Top Lane Items
General Information About Nautilus
Hi, I am Malkavian and this is my Nautilus In-Dept Guide for 3 different roles. I have 1500+ Nautilus games and I played Nautilus in Gold,Plat,Diamond Elo Ranked games. My favorite role is Top Lane with Nautilus. I ll try to explain few tricks while playing Naut so you can easily outduel / outdps and outcc most champions in the game.
Here is two full gameplays
First of all Nautilus is a champion who has most CC types. He has snare, Stun , Knock-back and slow so while playing Nautilus it is important to use this CC power on right targets.
When you should build what?
Itemization is the most important part of playing Nautilus. So lets talk about it. Nautilus gets great damage output by building some ap/tanky items just like chogath most people dont know it and they build it pure tanky but in late game or in mid game teamfights while opponents not focusing you dealing everybody damage while tanking them gives you a great advantage.
Sheen Most people dont even bother building this on Nautilus but it gives great damage output also you can combine it with your shield (which resets your auto attack) so you can deal 3x damage in 1 second.
Boots of Swiftness Another underrated item. IF you are playing a champion which has slow this item gives you great advantage with green enchantment or red enchantment on it.
Spirit Visage Naut dont has any self healing but still this items is the best option if enemy has ap champions.
Dead Man's Plate Nautilus' first attack always deal extra bonus damage and snares your target for a very short duration. Build Dead Man's plate and double the damage when you first hit your enemy use your shield to reset your auto attack and boom hit your oppenent with sheen aswell. Tons of damage in 1 seconds.
Iceborn Gauntlet You are already a cc king. You cc so much that enemies hate you why dont you make it even stronger with Gauntlet while you are getting extra mana pool and cooldown reduction which naut needs alot?
Liandry's Torment We all know that Liandry deals % dmg to your targets and it doubles damage to cced targets. Guess what you have CC! So use this item and enjoy the double % damage while you are using your ordinary combo
Sterak's Gage Naut is a tanky guy already. And we builded some damage too. The only problem Naut has is his huge cooldowns so you need to be alive to use your 2nd combo in teamfights. Sterak gives you great opportunity to stay alive with a random shield popping up while your enemies try harding to kill you.
Sunfire Cape Gives you better farm opportunity in top lane. Use this item if your opponent is heavy ad champion. Also build Liandry with this item it synergises with it. most people dont know it! Sssh dont tell thm the secret.
Thornmail If enemy team has a fed adc, master freaking yi , trynd em all, zed, yasuo etc just build this item and cc the f out of them. If your hp/armor eneough you can watch em die by just hitting you :)
Zeke's Harbinger Almost the berst item for support Naut. Gives Mana which you will need alot, gives you ap which increases your damage, gives you cooldown reduction and gives you armor. Build it you will see the use of it.
General Jungle Guide
Terms you might see while reading my guide:
AS: Attack Speed
AD: Attack Damage
AP: Ability Power
MS: Movement Speed
MR: Magic Resist
AR: Armor (Easy one)
aa: Auto Attack
CJ: Counter Jungle
This guide is for jungling. First of all you have 2 choice to begin with. Blue side or Red Side. Each side has several benefits so I will try to explain as much as I can.
1- Blue Side Start: Route should be Blue Buff->Gromp->Wolves->Gank mid/top -> If you have enough HP go get red (if your enemy has a jungler who can steal your red)
Benefits: This route is the best route for no aoe or sustain champions. It keeps your hp in a good level so you can go to your red side jungle too.
Down Sides: Only down side is if enemy has a counter jungler they can steal your red buff. Also Red side gives more experience but nowadays it is hard to start from red side.
2- Red Side Start: I personally don't try to start from red side no matter what.
Route: Red Buff->Krugs->Birds->Crab->Gank mid or bot, If you have enough Hp go ahead and clear Blue side too since it is way easier than red side.
Benefits: With this route you get by far the best experience. You can even be lvl 3 in 3-4 mins. Great route for 3 lvl gankers like Shaco,Xin Zhao, Lee Sin etc.
Down Sides: This route have many mob spawns and if you dont have any aoe skills it is really hard to do it. It is time consuming but great on gaining exp.
How to be a Better Jungler:
As a jungler your most important job is being awere of map! Means you gotta keep track of enemy cooldowns (flash/ulti/TP) You gotta know when Dragon/Baron Spawns ( Easy with new patch you always see the cooldown but you gotta remind your teammates when Dragon or Baron will spawn cause they are busy with dealing farming/enemy harrass/ jungler ganks)
Always ping as soon as you decided to gank a lane. If you pinged a lane to gank dont try to abandon it unless you see a good opportunitiy.
