Cleanse

Introduction

Hello! This is my first guide and any criticism and comments would be greatly appreciated. This guide and build is all about how to play my favorite Champion as a tank; Mordekaiser. Mordekaiser has a great capacity to tank and be nigh unkillable if played correctly and paired with the correct items. Mordekaiser as a tank is extremely viable for all kinds of play be it ranked or co-op vs AI. I hope you enjoy playing this champion as much as I do and add him to your avaiable list.

Summoner Spells

Cleanse and Ghost are my summoner spells of choice for tanking as Mordekaiser. Cleanse is best used saved for team fights so that when they burn all their CC on you, you can just pop it off with one skill and get back to pwning face. Ghost is great because it gives you an escape and it lets you run people down who are making a break for their turret. Early game is when ghost shines most though, you can make a crazy tower dive and run away to safety with just 20 health remaining.

Masteries

For tanking I obviously chose the defense tree. Evasion was simply chosen as a filler talent so that you could progress into the final selections that this tree has to offer for Mordekaiser and they are indeed fantastic. A flat increase to your health pool is fantastic and reduced time on cleanse is also very handy. Increased ability power and attack speed is also fantastic. This gives Mordekaiser a little bit of pushing power and increases the damage that all his abilities will be doing so that increases your damage output and also increases the rate at which your shield charges.

Runes

For my runes I chose 9 Greater Marks of Insight 9 Greater Seals of Resilience and 9 Greater Glyphs of Wasrding. For my Quintessences I chose 3 Greater Quintessences of Potency . The reason behind the insight and potency quintessence and marks if for very early game. These will give you a good bit of damage to throw around with Siphon of Destruction and Creeping Death which will help you charge your shield faster. I have found that in early game champions can flee to their turrets with just shards of health left so that extra bit of power early is all that can stand from you gaining first blood, or not getting the kill.

Items

For items I chose; Mercury's Treads, Force of Nature, Warmog's Armor, Thornmail, Rylai's Crystal Scepter, and Banshee's veil. The treads gives you some flat magic resist which is good for a tank and the reduced CC reduction is great, especially if they are CC heavy. Force of nature was choosen for teams that give you a lot of flak about AP champions and the health regen and movement speed are also handy. Warmog's was the solid choice for the huge amount of health this thing gives you, with your armor and magic resistance going to be so high even if they do damage and get through you're shield its gonna take a while for you to fall. Thornmail was a definite choice because this item is a god against champions such as Tryndamere, Master Yi, and Teemo if he/she goes attack speed/AD. I've had a Tryndamere kill himself just from the massive amount of damage that gets reflected back onto him. Rylai's was a solid choice for the health bonus and a slow which is great with Creeping Death. This lets you keep your friends close but your enemies close. And finally Banshee's Veil. This item is great because of the on e spell absorbtion. This can mean for life or death for your team in a big team fight. Nunu is charging his ultimate? lolgtfo nub.

Skill Sequence

Siphon of Destruction is going to be your main source for gaining both your shield and doing damage. The conal area seems to hit slightly further then the area it shows and the more things it hits, the more shield you get. Creeping Death is fantastic for farming and especially when a champion is running away on his last legs. Paired with Rylai's Crystal Scepter that ability makes for one mean AoE aura that gives melee a champions a serious scare. Mace of Spades is the final basic move that you level up. You should be getting enough assists from tanking for your team that you shouldn't need the one big hit that it gives and although it can generate a lot of armor, it is a shadow of siphon's ability. Finally we have Children of the Grave. This is an absolutely astounding ultimate. This has saved me on more then one occasion and has turned the tide of a battle just as many times. Throw this puppy on a carry with low health and watch the 5v5 turn into a 6v4. Hell, this is good for just ganking a guy, killing him, then pushing on their tower seeing how it adds their own stats plus some, and it makes you stronger as well.

Summary

That sums up my run down for Mordekaiser. This brutal dude has great tanking ability and hits like a truck. He is nigh impossible to kill when used smartly and paired with the right items. He can carry a team to victory with ease and can simply be an extremely enjoyable champion to play. Mordekaiser should be one of the champions you purchase and use often. He can do many things such as tank (listed above :P) he can be a glass cannon; if built with AP items in mind; and he is overall just plain awesome
