It's kind of ok, but Lee Sin is actually much better as an offtank.

Attack Speed is not really needed for Lee Sin, he needs Hp/resistance and mobility. Items that grant attack that you should get are only really Trinity Force and Atma's Impaler. You'll find, as you said, without being drastically fed, you will be screwed. You'll then be the target for the rest of the match, constantly being killed off first and hunted down.
