Introduction

Hello! I'm Heavenly Dolphin, a huge fan of Yasuo and I have been playing him for quite a while. Yasuo has always been one of my favorite champions and probably always will be. He has great out play potential, snowballs ridiculously hard, and has amazing team fighting ability. With lots of practice you will be getting Pentakills in no time! This is my first guide on Mobafire so please leave feedback in the comments. Enjoy!

Abilities

Yasuo has a very strong kit and all of his abilities are very strong in lane and in 1v1's.

Yasuo's passive is Way of the Wanderer

INTENT: Yasuo's critical strike chance is doubled, but the damage dealt by his critical strikes is reduced by 10% (25% on Steel Tempest ).
RESOLVE: At maximum Flow, the next instance of damage coming from a champion or monster against Yasuo will first convert his Flow into an absorption shield. After 1 second, if not already depleted, the shield dissipates and Yasuo loses all his Flow.

This passive is very useful as it can be used in two ways. The first part of Yasuo's passive, where he gains double crit chance, is one of the main reasons why I build Infinity Edge on Yasuo. Because he does so well when he has critical chance. Yasuo's other passive, gives him a damage absorbing shield when he has maximum flow. This is really good for all-ins and can save you from death. You gain flow from moving around so if you are about to all-in your enemy, it is a good idea to stack up your flow before you engage.

The first ability that Yasuo has is his Q, Steel Tempest

FIRST AND SECOND CAST: Yasuo thrusts forward with his sword, dealing 20/40/60/80/100 (+100% AD) physical damage to all enemies in a line. Successfully landing Steel Tempest grants Yasuo Gathering Storm stacks for 10 seconds.

THIRD CAST: The third stack of Gathering Storm causes Steel Tempest to send out a whirlwind that travels in a line of 900 range and sends all enemies caught Airborne.
If Yasuo casts Steel Tempest during Sweeping Blade, the ability strikes all enemies immediately around him, having a radius of 375 instead.

Steel tempest can critical strike and apply on hit effects for the first 475 range. The ability is also unaffected by cool-down reduction, instead, the cool-down and cast time is reduced by Yasuo's attack speed.

This ability is one of Yasuo's most important ones, which is why I max it first. It is great for farming in lane and harassing your enemies, and the cool-down isn't that high, especially when leveled up. You should use your Steel Tempest all the time to farm because it can go through multiple minions, and the third Steel Tempest is a tornado, which is great for harassing, farming, and using your Last Breath.

The second ability Yasuo has is his W, Wind Wall

Passive: Dashing replenishes Yasuo's Flow faster for 4/8/12/16/20% of his maximum flow
Active: Yasuo creates a wall of wind with a width of 300/350/400/450/500, that slowly drifts forward for 3.75 seconds. The wall blocks all enemy projectiles except tower hits.

This ability is also one of the most useful abilities in the game. Wind Wall blocks all enemy projectiles, including tons of ultimate abilities like, Super Mega Death Rocket!, Enchanted Crystal Arrow, Trueshot Barrage, and much more. A Great way to put your enemies behind in farm is cast Wind Wall right in-front of your minions under their turret to prevent them from farming. Remember when escaping that Wind Wall casts a little bit in-front of you so don't turn around and Wind Wall, I recommend casting Wind Wall in-front of yourself and then running into it as this saves time and will definitely block your enemies projectile ability. When roaming bot lane to try to kill the ADC, always cast Wind Wall in-front of you in order to take out all of there damage and avoid kiting.

Yasuo's 3rd ability is his E, Sweeping Blade

Yasuo dashes a fixed distance through an enemy, dealing 70/90/110/130/150 (+60% AP) magic damage and marking them briefly. If Yasuo uses Sweeping Blade multiple times in succession, the ability deals extra 25% damage with a 100% bonus maximum. When sweeping blade is casted on a target, the target will get marked for 10/9/8/7/6 seconds. Yasuo cannot use Sweeping Blade on an enemy that's already been marked.

