This is my guide on Renekton - The Butcher of The Sands. It'll give you a basic build for you to go by, and hopefully provide you with the knowledge you need to succeed on the fields of justice.
On a faraway world, Renekton was born a member of a race of bestial guardians created to serve as the rulers and protectors of their people. Alongside his brother Nasus, Renekton oversaw the upkeep of the Great Library, which served as both a vault of ancient knowledge and the repository of the teachings of the Cycle of Life and Death. While the enlightened Nasus taught those scholars who came to study, Renekton served as the Great Library's gatekeeper. He could sense the true natures of those who sought Nasus' teachings, and he sent away those with dark ambitions. Over time, however, his repeated exposure to this evil infected his mind. He grew furious with the malevolence in the hearts of men, and as he descended deeper into madness, he discovered he could quell the fury by cutting the evil from the men who possessed it. Unfortunately, the relief was as short-lived as the subjects, and the ''butcher's rage'', as it came to be known, would resurge even stronger.
Consumed by his anger, Renekton turned on the one being who could defeat him -- his own brother. Nasus pleaded with Renekton to see reason. Realizing that he was beyond redemption, the despondent Nasus valiantly struck down his wayward sibling. Defenseless, Renekton waited eagerly for death's release. It never came. He was spared when summoners from the League of Legends claimed his brother. Caught in the wake of this powerful spell, Renekton tumbled for what seemed like ages between realities. When he finally emerged, he fell deep into the sewers of Zaun. Insane with fury, Renekton languished in his newfound home, driven senseless by his rage. That is until, by happenstance, he caught a familiar scent on the air. Believing that the familiar scent who guide him to the solace which was fading from his memory, he his brother all the way to the Institute of War.
''My brother has become hollow. Full of rage, but empty.'' -- Nasus, the Curator of the Sands.
Overview of Renekton
When playing Renekton you need to remeber your role, whether you are full tank or off tank DPS. Renekton is by no means a champion where you can just face roll an enemy team without having your team with you. This means you strike when your team is ready, and not when you feel like getting a solo kill. Renekton is a great initiator and if there is no other tank on your team, you are first to enter the battle. Do not be shy to pop your ult after you E into the middle of them and Q. You'll be surprised at how fast enemies will start trying to focus you while your team picks them off. You'll also be surprised that with this build how well you can tank while killing most of if not all of their team.
Also, important strategies involved using Renekton are knowing what to focus and when to focus it. Running in and blasting the nearest Shaco/Tristana might not be such a good thing to do. Focus on the enemy that poses the most threat and take them out of the equation. Just like any DPS/Carry/Good Tank would do. It is also important to note that Renekton has a very aggressive type of play style. You need to be up in the enemies face and able to harass, so when choosing a lane think about this carefully. Who would benefit that play style the most, and can you be aggressive with that person in your lane?
Remember that common sense beats any guide or strategy that you can possibly come up with. Use it to your advantage and get the items and runes/masteries that fit your style. While I do believe that Riots goal was to make Renekton a very up in your face type of champion, there could still be other ways to play him. There are very inituitive people who play this game that will come up with odd ball builds that are viable. Just do the best you can, play the game that would most benefit your team, and most importantly kick some nooby ***!
Pros / Cons
Renekton is a character that relies on heavy farm, if in anyway you are deterred this could destroy your entire game. TL:DR, if you cannot control your lane, you will be out farmed and killed. You need gold to get your items as quick as possible so you can help your team succeed in team fights.
Heavy DPS Burst
Heals are very good when you obtain visage
Can tank if there is no other tank on your team
One of the best farmers I've ever seen
Can be bursted down quickly by mages if you do not focus them or your team neglects you
Very susceptible to CC, so do not be shy to buy merc treads if you need it!
Relies Heavily On Items (Madreds is a must) it turns his W to a mini WW ult at 50 Fury
Those are the only cons I can think of so far. If there are any I missed leave it in the comments box, thanks! :)
This is my short guide to Renekton - Butcher of the Sands. I hope this guide helped some of you. If you need an explaination was to why I took the items/runes/masteries I did, I would be happy to oblige you. I think the most apparent one would be, why I didn't take Evasion in the defensive tree. Truth be told it's because I dodge enough without it. That extra 2% most likely wouldn't help me in the slightest, and so I put that 5% extra EXP on a higher pedestal . Since Renekton is new, I'm open to suggestions to improving this guide. Thanks for reading!
