now, this is a funny matchup because level 1, he wins, level 2, it becomes slightly even depending whether you dash to dodge the blades of his q, level 3 and onwards you win, and when he reaches level 6, it becomes difficult because if he grabs you on your second dash out, you will probably die so be careful when trading, I advise only short trades with e, w, q dash out, if you do it too slow, he can grab you. Late game he will destroy you 1v1,and generally is more useful to his team. Build black cleaver and try to destroy him before he reaches his godlike power spike. Claver, tabi, ravenous, good items to stop his damage is randiuns due to it lowering his attack speed thus reducing his stacks per second.
Who am I?
I started playing the game at the end of season 3 in which I managed to get bronze 2 although during the pre-season I hit gold. During season 4 I obtained platinum and from then on managed to hit diamond in season 5, and diamond again on an unranked account in season 6. Currently i'm in plat 2 and will hopefully hit diamond again soon!

The general play style of Renekton is to be a lane bully, and try to harass and bully the enemy as much as possible, if they over stay, you kill them, if they recall, they lose creeps, they're always at a loss. Your kit has a point and click stun with Ruthless Predator, a double dash engage and disengage Slice and Dice, and built in sustain Cull the Meek as well as no mana costs on top of being able to buff your abilities by building fury. Your early game and mid game is some of the most strongest out of any top laners in the game so it is important to abuse this, late unless you build more damage, your damage falls off and you're simply a tank, however that doesn't make you useless as being able to Flash and use Ruthless Predator to lock down the squishy adc and have your team jump on them can win you fights, you are very tanky regardless if you build damage or tank thanks to your ultimate Dominus
Ferocity
Tier 1
Sorcery is much better than Fury as Renekton is all ability based, and having 2% will help early on.
Tier 2
Fresh Blood is our choice however Feast can also be used if you think you need sustain, overall these masteries make little difference in choice but Fresh Blood is what I prefer to use due to giving you slightly more damage, and by the time your engage cooldowns are back up, this mastery will also be back up.
Tier 3
Vampirism gives extra healing on top of your already good sustain on auto attacks, and your spells.
Tier 4
This tree once again makes no real difference however the main choices to go for are Bounty Hunter and Double Edged Sword but I go for Double Edged Sword as you will as you are all about early game, and having 5% more damage is more helpful, Bounty Hunter is better if vsing a lane you can't kill such as a range lane as why take extra 2.5% damage if you can't touch them?
Tier 5
Battering Blows is obviously the winner, you deal no magic damage whatsoever so Piercing Thoughts does nothing.
Cunning
Generally, this tree isn't really all to useful except for the Merciless and not worth losing the defensive tree.
Tier 1
Recovery is the best mastery as you see results instantly, and having more sustain especially sustain which requires no actions is very useful, Unyielding only works with bonus armor thus isn't as good and since we don't stack a HUGE amount of it, it isn't worth it.
Tier 2
little difference in choice but Tough Skin means you take 2 less damage per auto attack and this can stack up when attacked a lot, and can even help you clutch situations.
Tier 3
Runic Armor is for sure what we want as the 8% extra healing helps with health regen on top of making Recovery more stronger, but also gives your Cull the Meek and any life steal even stronger.
Tier 4
Insight as having lower cooldowns means more play making opportunities as well as meaning you don't get punished as much for burning a Flash
Keystones
Renekton gains stack very quickly thanks to his w, and since he's ability based, this can give him a huge damage spike, and in my opinion better than Thunderlord's Decree as it has no cooldown. |
Thunderlord's decree is a very burst orientated mastery as it does a lot of up front damage however falls off later on in the game when laning ends, Fervor of Battle out scales it heavily as well as Intelligence and Precision are both not as good as Battering Blows |
This mastery has fallen off in my opinion however it is still viable and decently strong however the nerfs make it very weak in my opinion, and Fervor of Battle actually helps you kill the enemy laner. |
Quintessences
Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed
Useless, you're not a dps attack speed champion and don't have any on hit effects thus not really useful since you're all about short trades, and burst.
