OLAF THE LORD OF THUNDER
Hi, welcome to my guide of Olaf.
In this guide I will present two different ways of playing Olaf, Both of which are effective and important. First of all you must understand what your team needs to choose between them. For example in ranked, you get to see who your teammates are and whom you are up against, so if there alot of squishes go for dmg,if you have too much squishes on your team go for semi tank build.

Undertow - Olaf throws an axe into the ground at a target location, dealing damage to units it passes through and slowing their movement speed. If Olaf picks up the axe, the ability's cooldown is reduced by 6 seconds.
Olaf throws an axe to a target location, dealing 65/110/155/200/245 (+) magic damage to units it passes through and slowing them by 24/28/32/36/40% for 2.5 seconds.
If Olaf picks up the axe, the ability's cooldown is reduced by 6 seconds.
-Ok this spell is not important, yes it does slow the target but getting true dmg and lifesteal is more important for a carry who only needs to farm. When you get your Frozen Mallet this is much more usefull, some might say it usefull to farm minions, but you lose alot of mana, and other spells prove to be much more usefull in a fight.
Vicious Strikes - Olaf's attack damage is increased, based on his health, and he gains massive lifesteal and spell vamp.
For 6 seconds, Olaf's attack damage is increased by (12/18/24/30/36 base damage plus 0.3/0.6/0.9/1.2/1.5% of his max health). While active, Olaf gains 9/12/15/18/21% lifesteal and spell vamp.
- This is your secondary spell use it often while farming and when u have low health. This gives you staying power so u can get your mandreds.
Reckless Swing - Olaf attacks with such force that it deals true damage to his target and himself.
Olaf deals 100/160/220/280/340 true damage to his target and inflicts 40/64/88/112/136 true damage to himself.
- This spell is your basic damage output, use it always in a fight unless you have really low health. To maximizes its benefits use viscous strike first then this spell. Max this out first as you become one of the ultimate tank killer.
Ragnarok - Olaf is immune to disables, has increased armor penetration and reduces incoming damage.
Active: For 5/6.5/8 seconds, Olaf is immune to disables and reduces incoming damage by 25/45/65.
- This is the spell that will help you achieve everything in battle, think of it as a super saiyen. When you need to run use it with ghost, when your fighting 1 on 1 use it for armor pen, and with leviathan at max stacks you pretty much impossible to kill.
Passive: Olaf has 10/20/30 increased armor penetration.
Berserker Rage - For each 1% of health missing, Olaf's attack speed is increased by 1%.
- Your passive is only usefull only when u stack health, so getting frozen is a must, staying with low life in a fight is a priority, have a kayle or janna does make it easier not to die.
Heal is one of those spells thats people tend to give up using. Yes its true, heal is not as uselfull as a flash, but with OLaf this different, think about it, a champion that cant get disabled,getting flash wont save your life with olaf as getting heal, first you can stay and fight without have to go back cuz of low health, second you can bait other champs, third (ITS A SECRET). I'll say it somewhere in my build.
This is a must for olaf, you can get rid of heal but you cant get rid of this, with your Ulti, this makes you like the Juggernaunt, ... Unstopable. Initiating in a team fight with those spells really screws up teams, and going for their carry and assasinating him 50 percent of the time stops the team from doing anything. This spell will save your *** alot and will make you really annoying.
Other spells:With this spell you don't have to follow my masteries, which seems at the moment a little messed up,but ill get to that later. With this you can go 9 in offense, and don't have to worry about exp and you can harass more often. With the tank I believe this is more useful spell because late game its all about the towers and back dooring, and Olaf is perfect for that when the time is right.
other spells:Ignite is also an OK spell, its useful on characters such as, Fiddle Sticks, Warwick, Vladamire, mundo and so on and those are the champ that can out last you in 1 on 1 fights. Other than that you can just avoid them and wait till late game to own them.
Other spells:This is a good spell for Olaf because it almost guarantees a kill when you gank unless they flash, but even so most character are shut down by this spell.Using it on a tyndamere or jax late game can save you and your squishy dps.
