Mastery Tree Is Outdated
WARNING: These masteries are still using the old tree and have not been updated to the new tree by the guide author. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Masteries
SO THE UPDATE ??
Most importantly I have added the AP
Varus build to the guide .
A few changes in the AD
Varus build , as I've came to realize
Varus needs Critical Damage and Critical Strike Chance , so I added
Infinity Edge and removed
Randuin's Omen
I have removed the armor and slow because
Varus Ultimate Ability
Chain of Corruption immobilizes enemies , and
Varus is not supposed to be in front of the battle
, and he is more than enough able to handle an one-on-one , fighting or fleeing . Do note that
Varus is not to be played solo in mid game and late game , as he really needs his teams support to be at his best , and
Varus is likely to be ganked if left alone.
Introduction
You have made a good decision to improve your knowledge on
Varus .
You will see that the AP
Varus build contains Guinsoo's Ragebade that gives Ability Power . Why ?? It is all explained in Skill Sequence . This build is also not a guide on playing
Varus , for that you'll need practice and experience , although his Abilities is explained in Skill Sequence .
Furthermore , have fun :)
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE YOU ASK ?
AD
Varus build is used when the team needs an AD Carry champion to do a huge amount of damage in team fights , but cannot handle allot of damage .
AP
Varus is for weakening Tanks and complimenting the teams AD Carry because you weaken the Armor of Tanks , and stressing the enemy to buy Magic Resistance , therefor losing the chance to buy Attack Damage or Ability Power
Pros / Cons
AD
Varus's PROS
* HUGE AMOUNT OF RANGED DAMAGE ( AD CARRY )
* Master Crowd Controller
* Good Harassing
* Farmer ( NEEDS TO LAST HIT )
AD
Varus's CONS
* Gold dependent
* Easy target
* Team / Tower dependent
AP
Varus's PROS
* Low Cooldown time
* Master Crowd Controller
* Good Harassing
* Farmer ( NEEDS TO LAST HIT )
* Less Gold dependent
* End Game Carry
* Easy to Assure Kills
AP
Varus's CONS
* Still easy target
* Slow Casting Abilities
*
Runes
My choice of
Runes
is selected from different other builds , which I am thankful of as I don't have much experience in
Runes
. Please do comment on other possible
Runes
selections , and add a motivation why you picked those
Runes
.
I would like to add that the
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed is very helpful to make sure enemies stay close , or far away . Although I only recommend
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed for the AP
Varus
Here is a clip how
Ryze ( which I also adore to play ) got a free kill just by having enough movement speed .
Masteries
Ahhh Masteries...
AD
Varus
I chose a 21 8 1 to max out AD and armor for early and late game support .
I found a few times that
Varus did not have enough Health and was easy to kill , espessialy if your team lacks a Tank or your focused too much.
Instead of
Summoner's Insight
,
Veteran's Scars
can be chosen.
AP
Varus
The ruins chosen here helps the AD side of
Items ( NOT YET UPDATED )
At last the important part !!
It may be weird seeing AP in an AD build... but Varus's most powerful ability is Blighted Quiver . Working almost like Teemo's poison , Blight releases it's Damage when the enemy champion is Hit by any other of his abilities , that's where the bonus AP comes in to make sure your enemy does not come away . Or use it as bonus Damage when escaping from enemy and slowing them with Hail of Arrows.
Now for the build sequence :
EARLY GAME
Start off with a Doran's Blade . Following the Berserker's Greaves .
MID GAME
When you are pushing and farming like a maniac buy a Pickaxe , followed by a Dagger and then the key item Guinsoo's Rageblade.
Farm a few minions to buy a Zeal , followed by Malady .
When you are not doing and farming that well , buy Heart of Gold and 2 Daggers so that you can farm . Otherwise replace the 2 Daggers for a Pickaxe so that you can hurt enemy . Afterwards buy Randuin's Omen if your still hurt to much and being pushed . Otherwise get your Guinsoo's Rageblade done with , followed by the Malady and then Zeal.
LATE GAME
By late game I mean almost winning it.
Buy The Bloodthirster first so that you can stay in battle , or help slay Baron .
It is even sometimes good to buy your Vampiric Scepter after you bought Guinsoo's Rageblade to stay longer in battle , although I've found it to run out of space for items , but please do so if your making money quick . NEXT finish your Phantom Dancer , ending with Randuin's Omen when the enemy team realize they have to focus you .
Passive
Remember that your Passive
Living Vengeancelet you gain 20 % Attack Speed on minion kills for 3 seconds , and on Champion kills you receive 40 % Attack Speed for 6 seconds .
THEREFOR , get this buffs to take down enemies and turrets , for example , kill a minion before attacking turrets and enemies !!
Skill Sequence
POKE POKE POKE , the secret to
Varus.
Basic stuff , POKE the enemy at first with basic attacks , then use your abilities regarding on situation :
One on one
, POKE 3 times and Stun with
Chain of Corruption . POKE 3 times and slow with
Hail of Arrows . POKE ( if still not dead ) and finish off with
Piercing Arrow .
Team Fights
. In team fights be sure your not in the front . Using
Chain of Corruption you immobilize an enemy for 2 seconds and dealing damage , then the Chain spreads to another nearby uninfected enemy dealing the same damage and immobilizing for 2 seconds . So , in team fights make sure to POKE as much enemies at a time with Basic Attacks , and follow the same procedure than in a Solo Fight .
Remember to use
Surge to increase your Attack Speed , BUT DON'T waste it
, max Attack Speed is 2.500 and with your passive and Guinsoo's Rageblade buff you would not need any more Attack Speed .
Summary
IMPORTANT!!
This is not a playing guide for newbies , but rather a guide owning with
Have fun and always support your team , in game play and communication .
