Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Ezreal- Dominating the battlefield wherever I go!
Hello everybody and welcome to my Ezreal guide. I've been recently playing Ezreal a ton because I always hear people saying he sucks now and he's a useless squishy after the nerf. So I decided to pick him back up and man I love him. He is an amazing champ and he is no where near underpowered you just got to know what he's good at and you can't play him like most carries. I prefer AD Ezreal over AP Ezreal because his spells are still very useful even when you go AD. Your W still provides great attack speed buff/debuff despite not having damage from AP. Your E is still an amazing escape even without AP, and your ult still has great AoE damage. With AD Your mystic shot can deal insane damage with great range it also applies on hit effects so lizard buff is awesome on Ezreal. Lastly his passive really increases his damage output as long as you use your spells and keep the 5 stacks up.
Having good runes is key to harnessing Ezreal's inner power. With these runes his early game damage will be through the roof and your opponents won't know what hit em. I see in some Ezreal guides their runes are focused on mana regen and defense. This is bad! Ezreal is not like most carries, he can not just sit back and farm expecting to be unstoppable and fed late game. Ezreal's power is all in his early game, Ezreal has arguably the best early game damage output of any champion in the game. You can 1v1 practically anyone at levels 1-6 with the right runes and masteries. This is what people don't understand. The main reason I kill so easily in early game is because of the fact that people underestimate Ezreal's power and they treat him as a no threat underpowered squishy. Say you're up against a Mordekaiser in mid, he sees Ezreal and says pft this'll be a piece of cake I can take him on anytime. The Mordekaiser will start to get his shield up and lets say at level 3 he has his full shield up and he charges in for the kill thinking he's hot stuff. DO NOT RUN. This Morde has over extended and he is overestimating his power. Show him who's boss and fight back. You will kill him I guarantee it. (Unless of course he is on some kind of steroid hax damage buffer.
Anyways, so my runes:
For Marks I use armor penetration for early game damage and full damage to creeps.
For Seals I use attack damage to also increase my early game damage.
For Glyphs I use magic resist because it will give you extra survivability against the mages that normally go mid.
For Quints I go attack damage for even more early damage.
Notice a pattern here? Oh yea early game damage! I can't stress this enough, early game is how Ezreal gets started and you NEED TO GET KILLS. Farming with Ezreal is not how you play!
For masteries I go a 21-9-0 build. I make sure to take all the damage buffs in offense while going down in defense to get health regen/mana and armor & magic resists.
For my starting items I like to grab a Doran's blade and a health potion. The Doran's blade really helps with survivability because it gives you lifesteal and health to make up for the health quints you don't have. It also gives 8 damage that can mean the difference between a kill or not.
This is my core build and I like to do my first recall after getting 1600 gold. That way I can buy the 2 items. However if you get too low on health and you have to recall early don't be afraid to just buy either the parts of sheen or sheen and some health potions.
After my core I normally get a sword of the occult because I always have at least 1-3 kills by the time I do my second port back to base. This sword will really beef up your damage for such little cost, at full stacks it's equivalent to a built up bloodthirstier for only half the cost! You can easily get stacks by using your ult for assists and keeping them won't be a problem because you have your handy dandy escape mechanism.
I get Beserker's Greaves next to supply good attack speed and the extra +1 movespeed.
Next I normally go for some damage and bloodthirster fits that great. Ezreal is great at farming creeps so you should have the full bonuses in no time. Also the lifesteal is amazing in 1v1 fights and it procs off your Q too!
For more damage the last whisper is awesome for a low cost. It gives 40% armor penetration for those pesky tanks and an additional 40 damage.
Trinity Force is just pure amazing on Ezreal. It gives him a chance to slow and his mystic shot will hit for more than twice as much because it procs on this! However it's not good to get early because there would be no damage to increase, lol.
For my last item I like to get something defensive and frozen heart fits Ezreal perfectly. The CDR is amazing for spamming your mystic shot. It also gives armor and mana with the additional effect of slowing opponents attack speeds by 20%. (Great for 1v1).
What makes Ezreal unique is he is all skillshots and you have to have good aim to be good with him. You need to know how to predict the enemies movements and understand exactly how all of his abilities work.
Mystic Shot- Ezreal fires a bolt of energy dealing 40 / 65 / 90 / 115 / 140 plus 110% of his attack damage as physical damage (applies on-hit effects). Ezreal's cooldowns are reduced by 1 second if Mystic Shot hits a target.
This is AD Ezreal's bread and butter skill. It has a low cooldown and it's amazing for harassment. It scales with your AD on a 1:1 ratio and applies on hit effects making lizard god-mode for Ezreal.
Essence Flux- Ezreal fires a wave of energy that damages all enemy champions it passes through for 75 / 125 / 175 / 225 / 275 (+60% of ability power). Affected ally and enemy champions have their attack speed respectively hasted or slowed by 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40% for 5 seconds.
This ability as AD will normally be used only to lower attack speed for team fights and 1v1 situations. So it's still useful but it would of course be 100% better in AP.
Arcane Shift- Ezreal fires a wave of energy that damages all enemy champions it passes through for 75 / 125 / 175 / 225 / 275 (+60% of ability power). Affected ally and enemy champions have their attack speed respectively hasted or slowed by 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40% for 5 seconds.
This ability is Ezreal's best friend, it's a free flash with just a short delay to activate. It can get him out of mostly anything and he can jump through walls using it. The damage is also nice early game but it will simmer out in late game because it scales of AP.
Trueshot Barrage- Ezreal channels for 1 second to fire a barrage of missiles dealing 350 / 500 / 650 (+70% of ability power) magic damage to each unit it passes through. However, it deals 8% less damage for each unit it hits (Minimum 30%).
This ability is straight up beast, it's like Karthus's ult only cooler and it can hit minions. The damage isn't the best late game as AD Ezreal but never doubt it because it can easily kill off squishies like Teemo and a Tryndamere running away after using his ultimate. Not to mention is has the coolest animation of any skill in the game.
IMMA FIRIN MAH TRUESHOT BARRAGE!!!!111
For AD Ezreal's skill sequence it's quite simple. Just level your ult and mystic shot whenever possible and level arcane shift on the side. Don't level your W at all until lvl 13 because it's near useless without AP and just one rank won't do you any good. Just follow the sequence at the top it's pretty simple really.
Exhaust- I take this spell because it really helps in 1v1 and getting the early game kills you need a ton.
Ignite- I take ignite because it's amazing for boosting your damage in early game and it's a great counter for Warwick and Dr.Mundo. I never go without this.
