Hello LOL-Community!

I'm not a native English speaker, but I tried to write this guide wihout errors. If you have found something pm me ;)
My Elo is currently 1539 (Season 2). Stopped playing ranked a month ago after i reached 1500+ because i just wanted to have that janna skin. I am sure i could reach a higher elo without problems, but i didnt try.

This is my second guide. My first guide was about Evelynn - Jungle Pre-Rework. It was almost the only guide which showed how to play Evelynn without failing.



I tested a lot(I mean: A LOT) around and to summarize my experiences and cognitions:

AP = very bad, needs farm you will never get (like 300 creeps)...

TANK = bad, other do a much better job (rarely good situations for your stun and unreliable in teamfights)

AD = PERFECT, you pown your enemies

There is no better way to play Poppy in a classic game:

Marks:

9 Armor Penetration + 5.1 Magic Penetration: I really recommend you these, because we deal much Magic Damage with our Q & E and we have Bonus AD with our W. Also the fact that we play AD Poppy supports this choice^^


Alternative:


5x/6x SPA + SP 4x/3x
Greater Mark of Desolation 8.3/10 Armor Penetration + 3.8/2.8 Magic Penetration: If you do not have 9x Greater Mark of Hybrid Penetration then you could mix your flat Penetration marks, which I only support when you want to try out my guide but still do not have enough IP to buy 9x Greater Mark of Hybrid Penetration...


Not recommended:


9x
Greater Mark of Desolation 15 Armor Penetration: Missing Magic Penetration hurts a bit...

8.5 Attack damage: We get more from Penetration marks than from Attack damage marks...

15% Attack Speed: These are even worse than flat Attack Damage marks...


Do NOT use at all:

8.5 Magic Penetration: Missing Armor Penetration hurts much more.

8.4% Crit Chance: 8.4% is like having to hit 11 times until you land possibly a critical hit... It is almost like you have no marks at all.


Seals:

Greater Seal of Vitality 175 Health at level 18: This helps us to be more tanky late game! Generally the best choice for Poppy.


Recommended Alternative:


9x
Greater Seal of Regeneration ~ 18 Health Regeneration at level 18: I like these a lot additionally to Philosopher's Stone... The problem is that these runes are very special and that you should use them only if you can rely on your team...

Alternative:

13 Armor: Sometimes more Armor (additionally to our W Ability and to the fact that poppy has the highest base armor of all champs at level 18) is great, but it won't help you much against champions like Darius or Cho'Gath...


Glyphs:

24.3 Magic Resistance at level 18: I would never change this, because it is too strong!

Alternative:


5x SPA + SP 4x
6.7 Magic Resistance + 10.8 Magic Resistance at level 18: There is always the possibility that you face an Ap Champ Solo Top and for that reason this combination is just great.


Quints:

4.5% Movement Speed: We need that mobility to survive early game^^


Alternative:

78 Health: This helps also surviving early game, but I prefer Bonus Movement Speed which will help us through the whole game!

14 Offense:


1x Summoner's Wrath : Improved Ignite and Ghost!

3x Brute Force : More Damage!

4x Alacrity : Needed for Weapon Expertise ...

1x Weapon Expertise : Great and fitting for my runes.

4x Sorcery : I like that CDR.

1x Arcane Knowledge : Perfect for increased damage on Devastating Blow and Heroic Charge.


16 Defense:



3x Hardiness : Nice vs AD :)

3x Resistance : Nice vs AP :P

4x Durability : Having more Health is always nice.

1x Veteran's Scars : More Health^^

2x Indomitable : This helps against much Harass.

3x Enlightenment : This CDR for late game is almost a must have^^

Alternative:


You should take 2x Tough Skin instead 2x Resistance when you play against Yorick. And pls dont tell me now that you would not change this because Yorick deals also some magic damage..... Every normal Yorick player plays AD Offtank with Yorick... And it reduces the damage from all ghoul types, that means less magic damage and less physical damage.

Items

Recommended Item Build:


Starting Items:


Boots of Speed and 3x Health Potion, then Sheen and 1 or 2 Gp10 Items...
If you dominate your enemy, then continue dominating him and dont buy any gold item! It is very important that you use your advantage, always.
In an even matched situation you should get just 1 gold item.


Core Items:

Perfect when they have much CC. Generally a good choice. Oherwise take Ninja Tabi.
A must have on AD Poppy.
This is going to improve... everything we need :P.
I love this item. Makes running away from you almost impossible!
Very nice utility and some extra Health which will let us fight longer and deal more damage^^ The best about this is that we will forget about mana problems late game and we will be able to engage for the whole team with less risks!

After you finished Trinity it is very important to think about your situation and about your teams situation and then to decide whether you buy more offensive items at this point... Sometimes it can be fatal to continue with offensive items at this point... That is why i am warning you. Often it is enough to buy a Zeal and then Magic Resistance, Armor or Mana & Health ( Catalyst the Protector). Whatever you need. Only if you dominate almost everbody then go more offensive. That would mean that you get PD and then you get one of the offensive final items.

The Final Item:


You can decide between one of these items:
Whenever you need Lifesteal and much AD^^ But there is not often a situation for good use of this. Only if they have lots of MR, and less armor...
Overkill!!! Imba damage.
Whenever you need speelvamp, lifesteal, ap and ad. It is a very good item on poppy, which will help you in a balanced match.
You think you have enough damage? Then get more armor, mr and a nice ability^^
A second PD ;) You want to be super fast and you want them to go crazy? Take this! ;D

I prefer imba damage, that's why I take IE most times.

Pros & Cons

Pros:


Poppy is one of the best late game champs out there!
Poppy kills the enemy ADC in one second and after that everyone else :P!!!!!!
Diplomatic Immunity is one of the best ultimates in the game!
Players often underestimate Poppy.... :) Gonna pown them to show them some true power ;D
Poppy runs alone into 5, then kills 1 or 2 and after that runs away with full health XD


Cons:


Weak Early Game
No Farm = Dead Poppy
Poppy is very weak against heavy cc team compositions => especially slows :(
Players often underestimate Poppy and say that she is useless etc...

Summoner Spells

Recommended Spells:


Ghost / Ignite
Why Ghost? Because of SPEED.
Why Ignite? Because of DAMAGE.... Just combinate it with your ultimate MUAHAHAHAH


Recommended but not optimal:


Exhaust / Flash
Why Exhaust? They have lots of AD Champs? Then exhaust is a must take.
Why Flash? Because you like it. XD


Conditionally recommended:


Cleanse / Teleport
Why Cleanse? You remember what i said about Poppy's weakness?... :)
Why Teleport? You want to power farm? You are new with Poppy? Then take it.
