Normally, one may see Poppy as AP, but I decided Attack Damage because not only are you capable of taking a beating, but can initiate and take characters especially tanks while auto attacking with ease. Her ult adds to the uberness of her special ability of taking down anyone who comes in your way and wasting their skills upon you while you take each enemy one by one. Herself is a one man army. (How to Lane)
Grab a Vamp Scept. Her W's passive will be your Attack Damage and Armor which grabs your health back up easily. Do not waste many spells trying to attack the enemy, and last hit minions as much as possible. Can't stress this enough.

(Team Fights)
Here's the fun! Poppy can initiate.
1st) Ult the Non-CC Character. Makes you unstoppable by the rest which want to focus you.
2nd) W in making your Attack Damage increase as well as Armor and Speed.
3rd) Slam that enemy carry and beat em' up!
4th) Life steal will keep you in and remain fighting.

Recap:
Although Poppy looks like an AP Character, personally, she's supposed to be a TANK. Their are Pros and Cons being an AP vs AD. In High ELO, people are getting Merc Treads for survivability anyways and Magic Resist. Hardly you see Thornmail anymore and Poppy using Attack Damage will surprise the enemy. She can take out tanks! 1v1 will be simple with your Ult capable of increasing damage and your stun making you slam slam slam. Taking out Dragon and Baron = GG

AD Pros:
- Auto-Attacking
- Tank
- Initiates
- Can jungle with no problem
- Lane's easily

AD Cons:
- Can't nuke
- Auto-Attacking (Yes. It's a con) It can be counter-able with blind.

AP Pros:
- Nukes

AP Cons:
- In and Out. Annoying and useless if not fed.
- Squishy
- Get's harassed and no amount of healing
