Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Nasus - The Curator of the Sands
This will be my second guide. Here i will describe my playstyle with Nasus. He is a champion which is greatly underestimates normaly when it comes to raw damage output and being able to survive in team fights. What makes him especialy good in team fights is the extra health he gets from his ultie and also his aoe damage that ticks percentage life on nearby enemy champions. This guide will be written only for solo nasus and by that i mean always have a 2vs1 lane. Especialy grab the lane with the dragon so you can take it as soon as your level 6.
Extremely powerful late game
Can initiate team fights
Has CC - Slow
Has no strong CC - Stun/Snare/Fear etc.
Has no gap closers
Not an easy champion to get used to
Siphon Strike - [Q]
Nasus's next attack will deal an additional 30 / 50 / 70 / 90 / 110 damage (+100% of AD). Siphoning Strike permanently gains 2 damage whenever it kills an enemy.
Cooldown 9 / 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 seconds | Cost 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 mana | Range 300
- So you get 2 extra damage whenever you last hit a minion or a champion with this ability, end game youll stack it to around 150 or so on a regular game if you farm correctly. This skill will be doing massive amount of damage late game critting up to 1.6k - 1.7k damage. This skill has a 1.0 AD ratio - so basicly its 1.0 AD + How much last hits you got with it + his own scaling.
Wither - [W]
Nasus ages his target, slowing their movement and attack speed by 35% and reducing it further by 3 / 6 / 9 / 12 / 15% each second for 5 seconds.
Cooldown 15 seconds | Cost 100 mana | Range 700
- Wither is one of the best slow downs in the game, excluding the actual slow down it also slow downs the targets atack speed which is great if you use it on the primary carry of the enemy team. You can get easy kills with this and your ultie at level 6 when your opononents are level 4 on the lane.
Spirit Fire - [E]
After a brief delay, the target area becomes desecrated. Enemies in the area have their armor reduced by 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 and are dealt 20 / 34 / 48 / 62 / 76 (+20% of ability power) magic damage each second.
Cooldown 12 seconds | Cost 70 / 85 / 100 / 115 / 130 mana | Range 650
- Reason why i called my guide "Farmer Bob" is because of this skill. If played correctly and not being zoned early game by the 2 enemy champions, at level 7 you will be able to instakill entire creepwaves with just this one spell. Played correctly as said, you will get 6 minion kills each wave - which means after 3 waves or so you will earn the same amount of money as killing an enemy champion. With mana regen runes, at level 7, you will be able to use this spell twice per minion wave. Once to clear their minions and once to zone them from getting your minion kills at their tower. Ill describe more about this in the actual game playstyle later on in the guide.
Fury of the Sands - Ultimate [R]
Nasus becomes empowered in the sandstorm for 15 seconds, gaining 300 / 450 / 600 health. While the storm rages, he drains 3 / 4 / 5 (+1% of ability power)% of nearby enemies' health each second (240 damage max per second) and converts it into bonus attack damage.
Cooldown 120 seconds | Cost 150 mana | Range 20
- This skill can realy be called an ultimate skill. At level 6 once you get it, you can kill dragon like you would be killing a normal minion. You can also decide to quickly steal their blue/red depending on what side you are, or you can just use to gank someone and get a free kill since the level difference will be 6 to 4 you will destroy them literaly. Acompanied with ghost/flash/wither combo they wont get away from you. With it you can also initiate team fights.
Soul Eater - Passive
Nasus drains his foe's spiritual energy, giving him a natural 10/15/20% lifesteal. The lifesteal value increments at levels 1,6, and 11.
- A strong and reliable passive, with it you dont need to buy any lifesteal items the entire game. Also gives you a strong early game since its like a free vampiric scepter. Making your solo lane even stronger.
I went with the most basic mastery build out in the open "9-0-21". The extra mana regen you get from utility will make you more or less mana problem free at around level 7 combined with your runes - meaning you can cast your spirit fire whenever its up, giving you an extremely powerfull early/mid game. Offense tree is basicly for some extra crit chance and the CD - Spell pen isnt that important since siphon strikes works with Armor pen, however both your ult and your Spirit fire works with spell pen, so it does get handy in the long run.
As if said a couple of times in the guide already, not having mana problems with this beast will make your early to mid game incomparably strong to other champions. So absolutely keep the yellows and blues as they are.
Extra health is always nice when it comes to solo laning against 2 enemy champions, so the health quints aint a bad investment for Nasus.