This is such a versatile and useful ability, and can be used in many ways, gap closing as shown below, farming, harass, escapes, and so much more. The one thing I used to always forget about when playing Yasuo is his empowered Sweeping Blade that does an extra 25% more damage. This is very, very important. For killing, farming and initiating. This ability is also useful when harassing. A good pattern is to Sweeping Blade through there minions, Steel Tempest AA, and then Sweeping Blade safely back. This is very hard to play against and is very annoying to the enemy laner. When catching or chasing an enemy, Sweeping Blade through an incoming wave to catch up to them. Rarely, I have seen some Yasuo's not know the Sweeping Blade Steel Tempest combo. When cast at the same time, Steel Tempest goes into a circle. This is very good for wave clearing and harassing. It also gives you a higher chance of getting a Steel Tempest stack.

Yasuo's Last Breath is his Ultimate Ability

Yasuo teleports to a nearby Airborne enemy champion. Upon arrival, he suspends all airborne units within a 400-radius of his target in the air for 1 second while 200/300/400 (+150% bonus AD) physical damage them. Once he lands, Yasuo gains 50% armor penetration against his enemy's bonus armor for 15 seconds.

This ability is very hard to land and can completely change the whole game. The most important thing about this ability is that after Yasuo lands, he gains 50% armor penetration for 15 seconds. This is very good in team fights and great for killing multiple people. When an enemy is knocked up, there will be white lines as shown below. When the white lines appear that means the target is airborne and you can ult of this. You need to know when to ult and when not to ult, because once you press R, there is no canceling, and you could have just ulted yourself into a terrible situation. You also have to remember that even though you see the white lines in the air, sometimes you are not in range to Last Breath. In a 1v1, if you are close to the enemy and you have your third Steel Tempest you can Sweeping Blade onto them while pressing q to knock them up no matter what. This ensures that you can ult and is very good if you are close to the enemy. Whenever you Steel Tempest tornado into multiple people, make sure you wait to ult until every person is knocked up, because if you press r too soon, you will only Last Breath one person. Keep in mind that Last Breath can be cast off of another team mate's knock-up, and there are many champions who have this ability. One very important thing to know is when you knock up someone with Steel Tempest you can do one auto attack while they are still in the air, and then Last Breath. This maximizes your damage output and can be the difference between killing them and not killing them. A trick I like to do when trying to kill someone is I ignite them while I'm in the air for Last Breath to ensure I get the kill.

Items

Yasuo overall has great core items that help him a lot all through out the game. There are some items you can swap out with others depending on the enemy team comp.

Core

Statikk Shiv is the first item you should buy on Yasuo. It has a great bonus with the critical chance, and is very good for farming and doing AoE damage. Statikk Shiv is definitely a must have for Yasuo, as it works so well with him. Especially since his Steel Tempest counts as an AA, so it will apply to Statikk Shiv

Infinity Edge is another great item on Yasuo that you can buy after Statikk Shiv. It gives a lot of crit chance especially with your passive, that doubles it. You can either buy IE after Statikk Shiv, or after Blade of the Ruined King. Only go for IE if you are doing very well in lane and you know you will be able to get more gold. I normally get Blade of the Ruined King second because the life steal is really nice in lane and it also helps you chase, escape, 1v1, and just gives you good damage.

Berserker's Greaves is the boots I recommend on Yasuo because the attack speed is very nice and helps you with farming and killing enemies. You can also build Mobility Boots or Mercury's Treads on Yasuo, but it all depends on your preference.

Ravenous Hydra is a really good item on Yasuo. Rush Tiamat and then get Vamp Septer and then you will have great life steal and wave clear. If you combine this with Statikk Shiv you will have insane wave clear and AoE damage. You can activate your Hydra's passive while using your e and q and you will get great wave clear.

Guardian Angel should be your last or second to last item. This helps a lot if you die in team fights to poke, or in a close 1v1. Guardian Angel also gives you some armor to make you less squishy. Always remember if you are very late in the game and have a lot of money, whenever your GA is on cooldown, sell it and buy something else while it is on cooldown.

Bloodthirster is a really good sustain item for Yasuo. This gives a lot of life steal plus some attack damage. This item is useful if you want to sustain a little more in lane, and have even more 1v5 potential. Blood thirster combined with Ravenous Hydra gives you ridiculous life steal.

