Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Rengar is one of my most played champions in the jungle, and personally my main.
I find him to be an exceptionally good champion at carrying games, but it takes alot of skil to master him to his full potential.
General idea of your playstyle
Rengar is tyically weak early if jungling, but can easilly stomp on the enemy team after he reaches a certain amount of kills.
1: Try your best to farm in the early game typically until level 6
2: Avoid ganking too early ex.(if you have finished your first jungle clear and are low on hp dont try to gank) thats mainly because a countergank from the opposing jungler can be devastating on the lane you ganked and might cause you to burn some smmoner spells if not dying.
3: Be patient, you'll get those kills once the time is right, do not gank early unless you see the perfect opportunity to get a kill for you or your laners.
4: It is important to farm until 6, when rengar hits his big powerspike and gets his ult, then he can start roaming to other lanes and gank successfuly.
5: Kills are important, but try not to get them all for yourself, it is crucial that you're not the only fed player on your team, as this wil result in the loss of gold for the rest of the lanes.
6: Late game is the stage where rengar absolutely dominates. Choose your targets carefully, typically you go for the adc or midlaner most of the time, bt if you get ahead, dont hesitate to go for tankier targets, as this build also focuses on armor pen, so you will be dealing a lot of damage to those tanks.
7: It is important to know who you can kill and not die. This is extremely important as your life might me more valuable than the person you killed.
8: In teamfights you dont need to act as the initiator, as you go full ad, so your real strenght is "cleaning up", pick off stranded targets, so the enemy team loses their main damage sources, meaning they cant do magor damage to your team.
Full cdr is a really good benefit for rengar as his ult is on a relatively low cd when he has full cdr, meaning he can pick off targets. In teamfights though the case is different, if you wate your ult it is crucial you move away unless you're sure you can kill an enemy of high value. In case you are on the side thats getting pushed try to harass with your e and try for a lucky snare, as it may allow your team to follow up and kill the target.
In general keep your distance from the fight, wait for the right time to ult and pick off the high priority targets (mid or adc most of the time), after that you can follow your team and maybe land a slow or snare that may secure a kill. Should you dive in a group of enemies, choose the "squishiest" and land your combo to take them out and run as soon as possible to avoid death.
I have found that 12/18 is a more viable option for more rengar players now than 18/12 because of the extra benefits of 45% cdr as well as the extra movement speed with your keystone masterie. This allows you to have really low cooldowns and be able to elimintae one of rengars' biggest weaknesses when he dives into a team when lacking an escape such as flash, as with the extra movement speed you should be able to run to safety immediately after a kil.
Even though you lose assured oneshot potential with these masteries it's much better to kill a target in 2 or three hits after your combo than dying immediately trying to execute one, this also gives you an "escape window" as you can run away if you are unable to continue.
Even though you lose damage due to the fact you dont have 18 points in the offense tree doesnt mean rengar cant reach 400+ damage which is easilly able to still do heavy damage to high priority targets.
Your runes allow you to take down tanks relatively easilly with armor penetration being a key focus of not only your runes but your masteries as well. Having max cdr is really usefull on rengar, allowing you to substitute items that give cooldown reduction for damage heavy items that wil increase your oneshot potential.
When it comes to items you need to rely on a heavy damage build that has offensive items that will give you survivability ( such as death's dance or trinity force) which will as well limit your death count and increase your damage in coordination with your masteries, which will make you kind of an off tank assasin, that will dish out much damage and keep you alive.
All in all rengar is a really fun champion that has a lot of carry potential.
With this guide i hope to teach you the basics of rengar and what from my experience and preference is the best way to play him.
Thank you all for reading my guide and i hope you have tons of fun with this champion.
Happy hunting :)