Always buy pink ward and place it between top and mid. (yes that is your job!) So your top and mid laner might save themselves from 1-2 enemy jungler ganks which is good for you. Enemy jungler will lose time and buy sweeper (if you want to Counter Jungle) Always try to smite Birds for the vision buff and clear the wards around the map
Always choose a jungle path which gives you gank opportunities faster. For example: If you feel like enemy top laner will push ( Riven, Irelia, Vlad always pushes lanes :) ) then start with wolves go for gromp then take blue and you can good to gank top lane when it is pushed. But if you start gromp then go blue then you try to kill wolves you lose time to walk back to top lane.
Be efficient with you time. Do not waste time walking mid lane if your mid lane is pushed. Go farm mobs when all lanes are pushed. Also ganking top lane is always tricky after lvl 6 , DO not camp top unless you see neemy jungler close to their top lane, cause if you camp top enemy jungler can easily take drag.
Try to help lanes that has disadvantage in lane (Irelia vs Ryze/Vlad) ranged vs melee match ups are tough. So help your poor Irelia :) Dont forget that your team as strong as your weakest lane.
Best (Safe) Jungle Route for Season 7
General Support Guide
As a Support your main goal is the protect your adc and give him opportunity to kill his/her enemies. At some situations you even have to sacrifice yourself to save the adc. But not always...
So I need to split this guide into two sections.
Part 1 - How you should play if you have a good ADC?
Lets clear that up. How you can know if you have a good adc. And before getting into that you gotta know your playstyle too. If you are a passive support a passive-farmer adc is very good for you. Since you clicked with him he is the best adc for you.
But for me since I like to play agressive and I play agressive supports, a passive adc is a nightmare! While playing Naut/Leona support and if you q/e to your target if you immobilize them and deal some damage and if you adc is still farming mobs not even auto attacking the target you are focusing... That you can call a bad adc. Farming is important but when your support trading you gotta be near him. So if you see an adc farming no matter what you do. You can call him bad adc and move on to Part II :)
Ok enough talk. If your adc is good.
-Try to poke your enemies while taking min damage.
-Always use your support item cooldown to get extra gold.
-Always keep track of your adcs mana/hp/summoners before engaging enemies.
-Always ward river and pink ward tribush.
-If you are ahead in lane and if you are pushing alot you need to ward even more. Expand your warding range and ward enemy blue/tribush and always ward dragon.
-Inform your team whenever you see enemy jungler in map. (support has more time than solo laners and adc to do that)
-Inform your team for Dragon/Baron timers.
-Sacrifice yourself for your fed teammates/adc/apc if needed.
-Try to build right items for enemy composition.
Part 2 - How you should play if you have a bad ADC?
Are you flaming each other alot? Do you feel like you are not clicked? Is he making stupid turret dives for their support? His farm is bad? Is he getting grabbed by blitz/thresh every single time? Ok he is bad adc but you can still win a game with bad adc. You just have to mute him incase he flames more and change your playstyle a bit.
-Try to protect him as much as you can but do not sacrifice yourself for him
-Try to farm when he is not in lane as much as you can. Do not care for his fall back pings.
-Try to roam mid/enemy jungle and try to follow your jungler whenever he comes close to bot side.
-Try to go mid and push mid turret fast.
-Try to camp mid and force enemy mid laner to go base or kill him ( even better)
-If you get some advantage ( kill/ assist) turn back to bot lane and try your chance with your bad adc once more with better items/lvl
-Protect and support whoever is fed jungler/top/mid.
-Always Ward dragon/baron and enemy jungle (in late game)
-If you see enemy jungler moving to your jungle always go help your jungler instead of a bad adc.
This is a game where my adc was not that good. So that is why i took some farm and kills.
General Top Lane Guide
As a top laner your main goal is to win your lane / destroy your opponents turret and maintaining map control.
To do that you need to pick Teleport. I know some top laners like Renek/Fiora/Trynd/Riven players starts with ignite. That is WRONG! It is more like saying ' Hey guys I am gonna play to win my lane and you guys will be 4v5 in all mid/late game teamfights!' ' Ah btw also if I split push and if tf starts I can be there aproximately 1 min after tf starts!' 'Ah btw if enemy top laner has tp and if he is smart and if he split push i need to go over there to face him but if he tp to teamfight when i jsut get there gg wp enemy team will win.'
SO as a toplaner stop being selfish and pick TELEPORT (If you are not againist swain or vlad etc. But in that situation ask your midlaner to take tp.)
If you are not losing your lane hard. Do not use your Teleport to get into your lane all the time. You can use the first TP cooldown to get back in lane but use rest to get some objectives. It is just as bad as picking another summoner if you use Teleport to get back in lane all the time. Stop being selfish and use your abilities and resources to help teammates.
To play top lane you need be expert about champions. Not just all the top lane champions you need to know about junglers too. If you lack knowledge about your opponents skillset you will lose 1v1 most likely. Without knowing when you can deal spike damage and when you should deal damage do not play a solo lane. It is important to know which champion has advantage on what level.
