Introduction

Hello summoners !!!

I'm Perla from EUW server. Im FAR from a pro player and don't play ranked games much or at least without the ambition to reach a high elo but just to enjoy the game and make sure that at the end of it, my team won't flame me as much as they could before.

Anivia support <3
It's not viable ? Read and think again !!!!
Can be also used for those who wanted to go Anivia Mid and finally had to face a troll "mid intant lock". This guide WILL THEN ONLY DEAL WITH ANIVIA SUPPORT even though there is tips that you can also use as a midlaner.

When to use Anivia Support
- In Normal and draft game. Feel free to pick her and carry your team :)

- In Low elo Ranked games (Bronze and silver)if you know what botlane you are gonna face and if your team is ok with it.

- In Middle Elo Ranked games (Gold and Platinium). Here you need to know Anivia perfectly in her AP mid laner role as much as her support potential. Never pick her if you dont know what bot lane you are gonna deal with.

- In High Elo Ranked games (Diamond and Challenger) I definetly won't recommend her as support because I think you won't suprise anyone and some pick like Thresh or Leona should be prioritize if they are still open

Additional informations


Even though you may think that Anivia can only play as AP mid laner, I'm here to prove you wrong. I'm not gonna spend to much time about the mechanic of the champion as the time you will spend to read will be reperctuted on the time you can use to practice her.

This guide will be even more efficient if you are use to play Anivia as Mage AP because as we will see before Anivia don't necessarly needs 1k AP to deal damage and a good Q (slow + activation after the slow to stun) + E will help your adc a lot to burst down hi opponent

This guide is of course questionable and many choices can be seen as more efficient such as
exhaust instead of ignite. I ll try to explain as much as possible why "this" and not "this"

The Lore

An eternal guardian, the Cryophoenix has held a solitary vigil over the Freljord for a thousand lifetimes. Sensing a growing corruption of the land itself, Anivia joins the Avarosan in the belief that a united Freljord can defeat the coming darkness.
Anivia is a being of the coldest winter, a mystical embodiment of ice magic, and an ancient protector of the Freljord. She commands all the power and fury of the land itself, calling the snow and bitter wind to defend her home from those who would harm it. A benevolent but mysterious creature, Anivia is eternally bound to keep vigil over the Freljord through life, death, and rebirth.

Anivia is as much a part of the Freljord as the never-ending frost. Long before mortals had ever set foot on the land's frigid tundra, she had lived countless lifetimes and died as many deaths. The beginnings and ends of her eternal cycle always heralded great change, from the calming of raging storms to the ebb and flow of ice ages. It is said that when the cryophoenix dies, an era ends; and when she is reborn, a new era begins.

Though Anivia's past lifetimes have faded from her memory, she knows her purpose: she must protect the Freljord at all costs.

When she was last reborn, Anivia witnessed the rise of a mighty and united human tribe. She guarded their lands with pride as they prospered, but such unity could not last forever. The great tribe fractured into three, and after that upheaval, Anivia watched the people of the Freljord become embroiled in battle. As she strove to calm the turmoil tearing her home apart, Anivia began to sense a greater threat: an ancient evil growing deep within the earth. To her horror, she felt the pure magic of the ice itself become blackened and corrupt. Like blood in water, darkness crept into the Freljord. With her destiny so tied to the power of the land, Anivia knew if such evil took root in her home, that same darkness would find its way into her heart. She could no longer remain a mere guardian - the cryophoenix had to act.

Anivia soon discovered an ally in Ashe, the Frost Archer. Ashe too believed in unification as an end to the Freljord's perpetual strife, and Anivia offered the tribal leader her aid. Now, with war on the horizon, Anivia prepares to fight for peace, but she knows the inevitable truth of her destiny. One day, evil will rise from the ice, and she must destroy it - no matter the cost.

Runes

Once you have chosen to pick Anivia support, the first thing that you need to do is to find the adequate runes.

What runes can you choose ?

Use the runes I indicated before

Blue runes: Mana seems fundamental you won't have the blue
The per level seems more viable in any ci***stances

Red runes : Magic Penetration are a must have on Anivia support to deal more damage and poke more

Yellow rune : Here you can make you own choice but I personnally prefer Armor to trade in botlane. Some other possibilitie are open such as gold rune but I personnally recommand armor which is something that every invocator has on his account

Masteries

This is my classical AP/Poke Support build. The 9 points in offense are optimised to give you as much DPS as possible and allow us to put 21 points in utility mainly for the gold bonus/Speed/mana Regen... It is possible to go for a classic AP materies set but I won't recommand it

Summoner's Spells

What spell do I have to choose as Anivia Support ?

Must Have
Flash Do I need to explain this choice ? Anivia isn't Mundo and Need an escape during a gank or cant be use in an aggressive way. Its a must have and not an option.

Optionnal
Ignite It is my favourite option as I believe Anivia support is strong due to her capacity of CC and High burst damage. Ignite can secure a kill and greatly help your adc in a trade damage.