You will want to keep your marks on either more crit chance or armor pen. Keep em offensive - especialy with the item build "Cleaver/Last Whisper", you might actualy want to go for crit chance runes instead. Since once you get your sheen at around level 9ish, critting an enemy champion with Siphon Strike for around 300 - 400 isnt all that bad.
4. Summoner spells
Nasus has one weak point for being a melle carry dps. Unlike yi/jax/xin etc, nasus has zero gap closing power. He however has a strong slow. Combine that slow with ghost/flash combo and the enemy wont get away. Reason why i go with flash instead of ignite, is because why use ignite that deals what ? around 300ish dmg at most, when you can use flash and siphon strike the enemy for a 1000 damage instead. Flash will also give you a reliable get away when doing dragon at level 6 and is generaly a realy great spell for either catching up, running away or initiating team fights.
Starting items will be Doran shield and 1 health pot. With these items you should be able to survive on a lane without a problem up to about level 9ish. Basicly if your doing well you shouldnt have to go back until you have around 2k gold - with that you can buy a sheen, level 1 boots, and one defensive item part from Aegis of the Leagion. Pick the defensive item so you will counter your lane - magic, dps etc.
At around 15 - 20 min in game you should have the following items:
Boots of mobility
Aegis of the Legion
With these 4 items you will be an unstopable force unlike the weak version of you which is malphite :P. Reasoning in to why i pick mobility over any other boots, is because with nasus you need one thing, closing the gap first on the enemy, so you can bash their skull in. It is also a powerful tool early game when your on your lane or either roaming trying to get dragon, lizard, etc. Aegis of the legion will cover all the defence you need until extremely into late game. Of course you dont need me to tell you if there is a galio/amumu/mf "whatever" combo, you should get merc thread. Dont forget, if you can try and squezze in Fortitute elixirs for major team fights.
If the game lasts long enough and your able to finish your item set which would look like this:
Boots of mobility
Aegis of the Legion
+ all the elixirs required
You will be instakilling their carries. Or to be realistic two shoting them with siphon strike + your next following auto atack. You will also be able to mow down any tank such as garen or whatever will come your way with them sunfire capes - trying to act all importantish. However to be realistic for you to get all these items - EVEN with nasuses awesome farming power, the game will have to last around 45 -50 min or so.
Nasus can be an extremely powerful tool in the right set of hands. He also takes quite a bit of time to get used to - especialy the part from how much damage you can rationaly do on a target. Because before you get used to him you might get scared and turn back instead of staying in and getting 2 kills without a problem. So dont get dismotivated if you dont do that great in your first couple of games.
Nasus early game is a bit weak until you reach about level 5, you might get zoned but try and stick in dont be afraid to use your health pot even at level 1, because you NEED that experiance to get you up early game. With dorans shield, your passive life steal and all the mana regen runes you should be able to stay on the lane without returning for quite a while, allthough you never know how good the enemy team will be since you are taking the dragon lane and that lane normaly has 2 enemies. Once you reach level 7 the fun begins. With enough mana regen you can cast spirit fire twice on each creep wave. First one is to kill all 6 creeps, second one is to deny the enemy your own minions at their tower. Literaly zoning them away from minion kills.
At level 7 they will be around level 5 meaning they wont have their ults yet. If by chance they try to go for a 2vs1 gank dont run away if you got full health to start with. Pop your ult, drop your spirit fire and bash away at them youll probably get a free kill that way. Normaly the enemy is smarter and they will call for their jungler - if that happens use your ghost/flash to get away. Also dont underestimate the power of siphon strike - keep getting last hits with it, it will also do amazing damage on the tower if you can manage to close the gap on it while dealing with 2 enemy champions.
Also dont forget at level 6, if your jungler hasnt yet, you can grab the dragon real quick with your ultimate.
If you were a good farmer, you should have enough money to go back at this point and get your boots 1, sheen, and one defensive item part from Aegis. Now you basicly completely control your lane. Keep getting every single minion kill. Dont get yourself killed for trying to take down the tower, i know its tempting, but grabing those minion kills is your first priority. Nasus to be an effective carry late game - Which he is, hands down - you need a bundle of gold to back yourself up with all those items.
You more or less already build your Aegis, Trinity and your working on your Black cleaver. You should be a formidable power now in team fights. You are stronger than any other champion currently in your game 1vs1 - probably even 2vs1 in most cases. So dont be afraid to back your team up by initiating fights. Remember, your not a tank ! So preferably have your tank initiate - you are "tanky" though.