Optional

Banshee's Veil is good on Yasuo especially if there team comp has very high burst or poke, like Katarina or LeBlanc. This should be one of your last items on your build.

Phantom Dancer is a fine item on Yasuo. It gives a lot of crit chance and its passive that lets you move through units is nice. It also gives you good attack speed. This can be replaced with Infinity Edge.

Last Whisper is a good item for Yasuo especially if the enemy team has lots of armor, and you are having trouble killing the tanks.

Randuin's Omen is a really good choice for Yasuo if you are against a very AD heavy and crit comp, and you also want to be able to stick to your enemies more. The active on Randuin's is great for chasing and escaping.

Sunfire Aegis can be used against an AD heavy comp, and you also want more wave control, as the passive is very good for wave clearing and over all lane domination.

Blade of the Ruined King is a very strong item on Yasuo in my opinion. It gives good lifesteal and the attack speed is good with Berserker's Greaves. The one thing you have to remember is to actually USE Blade of the Ruined King on your enemy. I used to forget this a lot but it helps in a 1v1 and you should always do it in damage trades.

Trinity Force is a great item on Yasuo. I recommend building Trinity Force if you are doing very well. It is a good item to buy after Blade of the Ruined King and Statikk Shiv. The Phage combined with the enchantment Furor on your boots is really good, and sheen makes your auto attacks do even more damage.

Summoner Spells

This is by far the most useful spell in the game. You should use it with Yasuo on every game no matter what. It is great for escaping, chasing, and making sweet out plays.

This is a very viable spell on Yasuo and I recommend it over other optional spells. It is really good for finishing and securing kills and can be used during Last Breath. It also is great in 1v1's.

This is an optional spell on Yasuo that can be used in certain situations. I think the best way to use this is against bursty champions like a Zed. This spell is good against Zed because it can save you from his Death Mark. Barrier also works very well with your passive shield.

This spell can be useful in only some matchups. Exhaust against a Zed, LeBlanc, Katarina, and other bursty champions is very good because it destroys all of there damage, and slows them. Although I think Ignite is better, this spell is still very useful.

This spell is fine on Yasuo if you are going Top, but it is not recommended in the mid lane. Teleport is very good for ganks, engages, catching up to lane, split pushing, and more.

This spell is not recommended on Yasuo because it is not that beneficial for a fighter/assassin. You can take Heal on Yasuo if you are maybe a new Yasuo player, but other then that it is not that good on him.

This is another spell that is not recommended on Yasuo. You already have good mobility with your Sweeping Blade and Flash is much better for escaping.

Early Game

Yasuo's early game is decent, but it is better to farm than to go for kills. Start Steel Tempest against any other laner except champions that have lots of skillshots that you can dodge, like Ahri, or Nidalee. In that case, you should start Sweeping Blade. Yasuo actually has a very strong level 2 power spike with Sweeping Blade and Steel Tempest. And if your enemy is bold, you have a high chance of getting first blood. If you can not do this, just farm with your Sweeping Blade and Steel Tempest. Depending on who you are versing, it is best to just harass and not to all in until you hit level 6. A great harass combo is first to Sweeping Blade through there minions, then when you get to the enemy, Sweeping Blade, Steel Tempest, AA, AA, and then Sweeping Blade back. This uses your mobility to your advantage and if you do it fast enough you will not take much damage. Especially with your passive shield. Your early game goal is to farm and harass until you get level 6, and hopefully have enough for Statikk Shiv. Thats when you can start roaming and really start to get into the game. Below is a very cool video on how to get first blood on Yasuo. It is by Redmercy, a Youtuber who is very good at Yasuo and I highly recommend you check out his channel here..