Exhaust This is a viable choice more oriented "support like" and can counter many champion such as tryndamere. Help to reduce damage or save your adc from being chased by jungler or other threah on the botlane or later during teamfight. You can go for it if you want to be a support less offenssive.

Heal This is 3rd choice that I personnally don't find as useful as the others but still is viable and can be use for some baits. Not as interresting as ignite or exhaust IMHO

I personnally don't recommand ANY other summoner's spell
Maybe Revive if you miss the Riot Tribunal :)

Items

The items are MAINLY based on a classical Anivia build with some differences regarding to the fact that you can't push or last hit minions for the major part of the game.
That is why I wont discuss much here about the positive effect of such item. This build provides you a guideline and its not the time to discuss each items. Just follow the guide and if you want to be more creative it is up to you.

Notice than some changes occures during the the seasons and as an exemple, the nerf of Liche Ban. Thus some adapation can be made in case of a nerf of up of an item



Thus the gold item is esential.

You can adapate the build to the composition you are facing


I indicated a list of optionnal items that you should use regarding to who you are facing and how the game is going. I will defo won't recommand Doran Ring though !!!

Why this skill seguence
The most important here is to start with the Q by putting a point in it. It is a stun that can be really usefull to give a kill to your adc oonce you hit level 2 or 3 with the combo anivia's combo: Q+E.

Mind your Q as early game your mana can't be use without precautions.

Q the Stun
Q spell needs a lot of anticipation and you need to analyze how your opponent react to it to adaptate it. The key thing to place your Q well and to surprie your oppponent.

DONT FORGET YOOUR Q SPELL NEED TO BE ACTIVATED TWICE AND YOU NEED TO REACTIVE IT JUST AFTER IT PASSES THROUGH YOUR OPPONENT. THIS IS ANOTHER DIFFICULTY BUT IN THE CASE YOU CAN GET IT IT WILL DOUBLE YOUR Q DAMAGE AND THE E SHUD BRING YOU A KILL

The Wall or W
This is probably the most skille spell to place. There is many advice as how to use it but the only advise I can give you here is to practice and practice. You will learn step by step how to put the others in a jail waiting for their death.
This ability probably needs the most training and concentration when using it as it can either make you win or loose a teamfight


The combo E an R
I dont need to explain you much how to ue E. As it is written in the description you need the other champion to be either slowed by R or Stun by your Q to activate it. DONT USE IT WITHOUT IT UNLESS YOU ARE SURE THAT IT WILL SECURE A KILL

Combo
Generally you need to land a Q than R+W+E and you may have a chance to launch another Q+E combo if the opponent is trying to escape. You can finish him off with ignite and if you r adc is about to take the kill leave it to him !!! Dont forget you are a support <3

+ Doesn't need 1k AP to deal massive damage
+ Have a ulti that deal damage/Slow/Reduce Attack speed
+ Your wall can check bush and give a kill easly
+ Your egg will bait many player
+ U ll be even more efficient late game

- The mana cost of the spells
- Anivia mobility is low
- Relies on your potential to land your skill rightly
- Can be consider as a non efficient support a priori

Role in fight / teamfight

How to use your spell During the laning phases

W the wall
This is probably the most skille spell to place. There is many advice as how to use it but the only advise I can give you here is to practice and practice. Your W spell can be use to
- Block and kill an ennemy (Need practice to be used well especially because your wall will be quite small during the laning phase as you need to max your E first)
- Defensive way such as protecting your carry from the other AD Carry or to defend a tower
- It can also provide you a quick vision so you dont need to facecheck everytime you want put a ward which i a big + :)



Q the Stun

Teamfight
Later in the game you will have to face some teamfight. Generally a support is here to protect his AD CARRY and provide utility to all his team or to provide by your ulti a strong crowd control like Sona

With Anivia your role as a support in a teamfight will be oriented in that case:
- Try to use your wall to force a 5v1/2/3 engage in the same way as Anivia AP Mid
There is no difference at all between an Anivia Support or AP Mid in her W :)

If you didn't force the fight with a wall and the teamfight as started
- First auto attack to the approaching ennemy and wait a bit to use R to deal as much Aoe damage as possible to the ennemy team
- At the same try to land your Q on the opposite ADC and burst him down as much as posible
Dont forget the mechanic of the q spell.

Obvisouly it depens a lot of the situation but ideally when a team fight start use
R + W if possibile + Q on AD Caryy + E + auto attack until the cooldowns are up (use that time to review your positionning which has to be the same as an squishy AP mid)

The mechanic for the spell are more or less the same but I the wall can now be used differently

The recent patches

I notice a positive evolution mainly because of the recent up of Anivia (Auto attack is now faster which is good to harras the opponent and it good to give you some extra gold thanks to [spellthief's edge] and the increase of AP Midlaner as Support such as Annie or Karma makes it less "trolly"
