About the Author

Hello, my name is cataah, a main support player from EUW. At this time, im currently standing at Platin 3 in Solo Q.
My main champs are Thresh, Sona and Taric and i can play everyone nearly perfect.
I have over 50 Games with Sona, and a win rate more than 65%.

Pros and Cons

Pros

+High poke in lane phase
+Kill potential at level 6
+Powerful Buffs
+High sustain

Cons

-High mana costs
-Squishy
-Weaker than most Supports

Runes

I think these are the runes who fit Sona perfectly and im always playing with them. With this runes you have a perfect mix of Defense and Attack Potencial for the Laning Phase.

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration: Sona is a 'Poke'-Char. That means u have to try to damage the enemies as often as you can. Try to use the combo Hymn of Valor> Power Chord, to lower your opponents health. This Marks are perfect for this, because they give you some nice Poke-Potencial Early Game.

Greater Seal of Armor: Surviving the early Laning Phase isn't often as easy as you think. In higher divisions, it can be really difficult. In those cases it's always great to be a little bit tankier. These Seals give you a lot of sustain to normal attacks.

Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist: Who need's Magic Resist early, as long as you don't play vs Annie, Zyra or Morgana. That' why u take the Scaling Magic Resist Glyphs, because they give more Magic Resist in Late Game.

Greater Quintessence of Ability Power: POKE POKE POKE POKE. I dont need to say more.

Masteries

Summoner Spells

Flash: It is always useful to escape or to secure Kills. Flash & Crescendo is also a very nice combo to start a Teamfight with Sona.

Ignite: If you have to play vs
Soraka, Taric or other champs which massively heal the enemy ADC, be sure to pick it. It loweres the healing a lot.

Exhaust: I you play vs Champs like Jinx, Sivir or Vayne, which are dealing huge DMG be sure to pick it, and to lower their damage.

Ability Explanation

  • Power Chord: After 3 ability casts, Sona's next basic attack will deal bonus magic damage, with an additional effect depending on the last basic ability cast.
  • Hymn of Valor (Q): ACTIVATION: Sona sends out bolts of sound that deal magic damage to the two nearest enemy units within range, prioritizing champions.
PERSISTENT AURA: Sona plays the Hymn of Valor, granting nearby allied champions within 1000 range bonus attack damage and ability power.
POWER CHORD - STACCATO: If this spell was last cast when Power Chord is ready, Power Chord deals double damage.
  • Aria of Perseverance (W): ACTIVATION: Sona heals herself and a nearby allied champion with the lowest health percentage, granting both of them bonus armor and magic resistance for 3 seconds.
PERSISTENT AURA: Sona plays the Aria of Perseverance, granting nearby allied champions within 1000 range bonus armor and magic resistance.
POWER CHORD - DIMINUENDO: If this spell was last cast when Power Chord is ready, Power Chord will also reduce the target's damage output by 20% for 3 seconds.
  • Song of Celerity (E): ACTIVATION: Sona grants nearby allies increased movement speed for 1.5 seconds.
STANCE - PERSISTENT AURA: Sona plays the Song of Celerity, granting nearby allied champions within 1000 range a flat movement speed bonus.
POWER CHORD - TEMPO: If this spell was last cast when Power Chord is ready, Power Chord will also slow the target by 40% for 2 seconds.
  • Crescendo (R): Sona plays an irresistible chord in a line, dealing magic damage to enemy champions and stunning them for 1.5 seconds, forcing them to dance.

Synergy

Sona is good with

You will have a very easy game in most cases. Draven has high damage output with his Spinning Axe and in combination with your heal and bonus AD, he can max out his full potential.

Caitlyn is also a good ADC on your site.
She has also a huge damage output and some cc. Try to poke as often as you can to harass your opponents.

Vayne is a great ADC. She has a great amount of Attack Damage and a really good CC with her Condemn. If you cast Crescendo right after her Condemn stun is gone, you will kill your enemies really easy.

Kog'Maw is also a great choice, as he is very squishy in early game, you can heal him back to full HP and he can poke enemies more with his Bio-Arcane Barrage. Be sure to poke your enemies as often as you can.

One of my favourite ADC's on my side is Ezreal. He has great Mobility and a great damage output. Poke your enemies and in the right moment after level 6 pop out your Crescendo to burst them down with him.

One of the most broken ADC's is Jinx. High Attack Damage, Much CC and a movement boost. Her Zap! deals huge damage, and she can switch between weapons. After level 6 harass your opponents as much as you can.

Sona is good against

Lulu is very bad against Sona, because Lulu does not have any health sustaining abilities, so try to poke her down in lane. The damage from Pix can be avoided by standing amongst creeps to intercept the damage.

Vayne has a really bad time vs Sona in most cases. Be sure you outsustain her and deny her from farming, to take her out of the game. Try not to stay near a wall, as Vayne's Condemn will stun you if it knocks you back against a wall.

Sona is also good against Nami, because Sona can outsustain the enemy ADC more than Nami. Be sure to dodge her bubbles.Nami's ultimate is very long, but it travels slowly. Try your best to get out of the way of the waves.

Twitch is extremely vulnerable, and has no escape abilities, that's why Sona is good against him. Avoid clumping against a Twitch - his ultimate deals massive damage to targets in a line. Be sure to outsustain him, and deny him from farming.

Try to keep her passive down by doing short frequent pokes and harassments. Miss Fortune is very vulnerable when she is channeling her ultimate, so pop out your Crescendo when she activates her Ultimate.

The only thing you have to know when you play against a Nidalee is: AVOID THE DAMN SPEARS. That's the only reason you can lose your lane vs her. Try to poke and outsustain her and you wont have a bad time.

Summary

Sona is awesome and if played correctly unstopable.