Mid Game

Mid game is when Yasuo really starts to thrive. By this time you should have your Statikk Shiv, Berserker's Greaves, Blade of the Ruined King, and more. If you are doing very well or completely winning lane, roam bot or top, depending on which one is struggling more. Its especially good to roam lanes that have a knock up, as its way easier to kill the enemy in that lane. During mid game, if your jungler is okay with it, try to take raptors as much as possible. They are easy to kill with your Steel Tempest, Sweeping Blade combo and give you decent gold. Remember to always keep farming, whenever you can. I see lots of people fall of because they forget to farm. It doesn't matter if your 7/0 20 minutes in, if you have 30 cs, you are not doing well. If a mid game team fight starts, always know who to focus, and who will initiate. If your whole team is doing something different, you will loose the team fight and possibly the game. Wait for your tank/initiator to engage and then go in from there. Remember, if you are about to throw a Steel Tempest tornado at multiple people in a team fight, wait for the tornado to hit all of them. If you don't do this you could end up ulting one person when you really wanted all 5. When roaming bot lane, always put your Wind Wall up, and then engage from there. This will take out all of there damage and you will most likely get the kill. The play below is by Voyboy, an ex-LCS player who is very talented on Yasuo. This play shows the power of Yasuo mid game. The original video can be found here.

Late Game

This is definitely Yasuo's best time of the game. If you have all of your items at this time, you will destroy everyone. Especially if you are fed and ahead of everyone, you can even win 1v5 situations. By late game, your team has passed laning phase, and has started getting objectives like Baron, turrets, and more. Remember when getting Baron and Dragon, you can Wind Wall infront of the monster to block all of its damage. Your duty as a late game Yasuo is to try to carry team fights, split push, assassinate, obtain objectives, and do everything you can to win. The most important thing to remember in late game is to focus the person on the enemy team that does the most damage. This person should be the first person you should go for in team fights. Remember, you get 15 seconds of Armor Penn after using Last Breath and by this time in the game, your Last Breath is on a ridiculously low cooldown. Use this to your advantage by ulting the ADC in team fights, and after you have finished him, proceed to finish the fight with your Armor Penn. The reason why you want to go for the ADC first is because they probably do the most damage, and they also are probably the squishiest. Yasuo is insanely strong late game and carry any team fight. Especially with the right synergy. Below is an example of how good any late game Yasuo is.

Tips and Tricks

There are endless tricks that you can do with Yasuo and I bet no one has found them all. But their are 5 really useful ones that could totally help your Yasuo gameplay out, and make him more fun. Here is a video made by a great Yasuo player, Redmercy. In this video he explains how to do some of the most useful Yasuo tricks.

Synergies

Yasuo has a lot of Synergy due to his knock-up activated ultimate Last Breath. Here I list every champion that has a knock-up ultimate ability. I am not counting normal abilities, just ultimates, as it would take very long to make. There also is a cool thing about Yasuo's Last Breath. It can be cast off of the Dragon's first knock-up spell and Baron's knock-up.

Azir Emperor's Divide
Aurelion Sol Falling Star
Braum Glacial Fissure
Fizz Chum the Waters
Gnar GNAR!

Mid vs. Top

Yasuo can be played Mid and Top and is great at both. But there is some differences between the two. I personally prefer to play Yasuo mid, especially because I find it easier to help other lanes, and get to objectives faster. I also like way that mid lane is played. Yasuo top is also good, as most top laners are melee, and Yasuo can use his Sweeping Blade to harass very easily. The only problem is your Wind Wall becomes useless unless against a marksman. There are benefits to playing both lanes, but in the end it really matters on personal preference. One of the main differences is that Teleport is a very common spell for top laners, but Yasuo is very good with the spell Ignite. You can run Ignite top with Yasuo but Teleport gives great advantages for team fights, ganks, holding lanes, split pushing, and more. But with mid-lane Yasuo you don't have to take teleport. In conclusion, Yasuo is very versatile and can be played in both lanes, it just depends on what lane you like better. I have also seen Yasuo jungle. This isn't very good as Yasuo doesn't have good camp clear, nor any hard cc except his third Steel Tempest. This makes ganks very hard for jungle Yasuo.

Summary

Yasuo is by far my favorite champion in the game. He is so versatile and can do so many things. He can be played Top, Mid, Jungle, and even ADC (yes I have done it before). Yasuo is a very strong champion, is super fun to play and has endless possibilities. The best part about Yasuo is that you will never fully master him. Even now I am still learning new things I can do with this champion. Please leave feed back in the comments. This is my first guide ever and I worked very hard on it. I would love to know ways I can improve this guide. If you have any questions about Yasuo please feel free to ask me. Thanks for reading and enjoy playing Yasuo!