For example Renekton is weak in 1-2 levels, Akali q+aa have insane 1st level damage, Riven has the most dmg output in lvl 1 with his q and aa combo, Vlad is a strong champion but in level 1-2 you can outdps a Vlad easily, Garen is good at level 2 and he doesnt use mana so be careful and dont let him liferegen so attack him once in a while to not proc his hp regen, Maokai is strong in every 5th spell etc.
So without knowing your enemy skillset and when your enemy can win trades do not play 1v1 lanes.
What you should do as a TOP LANER?
-Always try to be first in lane and kill first 2-3 melee mobs earlier than your opponent without taking damage.
-If you manage to kill enemy melee minions always trade with your enemy since your minions can deal more than you in 1st level.
-After using your omba fall back to lsoe enemy minion aggro. Minions deal tons of damage in first 1-3 level range so mind them.
-Always ward your river bush in 3-4 min mark. Most of the junglers gank top lane first when their jungle rotation is done. Depending on the champion they gank mostly in 3:30 min
-If you feel like losing trades, give up on some mobs stay close enough to get exp and farm under your turret.
-Btw learn how to farm under turret if you cant do it! (If you lose more than 2 minions under your turret that means you need training)
-Always build items to counter your opponents. If enemy has ad champs build armor if enemy has ap top laner build Magic resist.
-Keep an eye on bot lane side after lvl 6 and if your teammates deep wards bot lane ( means the wards on their lane side bush which is perfect for tp) always seek for gank opportunities ( if you enemies pushing lane and if they pass the deep ward)
-Try to be close to objectives. If you jungler pings rift herald be there.
-Do not leave your lane without pushing it. Top lane is a long lane so if you push lane and recall you can get back to lane without losing mobs to your turret.
-Do not push your lane unless you are very confident about dodging skills. Focus point of most junglers are top and mid lane.
-Try to kill crab in river to maintain more vision in your spare time.
-If you are sure enemy jungler is nor near and if your enemy leaves lane try to farm even the packs on your enemies 2nd turret (Proxy farm)
-In first 10 min build to win your lane but after that try to analyse enemy team and prepare yourself to teamfights. For example if your enemy is Vlad and if you already killed him 2-3 times. And if you game has a 4 kill Lucian on enemy team. Stop building MR items and build armor/hp items instead. See the bigger picture and win the game.
-If match is goin easy for you and if you think you can win trades easily on 1v1 When you see enemy jungler in bot lane without a red buff on him. Go for his jungle and try to steal red buff
-Always change your yellow trinket with the blue one after level 9. It gives more vision range and you can spam it as long as wards not seen. It is OP trust me.
How to Play Top Lane Nautilus
For 1v1 2v2 Match-ups
Most people try to use their (Q) to engage but i find it wrong. Try my way and you will see why my combo better.
If you builded Dead Man's Plate this is alot better. Just walk to your enemy. Dont use your shield yet we are gonna use it to reset auto attack. Hit your target with your passive and dead man's passive, use your (W) to reset your auto and then hit your target with an extra auto attack. Right after that use your (E) skill to slow your target. If your target starts to run he will get more than 1 wave of your (E) which is better. Then wait a bit for resets (if you builded Sheen or Iceborn) then use (Q) on your target+ aa once more + (E) it will be back up. if your targets starts to run just wait a bit longer and use your ultimate. and (E)+ aa to finish your target's remaining hp.
Key to winning tamfights is using your ultimate on many people. If you see support, adc and tank lined up in front of you dont hesitate to use your ultimate on tank along the way it will hit the adc anyway. And it will deal it's full damage. In teamfights try to auto attack as many people as you can since your first attack to unique targets snare them. Make them slowed and snared all the time. Give your team time to dps them down.
Passive: Snares the target that you first hit
Q: Hooks the target to yourself and you and your target meet the half way.
W: Shields yourself and resets your auto attack
E: Aoe damage to a full circle which also slows
R: Follows the selected target and deals damage while knocking target to air.
This is a ranked game with Nautilus in Plat Elo. Enjoy and ask me any question that you have please.

Opinion About Mage Update
I really think some mages are now overpowered and until they got nerfed they are constantly getting banned such as Malzahar,Brand. But Mage Update (6.9 PAtch) Also let us play Nautilus without getting banned finally. Since Malzahar / Ekko / Zed gets banned %99 of the games nobody bans NAut anymore. Also many ppl tend to play mages on support or in top lane or in jungle nowadays so it lets you carry games with Naut. Since a good frontline makes you win late game vs a no frontline team.
Hope you like my guide for Nautilus ladies and gentleman. If you have any questions or suggestions feel free to ask me on comments section and if you like this guide please give thumbs up.
Have fun on your games!
