INTRODUCTION

Hello. This is my guide on how to play Sion.

Even before Sion's rework, I thought he was a pretty amazing champion. I mean, he had a 1.5 second slow that did worlds of damage if you build ap. He could get infinite amounts of hp and above all, he had that completely bulls**t ult that made him utterly invincible if he was an AD champion.

Now that Sion has been redone. I have taken this opportunity to take some time and learn how to play this champion.

Lets start with the pros:

+ Huge ganking potential
+ Massive early game damage
+ Good poke
+ Easily earns lane dominance
+ Constantly increasing maximum HP
+ Incredibly overpowered passive

..And now some of the cons:

- All skills require close range or skillshots
- Abilities are slow to use and are easily sidestepped
- Counters: Anyone with mobility
- Cannot react well to ranged harass

I want to touch on that last con. I recently played a ranked game against a Sion in the top lane. I was playing Zed. Whenever Sion went in with his ult to try and kill me, or whenever he tried to Q or E me, I just sidestepped and used my W to get away. Sion cannot work well against mobility. For starters, he has none himself and as I said, all his abilities can be dodged too easily.

I will be updating this guide as much as possible and if you have any questions, please leave them in the comments for me. Thanks :3

RUNES

For runes, I like to just keep the standard runes. They give you a generous amount of offence while still letting you have a buffed defense. The bonus AD will help you cs which in turn will help you stack hp in the early game. The bonus armor and magic resist provide a decent buff to your defenses without being an extreme tank.

STARTING ITEMS

Hybrid / Bruiser

I like to start with a Doran's Shield. Due to Sions lack of mobility, he generally gets harassed a lot in the top lane.

Standard health pot :3

You want to get the warding totem trinket so that you will get some free vision. This is very important as it will let you keep an eye out for ganks. If you get ganked pre six, you have no way of escaping.

FINAL ITEMS

Hybrid

Mobility Boots - Boots of Mobility allow for you to chase down enemies who are unable to fight back (Alternative: Boots of Swiftness)

Sunfire Aegis - Sunfire Cape is a great item to help you get CS. Just stant in the middle of a large group of minions and let the cape do its thing. (Alternative: Randuin's Omen)

Banshee's Veil - The bonus health, mana, and magic resistance along with the spell shield that you get from the Banshee's Veil allows for a very protected and very safe laning phase. (Alternative: Spirit Visage)

Ravenous Hydra - Ravenous Hydra gives you a lot of attack damage, lifesteal, and AOE to help you flush out the minions and or do heavy collateral damage to nearby enemies during team fights. (Alternative: Bloodthirster)

Iceborn Gauntlet - Iceborn Gauntlet provides you with some armor, ability power, and the sheen spellblade passive along with a slow to keep your enemy nearby and land your Q's. (Alternative: Lich Bane, Trinity Force)

Warmog's Armor - Warmog's Armor is used to keep you alive without having to recall. They bonus health regeneration along with the extra 1k health allows for some pretty good sustain in lane. (Alternative: Frozen Mallet)

Bruiser

Boots of Swiftness - Boots of Swiftness enable you to have a high movement speed stat consistently as opposed to boots of mobility. You need these boots in order to chase down your enemies and beat them to death. (Alternative: Mobility Boots)

Ravenous Hydra - Ravenous Hydra gives you massive wave clear and a bonus 12% lifesteal. It gives to a fairly generous damage boost as well and an active ability to reset your auto attack. (Alternative: Bloodthirster)

Blade of the Ruined King - Blade of the Ruined King is a VERY useful item. It provides you with increased damage, attack speed, lifesteal and a unique active slow to keep your enemies in range of your Q. (Alternative: Phantom Dancer)

Bloodthirster - The Bloodthirster was mentioned earlier as an alternative to the Ravenous Hydra although I still think this item should be considered. Due to your immense lifesteal bonuses, you can have an almost permanent shield. (Alternative: Essence Reaver)

Spirit Visage - The spirit visage gives you bonus health and magic resist. It also buffs your healing capabilities which are already insanely high. (Alternative: Banshee's Veil)

Trinity Force - The Trinity Force gives you a stat boost of essentially everything which is very useful on Sion. But not only do you get the stat bonuses, you get the sheen passive to help you destroy the enemy. (Alternative: Iceborn Gauntlet)

SITUATIONAL ITEMS

These are some items that I find to be very useful under different circumstances. These items provide more offence power and defensive power but can only be used to their greatest extent if used properly.

Bloodthirster - Bloodthirster is a very good item and it works very well with all other items on this list. It provides a very significant boost to your offensive power and gives you a shield if you currently have full health.

Blade of the Ruined King - Blade of the Ruined King is an amazing item on Sion. It gives you some bonus attack damage, lifesteal, attack speed, AND a slow. The item can be used to smashing down enemies in lane and the slow can be used if you miss your E. The bonus attack speed and lifesteal helps you cs minions and will keep your maximum health at a generous amount.

Spirit Visage - Spirit Visage is one of the best items on sion if you are going for an offensive build. This will not only give you bonus health regen, magic resist, and health, but it will also buff your ability to lifesteal. You can simply get tanier and tanier the more you fight without the worry of dying.

Guinsoo's Rageblade - Guinsoo's Rageblade provides you with some attack damage and even some ability power along with it's unique po***ive as well. You will get some bonus lifesteal along with spell vamp. And once you die and your passive goes off, hit the enemy hard because they will be begging for mercy.

LANING TIPS

I have a few laning tips for Sion, but I prefer to think of him as someone who works better in a team fight due to his massive amounts of cc and abilty to output damage like it's nothing. Here are some quick tips that I think may come in handy in lane:

<> When laning, it is good to start harassing your enemy with your E as it goes through minions and has a relatively low mana cost.

<> When engaging an enemy, use your combo: E (Slow), Q, W (While Q is charging) and you should be able to do a significant amount of damage to the other team.

<> Try not to push pre six. You have no escape and unless your enemy doesn't have a jungler that is agile, you are going to take a beating.

<> Your ult cannot be steered very easily. You are able to steer around the top and bottom of summoners rift but don't expect to be weaving through the jungle with it to start a gank.

<> Your main objective in lane is to get as much CS as possible. This is how you assert lane dominance because due to your naturally increasing HP, you can o****er build your enemy and completely negate most of the damage done to you.

CONCLUSION

Thank you for taking the time to read my Sion guide. He is clearly a champion with a lot of potential and would have great synergy with other champions *cough Yasuo cough*.

I think this is one of the best reworks Riot has ever done for the community and I hope they continue to make more wonderful content like this for us to enjoy.

Thanks again,