NOT GOOD SPELLs:This is worthless, especially at late game,Olaf doesnt have serious mana problems, if you are having mana problems you are using olaf wrong, for instant, you insist of getting your trowing axe first and then you spam it, well..... then your going to ahve mana problems and so you can use your lifesteal attack and so you will have to return to the base = Loss of money. And WE DONT WANT THAT. Your a CARRY YOU NEED MONEY.
NOT GOOD:Again getting a spell like cleanse is redundant, yes sometimes the same things work out but in this case your ultimate has a good cooldown and if you are going tank, your cooldown's will be maxed at 40 percent. So Dont get cleanse for Olaf.
The other spells like fortify and clairvoyance are useful but you should let the support use them. Your Main job is to shut down the dps or the carry and then take care of the tank, ALSO: if you are fed real bad early, getting a penta kill with Olaf is not hard at all.
MASTERIES and RUNES
Ok this part will be brief. As you can see my runes and masteries are pretty straight forward for both builds, The reason why i put no offense is with my armor penetration is enough for my regular attacks to get trough, and do a convient amount of dmg. For Offenseyou might ask why less dmg from minions, well This is one of the secrets, which is You can take golem without smite at lv 1. Thats right you dont have to worry about losing mana, and with your mana, you can use viscous strike over and over and so you get your life steal back. YOU CANT DO THIS WITH TANK BUILD!!!!!!! If you follow my runes and masteries you will be fine, just get cloth armor and 5 health pots and heal. head back to lane and life steal back to full health. With the tank build you can focus on harassing the opponent and geting out of exp range with your health runes this is easily done. Follow the masteries ts important in making my build shine.
ITEMS AND GAME PLAY
This is the important part, First of all you start withandtimes 5, Take blue, and lane till you accumulate about 1350 gold or more. Recall and getand.......
The cool thing about this is you leave laning about lv 5 and so your allie who is gonning to solo is gonna start out lving the enemies.(Not the case if you lave much later)Afterwards while jungle your main goal is to keep the balance towards your side, that means gank often and take enemies buffs. After getting enough gold getand lane for a bit or even organize a tower rush. From then on you buildand getfor the bonus lifesteal. Now you are already beefy and can take out almost anyone, and its important you stay in front of your squishy allies. Now you can go on to complete a really cheap item:. You can argue that getting this before frozen mallet is better but i prefer the frozen mallet because the slow is very useful in team fights.Now you want to complete yourand start. Getting to this point means either your super pro or everyone got fed and the game is nonsense. So if your rrly pro you get wardsand oracle:,,getting these itmes really do help and getting oracle even if they have no stealth helps destroy the enemies oracles (all you have to do is auto-attack them). And if the game still continues finish yourand for the last battle get all the elixirs()and the others too.
TIPS AND TRICKS
Now in this section I will give you some different items that are usefull.This is great it gives Olaf everthing that he need you can get rid of bloodthrister for this, only if you have melee characters in you team bur id you have ap then getting it wont benifit them that much.This is a great overall item for Olaf, works well with crit rune build and with infinty edge, but thats a wohle other build, only get this when you fight a squishy team.
If you noticed I HAVE NO MAGIC RESISTANCE, now its importnat to get especially against kassadin and vlad, those are the mage champs that can f you up pretty bad, for the tank build its covered, but for melee one you should get :, you can relace LEVIATHAN WITH THIS if you are having trouble with mages.
Olaf is not a hard champion to use, I haven't really given the details with the tank build, but only because with that build the only thing your suppose to do is farm and tank for your team.With the tank build you cant take the golem however it is easy to dominate a lane. At this point i will give you champions who you should lane with and who you should avoid laning with as a melee fighter.
You lane with these champs:
188.8.131.52.5 or evenare the mains that you want to be paired with, those with support abilities and stunning capabilities.
But you should avoid these ones:
184.108.40.206.Due to their ability to stand alone and kill minions easily you get no gold.
In the end you should focus on carrying the team, remember Olaf is strong but with support you can win most of the times.
