first enemy it hits is damaged for the higher value between a % of their current health or flat damage. It also slows them by 40%. This is Dr. Mundos only CC ability. It is a strong ganking tool, and escape. It uses your health, and the health cost increases by lvl.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use this in ganks, and SPAM it! When you hit with the first one, the others are much easier to chain.
  • Use it for escapes if needed. It has low CD.
  • Keep in mind that it's not like Hungering Strike, the % damage apply to baron and dragon aswell (They have magic resist, so not full damage).
  • Lead your opponent. Don't throw it where they are NOW. Throw it where they will be when the cleaver reaches them. See more below.
  • Don't use it so much when jungling early game, the health costs kills you, and the damage isn't pleasing.


Leading / Countering jukers

Leading is a technique used when trying to hit someone that runs. I see quite a lot of newer players (Or just less skilled players) throwing their cleaver where the running enemy IS. Not where he will be. In other words, you must lead your opponent into the cleaver.
Here is an example of leading. Kog'Maw is running towards blue, and judging from his speed and my cleaver speed, i throw the cleaver in a direction so it hits him, meaning that he runs directly into it. This is leading in it's most simple form.

Leading blindly is another technique. If you see someone running around a corner, so they are behind a wall, you can predict where they will be and throw at them. Once i played Talon i did that, like 5 seconds after the enemy ran into fog of war, and jesus he was mad, he called me hacker and all dat stuff :P Blind Leading takes alot of practice, just try, it might hit ;)

Countering Jukers

Jukers are a type of skilled players, that know what leading is. Juking you Q is pretty simple, they do not run straight, they are unpredictable and can sometimes stop in the middle of a run, and run another way. That can happen very often. I myself, have played alot of champions, and got the feeling for when it's good to use skillshots. I've played too much Lee Sin, and thus, i can nearly feel when he will use his Q. And no, im not believing in spirits and healing and supernatural stuff. It's experience.

So how do we counter those pesky jukers? Well, the thing is, confuse them. Every good player expects you to use your cleaver when they run. You shouldn't hestitate. When you gank, run up to them and begin hitting them with Red Buff and Exhaust. Many jukers will be confused, as they see you won't Q, they Flash away. Now, in the moment they flash they are still in panic, su use it to hit with Q. When they are hit once, you will hit again, nearly always.

Dr. Mundo's Murderous Skills - Burning Agony

This spell, is giving Dr. Mundo his spot amongst Udyr and Shyvana in clear time. This AoE deals 35 base damage every second to enemies, and costs 10 health every second. It doesn't have a timer like Burnout, it can be on forever. It's great for clearing camps, and as a bonus, it reduces the duration of slows on you. It's overall a nice, nice spell.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use this always when jungling.
  • When you are chased, turn this on togheter with Maximum Dosage and run like H E L L!
  • Don't keep it on too long, it uses you health quickly! (Lategame when you have 250+ health regen, just turn it on all times).

This spell is an AD steroid, and it's a ridiculous one. 40/55/70/85/100 bonus damage. I N S A N E ! This AD steroid is awesome to deal damage, jungle and lots of other stuff. Keep in mind that in later ranks, you can have it on nearly always, but it costs health. Theres not many things i can tell about it, it just gives you alot of AD ;)

  • Use this when fighting/ganking/jungling.
  • Well, it's an AD steroid. It can be used for pushing too!
  • It still costs health if you use it too much. Manage your health bar!

Mundo's Massive Massmurdering Tools!

This is the start i prefer for Dr. Mundo. Not only does it give us jungle sustain with Health Potion, but it also gives us movement speed for ganking, which is vital to catch up with all the lanes who start like this. Start with this always!

This turtle shell is absolutely amazing item! It gives you a good amount of HP for earlygame, as well as +5 Gold/10 sec! Later we will build this into Randuin's Omen! And you know another great thing? It is C H E A P $ $ $!

These are the boots that you should aim for. I would never get any other boots on Dr. Mundo. Mercury's Treads are the most preferable boots, as they provide us +25 Magic Resist and +35 Tenacity! Togheter with Juggernaut we have 45 Tenacity, and slows will have 75% reduced time with Heart Zapper on !!! I would only take Ninja Tabi if i was against a heavy AD team, with little CC. (Ex. Jax Jungle, Trundle Solotop, Talon Mid, Graves & Leona Bottom)

Tanky Items

This is absolutely great on Dr. Mundo! Not only does it give him over 1k HP, but also alot of health regen, to stack with his passive. Actually, this is far more cost effective for Dr. Mundo, as HP = Health Regen! Also, 60% of the HP is added to Maximum Dosage healing. Over 600 more healing? NP!

Randuin's build of Heart of Gold, and gives you a nice boost in armor and health. Don't forget the O V E R W H E L M I N G ! 5% CDR :P Also, the active is great for givin' Dr. Mundo more CC! This is a must have!

Frozen Mallet is a great item on Dr. Mundo, that can replace Warmog's Armor. It gives a nice 700 HP, 20 AD and a great passive, that makes Dr. Mundo slow with 40%! Unlimited 40% slow! Dr. Mundo is now Ashe x100! Absolutely amazing :)

Frozen Heart is a good item, providing us with 99 armor (o_O), 500 wasted mana, but it's definitely worth buying for the armor, and the passive CDR and Aura. 20% lesser AS to all enemies near Dr. Mundo? Y E S P L Z!

This item is pure awesomeness, not only does it give +76 Magic Resist and 8% Movement speed, but it also gives 0.35% of your max HP as health regen every second! Great!

