Introduction

Welcome to my Orianna guide. In this guide I will cover a wide variety of things about Orianna from before the game starts, beginning of the game, middle of the game, and of course late game (if you haven't crushed your enemies yet). Orianna fits well into the current meta. She can farm easily without being zoned, harass enemies, protect herself, and does tons of damage while almost never being in danger of dying. I will go in depth with this guide to try and help you understand the advantages and disadvantages of playing Orianna.

Runes

You can swap out the yellows with Scaling Health or even mix the two with 5 flat and 4 scaling. I prefer early game survival and winning, therefor I go with flat.
Hybrid Pen reds go well with Orianna for two reasons. Her abilities scale well with magic pen. Her passive makes her auto attacks deal more damage, in turn making armor pen more effective.
If you aren't auto attacking minions and you are safe, you should be attaching the enemy champion.

Masteries

The masteries shown are very standard for most ranged mid laners. I cannot think of any reason to go utility or to change anything within the masteries.

Items

Orianna is very mana hungry throughout the game. Getting an early chalice will make sure you can push when needed, harass when available, and protect yourself as required. I prefer what is called the "poor man's build" for Orianna, which is chalice, sorc shoes, and void staff. When you get void staff it makes you burst harder than a needlessly large rod would. It also makes it harder for people to build against you for the first 30 minutes of the game. After getting your main items athene's, Sorc shoes, and void staff you must determine you next item on how well you are doing. If you are excelling in lane and your team is doing well then you will want more damage like a deathcap. If you or your team are doing bad a hourglass will definitely help.

Skill Sequence

I prefer to start with Q to help poke, farm, and check bushes. You can start E, however I would not recommend it. You shouldn't get poked down at level 1 enough to need E. Also as you will see I max Q. If you are being harassed by the enemy or you are being camped put points into E to save yourself.

Spells

Orianna's passive is very powerful and helps her out-trade most champions early. This allows Orianna to farm easier with auto attacks and harass harder. It also stacks making her passive deal 20% more damage to the same target. If you have lich bane you can auto attack for the stack, Q for the damage plus lich bane proc, then auto attack again for maximum damage.

Orianna's Q allows her to check brushes from safety, harass the enemy, zone the enemy, and farm easily. Placement of the ball is critical and will be discussed further down in details.

Orianna's W is her next main source of damage. A quick Q W can chunk enemies and make them think twice about fighting. W has a high utility value as well with its damage. It can slow enemies, speed up allies, and of course do tons of damage.

Orianna's E is very useful and is used for more than just a shield. Her E makes whoever a "ball carrier". If you E to someone like Malphite then ult right after he ults you can land a massive ultimate combo. The E allows you to bring the ball back to you right after you send if forward with a Q. This will allow you to either W to catch up/run away and will also allow you to use your ultimate on top of you if you are being dived.

Orianna's ultimate is what makes or breaks a team after the laning phase ends. Orianna is one of few champions that can almost single-handedly carry a game and it is because of her ult that she can. Don't be trigger happy with her ult, it is better to wait a couple extra seconds to make sure you catch 3+ people than to waste it on one.

Summary

In lane Orianna is a bully versus most champions. Her Q W pushes lane very quickly and can allow for a roam or a safe back. Her E protects her against harass. Her ult destroys enemies and disrupts them (ex: Vel'Koz and Lucian ults). She is one of the best mid lane champions in solo queue at the moment. The reason Orianna is such a threat early is her pure lane dominance against most champions. If you can't destroy them, then you can sit back and farm safely with Q W. Her control over objectives is also very powerful. If the enemy team wants to take a tower, you place your ball towards the center of them (preferably in front of your tower) and make them sweat. Dragon/Baron pit is a deathtrap versus Orianna. If you place your ball just right you can destroy the enemies almost solo. Late game after everyone gets Banshee's, Orianna's Q can take off Banshee's very easily and from a safe distance. Once those are gone E to your "ball carrier" and win game.

Champions

As long as you dodge her E and Q this is a very easy match. If you don't you will lose. Also she is just hard to hit your ult without hard CC.

You will have to harass her down early and prevent her farming without getting ganked and set behind. Once she hit's 6 without hard CC you will not land an ult on her.

This guy...He is hard to hit with any spells. He is hard to kill and he will kill you easily. You must try to harass level 1-5 and protect yourself when he engages. Try to stay safe and don't feed him. Wait for your jungler to help kill him.

Easy to harass. Use E to protect yourself when he uses Q. Poke him down and push hard. Keep vision up, his jungler will want him to snowball or he will roam when he can. Once he starts he won't stop...

Very slippery however when she all ins you E then R. She will have to jump to you then she has no escape and you stopped her ult. Should be free kill from then. Easy to harass early just tread lightly.

This is a skill match up. If you dodge her Q you win. If you don't you lose. Very simple.

Easy match up. You can easily beat him early. As long as he doesn't roam and pick up kills you will have him. Harass hard and make him back early.

Fairly even match. Dodge what you can E what you can't. Harass when he slows himself with Q W.
