Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
On an uncharted continent beyond Valoran's grasping clutches, the conqueror named Olaf was born to a long tradition of soldiers unlike most others. Berserkers, as they tout themselves, are warriors who channel fury deep from their cores, unleashing pure and savage wrath upon their enemies. This fearsome evolution is a product of their unforgiving home, Lokfar - a barren tundra where all creatures must vie bitterly for every resource. Olaf belonged to a seafaring clan known for ruthlessly pillaging any and all villages within reach of their dragon-crested longboats. The last time he saw his icy home, Olaf was embarking on an expedition to pioneer and plunder a distant land known only to legend. However, while underway, a terrible storm sprung up and Olaf and his crew were thrown to the mercy of a roiling and pitiless sea.
His ship destroyed, his crew nowhere to be found, Olaf miraculously washed up untold miles from ''friendly'' waters on the foreign shores of Valoran, south of Demacia. This unfamiliar place stunned and frightened the Berserker, for Lokfar is not privy to such potent magicians. Approaching them, Olaf hoped that they could use their mysterious powers to send him back to his people. A bargain was struck. Olaf would use his awesome prowess as a warrior to serve the unusual wars of Valoran in the League of Legends, and in exchange the sorcerers would find him a way to return. Despite his participation in the League, Olaf knows better than to trust the ''finger wagglers'' that run the Institute of War. He deliberately keeps details of his life and home from them. After all, with enough information, they would most certainly find the Lokfarians and dominate them as they have dominated all of Valoran, keeping both quietly -- and unwittingly -- in their thrall.
Beware the war cry of the Berserker. What surges toward you is unyielding, free from the shackles of reason.
Well guys, since I've been playing LoL I always have liked the Hard Guys, those champions are true epic to play and Olaf is one of them. In this Guide I'll try to show you how to play Olaf as an Offtank-Dps, Pure Offtank and Insanedamage-tanky (and however, how to play Olaf well). I have mained Olaf since October, and I think I know enough things about him to show others how to play him, as long as this is an introduction I'll give you some rules which you have to follow EVERYTIME you play as Olaf, here they come:
You must be like a ****in crazy Vicking, this means you have to stay in the teamfight until you don't get killed by that *******-****.
Since your ulti makes you inmune to CC and gives you some damage reduction, you can charge into the teamfight to destroy that ****in squishy carry and run out their tanks with ghost.
Don't leave fight if you don't know if you're gonna survive, remember, into a 1vs1 or 2vs2, Olaf gets more powerfull when he is getting low life, so get some axes to them and them call Yorick.
Why Olaf, bro?
Olaf is a well-balanced champion who can resist an epic damage and deal the same amount of it, he is a great jungler and good on solotop thanks to and better of all... HE IS A VICKING, OMFG, A VICKING, THAT'S SO EPIC, I WANT HIM, I WANT HIM.
Olaf throws an axe to a target location, dealing 50 / 90 / 130 / 170 / 210 (+0.5 per attack damage) physical damage to units it passes through and slowing them by 24 / 28 / 32 / 36 / 40% for 2.5 seconds. If Olaf picks up the axe, the ability's cooldown is reduced by 6 seconds.
At first you won't like this skill, but it's so usefull when chasing someone, ganking, spamming in 1vs1, jungling, get sight on that suspicious brushes without getting ult'd by Malzahar. The nice use of this skill will diference an Olaf player and a good Olaf Player.
For 6 seconds, Olaf's attack damage is increased by 7 / 14 / 21 / 28 / 35 base damage plus 1% of his max health. While active, Olaf gains 9 / 12 / 15 / 18 / 21% lifesteal and spell vamp.
This is your main source of damage, giving you a nice lifesteal and AD , which will help you a lot in jungle or sololane. Max this first, it's a very nice skill
Olaf deals 100/160/220/280/340 True Damage to his target and 40/64/88/112/136 true damage to himself.
Nice nuke at early-mid game, DO NOT max first, it's not a great skill and you won't usually need it. HAHAHAHA just jockin' man, spam it, it's so funny since it only decrease your health and not your mana.
Active: For 6'5 seconds, Olaf is immune to disables and reduces incoming damage by 20/30/40. Passive: Olaf has 10/20/30 increased armour penetration.
Nice ult, I often use it for getting to their carry and getting all the CC on me, so my teammates can do their work.
Well, first you have to think that the builds in top of page are for situations with equilibrate teams, now I'll give you the items you MUST take as corebuild:
I don't put here mercs because in a strange team maybe any CC, but take mercs as a possibility.
Since Olaf doesn't have 3 Phantom Dancers or some speed burst you need a spammeable slow for chasing or simply for helping others to run. This items gives you a nice HP amount, some AD and a great passive.
Very important item for Olaf, your schales with HP, and the 2% of your HP plus to damage synergizes very well with it.
Do you remember that Leblanc ****ing destroying you with only a skill? That Amumu stunning all your team? That ****ing fed trynda? If you hate that situations, this is your chapter. Remeber, if you have troubles with some champion the items won't give you the win but a chance of beating them.
Much CC/Magic Damage:
Well, you can't eat oranges, so you'd pass a little bit CC for getting a carry down, these are the items that would help you:
Tenacity 35%, plus you won't have lotsa problems with an early hard CC like Amumu's or Leona's.
Nice MR, and some HP and Mana, get it when you are starting to hate some CC. It's an item that can save your life so much times in mid game.
Cheap, very nice MR, epic active, I don't always get this, but when I do my enemies derp.
That Trynda is ****in' annoying, let's destroy his game.
Since there're no dodge masteries and there won't be dodge runes, this is not so viable, but you can change it for the mercs if you preffer
Tankiness in pure state, ruin their AS and MS, get HP(so get damage). If you have this, try to get focused AFTER using the active, then your team can destroy them without hard job
Well, you have 3k-4k HP, 200 Armor and a great damage, the AD carries will probably run away from you.
Since offtanks are very usefull for a team you will see too much kinds of them, so get care with the items.
Great AS, great AD and very nice passive, this item is not so expensive and make's you a true destroying machine.
Is Morde raping you? Is that Ryze so annoying? Get this, the more hits you do, the more MR you have, and that ****in' AP offtank will be not so **********in'.
Since much offtanks are true epic in 1vs1 a 2nd life is not bad, you put on a very low HP, so you have a very high AS, with CD stuns up and no ulti they've found their destruction.
I use Olaf as a jungler everytime I can, his and give him a great survivality and fast jungling. The first 2 builds are for a jungler Olaf, this is the Jungling Route I use(smite only on buffs and drake):
Once I take the Red I go to their jungle and take their wolves if I know the other jungler is slower than me(Shen, Rammus),if he is not(GP, Lee Sin) or there's no jungler I go top for a fast gank or bot (if our carry is on trouble). After this I ALWAYS gank mid, if I don't kill him there's no problem, my AP carry can farm better, so I'm happy. Once you raise lvl 8 go to dragon, ward it with wriggle's active and get blue, then go kill dragon and back, you'll probably have lotsa gold, so rush mercs. After the first dragon, type in chat the minute of spawn for remembering later. Try to give all the kills to the carry and help to destroying towers everytime you can. Once the first tower has been destroyed you're not the jungler, you're a offtank, so get all the CC you can on you, go ahead behind the tank, and get all the kills you can.