Aegis of the Legion is a nice early - mid game item, i would not recommend this unless your support aren't getting it, and you prefer it alot. Let me take a few tests, it seems interesting.

Atma's impaler is both DPS and tanky item, it provides both, with +45 armor and 18% crit. Also, 1.5% of your HP is added as damage! Great on Dr. Mundo!!!

I would only take this item, if i was against a heavy AD team (See Ninja Tabi). Also, it's not really worth building at normal, too plain IMO. Only armor, and the passive, no more. You benefit more from Frozen Heart and Randuin's Omen.

Snowball items are great stuff, in the right hands. If you somehow get 3/0/1 at first B, 5/0/2 at 7 mins, get this fast. This is great for Dr. Mundo and provides him with sexy early game HP and at 20 stacks, 15% less DMG!!! OMGWTFBBQ!

DPS Items

This is the crown jewel of Offtank/DPS Dr. Mundo. If you ever, ever get this far, you will probably roll like hell. Now, the team has 3 massive threats. Their AD carry, their AP carry and WTF??? Their tank? This combined with Atma's Impaler will give you 43% crit! And with around 300 DMG, you will be critting for 600+!

Wit's end is an awesome item, 40% AS and a bunch of MR, will give you great DPS! Not to mention jungling will be alot faster! I get this mostly in the offtank/DPS Dr. Mundo but it is very viable on tank Dr. Mundo too!

Kinetic, ur kiddin' right? Nope, im not :) This isn't recommended, but if you team has a tank and needs damage, this + IE and Wits, and add some tankiness on top, and whooop, you have a killer machine with no equals. But i say. Dr. Mundo isn't an AD carry, only do this if you are in very need of damage!

This item is interesting. It could be replaced with Wit's End. This will give you more AS, but no MR. Also, you will gain a nice active and some HP. Try it out is my advice. It cannot go that wrong :P

Gameplay - Juicy Juggly Jumbo Jungling!

This is a standard jungle route for Dr. Mundo. Start out at wraiths. As Dr. Mundo, you don't even need your allies to damage them, they fall like ants for the shoe. As your done with wraiths, go to red and wait for it spawns.

When it spawns, get a leash and kill it. Congratulations! Dr. Mundo is now lvl 2! Level up your Infected Bonesaw and go gank a lane close to red buff. If you were succesful, great! If not, gank another lane, and depending on if you forced a flash/killed, go back to jungle abit, and then recall as soon as you have 800 - 900 gold.

Now, do as you like. I like to gank alot, and farm wraiths/wolves when they are up. Ask who needs gank, check if they ward, and btw don't be afraid to use Exhaust early in gank to make them panic flash, and then throw cleaver.

Enemies of the Doctor - Other junglers you might face.

This section is devoted to learn you how to handle other junglers. Most junglers are different to you, but there's things you need to know when playing vs. them. Let's get started!

This guy is so easy. I mean seriously, he can do nothing in the early lvls. You beat him straight out, and you should start at his red and wraiths. Always counterjungle him, whenever you can, clear his S H I T and get out, always leave a mob or two, so it won't respawn, and he will have to kill them for them to get back, and he lose time and xp. Really this is too easy. GGWPNoobseasy.

This guy is tricky. You should start at his red and wraiths if possible. After that, ward your own red, and only counterjungle him with a simple wraith smite. His damage is strong early, don't 1v1 him unless you have a clear advantage, and not after 6, his ult is too stronk.

Don't mess with this guy. Get your team to invade his blue early, pop boxes, and if possible take blue. If you don't take his blue, don't mess with him. If you get it, simply, ruin him. Take everything in his jungle. Countergank him. Do whatever you can to ruin his game. Don't 1v1 him, you will regret it :(

This guy is early game monster. He carries like a boss, but he is S H I T lategame. He always lvl 2 ganks and get's his team alot of kills, and then falls of late. If you can, take his blue or red. Preferably blue. No matter how much you counterjungle him, he only need lvl 2 to make some ********* ganks. Just assist your team, gank alot and keepit till' lategame. Then you will win. GGWP!

Teamfighting as Massive Mundo Train!

When playing Dr. Mundo there are some things to keep in mind. You need to initiate. You need to know when to initiate. You need to defend you allies. You need to take hits for your team.

spacespace 1. You need to initiate: As tank, your job is to initiate fights and tank. When initiating, you must activate your Maximum Dosage and Ghost if you picked it, and run into the fray followed by your team. Now, when you are in, the enemy will try to CC you, so turn on Heart Zapper.

spacespace 2. You need to know when to initiate: When to initiate is the question. Before a teamfight, you and your team should poke aggresively, with you in front to take the enemy harass. If a carry get's out of position, and you hit him/her with a cleaver, don't breath a moment, go for it. Initiate. Always initiate fights when you have a little advantage.

spacespace 3. You need to protect your allies: This is a big mistake that even i do sometimes. Because of your damage output and tankiness, you can hunt down their carry pretty easy. But don't ever leave your team to kill the carry. They need you desperately, and you should be there. If you can, get an assasin with you and decimate the carry quickly. If not, let you and your team roll like a massive wall of damage, with you infront to take the damage. If you hit the carry with Infected Bonesaw they are dead. GG.

spacespace 4. You need to take hits for your allies: If Ezreal is jumping at your carry, go intercept him and take his Mystic Shot damage and try kill him. If Morgana shoots Dark Binding at your carry, take it for them. Basically, you are a moving shield, living to protect your allies. Live out the thinking. And be that shield in teamfights.
