Good guide +1, it helped me to do better combo especially early game, but i have some questions:
1)why you level up first Spell Flux? Rune Prison is a very strong damage and against squishies your magic penetration (from rune and masteries) and Spell Flux level one should make their MR to 0 without problem
2)why not using speed quints and 4 points in swiftness? Isn't Ryze too slow?
3)I was wondering what about 3 points in strength of spirit dropping a point from Mastermind and from intelligence, it gives you an early 4 hp/5 scaling throughout the game to over 40 hp/5 making you nearly immortal with spellvamp. (you can use 3 flat cdr Glyph or 2 scaling cdr Glyph to have 10% cdr from masteries)

Magic penetration is more effective the closer their mr is to 0. The magic resist of squishies is usually about 30. One level spell flux and runes only brings it down to 10. Masteries is percentage based, so it will only bring it down to 9.
However, from <10, magic resistance is increasingly more effective until 0. So unless you get sorcerer's shoes, more magic pen is very good.

I like the spell vamp runes, as they scale very well with Ryze's single target spammable spells. However, recently I've also been mixing in some movement speed quints as well, but spell vamp has saved me several times with that emergency heal. Ryze is can get mana starved rather quickly early game, and the extra mana regen from mastery helps solve this.

Unless you are playing against enemies with skillshots that you have to dodge, I don't have a problem without all that extra ms.

When they re-added the SOS, I saw that the first point is more effective than the rest, and I knew that 2% cdr is a great mastery for each point, so I maxed the cdr and only got one point in SOS.
With the old masteries, I used to use this and cdr glyphs, but since the new masteries, I haven't really tried this yet. The math looks reasonable, so I'll give it a shot and test it out when I have time, though I wouldn't drop mastermind, as that's a high priority spell. I'll just take 2 points of cdr and sacrifice my mana glyphs for them and see how it goes.

Thank you for the reply. It was really exhaustive, as soon as I get the runes and lvl 30 I'll let you know. I think the Spellvamp from the quints will be grat with Stregth of Spirit

EDIT: with 3 points in stregth of spirit i reached 60 HP/5 with 4000 Mana (the first time i didn't count Ryze own health regeneration xD)

great ryze guide. i was getting killed really easy until i tried out your guide.but could u please add a section about how to counter fiddlesticks.met him in my last game and he was really hard to counter (1v1 in mid)

I've tried quite a few Ryze guides and builds and this is by FAR the best guide and build. This is the build that works all throughout the game and has enough versatility to meet most opposing teams. Granted, you cannot win every fight, but this will at least get you darn close. End game, you WILL be the most feared AP on the field. Nothing beats a mana-high Ryze with maxed CD and spell-vamp. (except for maybe a well fed Dr. Mundo) Loved the guide.
