Kill him at levels 1-4 and you will win the lane. If he gets to farm without dying, it becomes hard to kill him. Roam if this happens.
Akali
Riven's early game destroys Akali. Snowball your advantage and pressure her early. Be careful of her level 9 power spike.
Cho'Gath
Ask jungler for ganks and pressure early as much as possible. His silence negates a lot of your trade potential, so try to bate it out.
Darius
Take a point in E at level 1 and ask jungler for ganks. Your level 9 power spike is when you out damage him. If you struggle in the lane, put 3 points into E before maxing Q.
Dr. Mundo
Abuse him early, there is no point in the game where he should be able to kill you. After a while he becomes too tanky to kill him, so don't be baited by his deceiving tankiness.
Fiora
Whoever gets first kill wins the lane, ask jungler to gank EXTREMELY early.
Garen
Holy hell, this matchup is such a pain in the booty. Only trade with him after his Q is down, but farm till level 9.
Gnar
W to stop his E, E whenever he Q's. Wait for Mega Gnar to go down then all in him.
Hecarim
Abuse him early, after he gets Homeguard boots, he will out trade you.
Irelia
She can disengage your damage easily, then all in you. Wait for her E to go down before all inning her.
Jarvan IV
Dodge his E-> Q, then all in him. Careful for his level 6 powerspike.
Jax
Bait out his dodge, then all in him. Unless you are fed, don't all in him after he has trinity force.
Jayce
Use your E to dodge his E->Q, all in him when its on cooldown if he misses.
Kayle
She wins with poke early, at 2-4 try to abuse her a lot but be careful to not get killed. After 6, bait out her ult then all in her with your ult.
Kennen
If you try to all in him, he just runs away or stuns you. Ask jungler for help.
Lissandra
She can disengage you relatively easy, abuse her levels 2-3. She wins after 6 if you haven't snowballed.
Lulu
You cannot kill her after 6 unless you are fed, abuse her early, use your E to negate damage from her Q.
Malphite
Abuse him early, get a cheesy kill on him at level 3. I always take ignite in this matchup. E his Q.
Maokai
If he W's into you, don't be scared to trade him. E when you see him start to W you to negate a lot of his damage
Nasus
He can't do anything to you till 200+ stacks. Use this time window to kill him a lot and snowball the lane.
Nidalee
When she pounces on you all in her, try not to get hit by spears. (duhhh)
Olaf
He outtrades you early, try to stall for damage before all inning him. After your hydra, you can win trades but it is a tricky matchup.
Pantheon
He destroys you early, farm and play safe. Beg for ganks.
Poppy
Abuse her early before her level 6 power spike. Not too hard of a lane. E into her charge.
Quinn
All in her when her blind is down. Careful of her bildgewater + level 6 spike.
Renekton
Take a point in E and stall out your level 6. Ask for ganks once you get ult.
Rengar
When he jumps on you or cs, all in him. You win early. Careful for his level 9 ult in spike.
Rumble
Dodge his mid game damage, abuse him early. You should be able to snowball this match up easily.
Ryze
All in him levels 1 - 7, Ryze needs items to be relevant. Riven excells in this match up, dont be scared of him.
Shen
Abuse him early, he will play passive. After level 9 be careful for his poke and disengage.
Shyvana
She is terrible until level 5, abuse her in the first 5 levels.
Singed
Kill him early when he goes to gas the wave, don't chase him after level 7, he will be too tanky to kill and can bait you into dangerous scenarios.
Sion
He is super tanky, focus on farm and ask jungler to gank to kill him.
Swain
All in him at early levels, abuse the match up and E his dot. It is fairly easy.
Trundle
Fight him early on and be careful of his level 6 spike. You don't go tank, so his ult is not very effective on you but he has a lot of sustain.
Tryndamere
Bait his E and all in him afterwards. When he hits 6, ask jungler to gank to get his ult then kill him while it's down.
Vladimir
He is strong at 9, Riven is strong from level 1. All in him every time you get the chance before his power spike at 9.
Wukong
He does extremely high damage early, use your E to negate some damage from his combo then combo him while his is down.
Yasuo
Abuse him early, he cannot out trade you until he hits 3 items.
Hello everyone! I have mained Riven for about 2 seasons now and have gone through her extensive changes throughout season 3. I think that she is in a relatively good spot but has a slow early game that I will go over with you.
Runes
Runes
The runes for Riven are very selective, depending on what you want to do. I normally go lifesteal quints for the early game sustain if you want to go dorans blade, but you could replace that with physical damage quints if you want to go dorans shield. Other than that, the rest are just standard and should be played how they are.

I highly recommend learning how to animation cancel with Riven before playing her competitively. It makes your combo much faster and damage output much higher. If you go to YouTube, type in animation canceling with Riven, you should find some very extensive guides that are very explanatory. (It's hard to show without video T.T)

Your basic poke combo is going to be Q>AA>Q>AA>Q>AA>W>AA>E away. Your all in combo is E>R>W>>AA>Q>AA>Q>AA>Q>AA>AA>Windslash. You can hit E then R immediately after to cancel their animations.