Greater Quintessence of Life Steal
Useless since you lose a lot of AD as you already have a lot of sustain, and having more AD increases it regardless.
Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage
Best quints to use as they offer damage, increase your Cull the Meek sustain, enough said
Seals
Greater Seal of Scaling Health
Use these vs AP laners as having armor is useless and gives no benefits.
Greater Seal of Armor
Standard, use vs any ad laner
Glyphs
Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist
Better than flat mr as they outscale quite early
Greater Glyph of Scaling Cooldown Reduction
Important as Renekton only weakness is his abilities being down, so this helps out, as well as helps you hit the 40% cooldown mark which will help your late game slightly.
Marks:
Greater Mark of Lethality
Do not build lethality, as it sucks now, only 40% of the value will be counted towards armor pen until you reach level 18 in which it will be equal to the old armor penetration that we know.
Greater Mark of Attack Speed
Once again, you're all about short trades, useless unless you're going for troll builds.
Greater Mark of Attack Damage
Best marks to use, grant damage, sustain on Cull the Meek and generally will help you the most.
+ Very strong laning phase due to high damage output and mobility
+ Very difficult to catch and chase due to having insane mobility with a double dash Slice and Dice
+ One of the few champions who has a point and click stun
+ If in trouble can instantly gain a huge amount of health thanks to Dominus
+ His aoe damage is pretty high for a melee champion
+ He has insane sustain thanks to Cull the Meek making forcing him out of lane difficult on top of trading
+ Can be a bit harder to itemize due his ultimate dealing magic damage and Black Cleaver instantly shreding armor due to his Ruthless Predator hitting multiple times thus stacking cleaver
+ Very tank even when he builds damage due to Dominus and hp items.
+ Very beginner friendly champion to pick up, and master.
Cons:
- Sub par late game as all he can do is soak damage, and deal an "acceptable" amount of damage, his only cc tool is single target making it difficult to be useful to the team.
- If abilities used incorrectly, can be left vulnerable
- Really difficult to play at high levels as high elo players will know how to fight a Renekton
- Can be a bit difficult to learn his animation cancels.
- Needs something to hit with Slice and Dice to be an effective escape thus decent positioning when using it is key.
- Can be difficult to learn how to itemise
- Can struggle vs range matchups who know how to play vs him.
- Everybody knows what his abilities do
- You may be flamed by enemy team for playing a "Non skill champion"
Basically enhances his other abilities, but generally for damage you use Ruthless Predator and for sustain you use Cull the Meek and vs high armor targets using Slice and Dice second dash will reduce their armor, it requires 50 fury but can stack to 100 allowing you to use 2 fury abilities however if you cast an ability it will consume the fury so make sure you manage it correctly. Slice and Dice will not consume fury as long as you don't use the second dash, so use this to your knowledge and dash forward, and unload your fury abilities! |
Maxed first. This ability has no cast time meaning it will not interrupt any of renektons orders meaning you can use it while moving without it cancelling movement orders. This ability gives Renekton sustain and when he has 50 fury, it gives him extra healing, and extra damage. This ability does slightly LESS damage than Ruthless Predator when maxed first however the sustain it gives is important and doing an extra 10 damage isn't really worth losing out on additional health gained as well as waveclear |
Max third. This ability is Renekton point and click stun however it has a self stun in which you're also locked out of casting abilities however there's two ways to cancel the animation of the self stun, one is by activating Tiamat which will cancel the animation and do additional damage, and the other by activating Dominus, very useful if you think they'll flash out when Ruthless Predator has finished casting. This ability also applies on hit effects twice without fury, and 3 times with 50 fury. This ability can also be useful to kill wards due to it hitting multiple times. And finally, is the main ability to use when you want to unload a ton of damage on the opponent when you have fury, this ability does a HUGE amount of damage! NOTE! This ability only consumes fury when it hits a unit, and not when activated thus use this to your knowledge and if they're out of range, cast q instead rather than wasting your fury on a minion. |
Max second. This ability is a dash, and if you hit a unit, you can cast a second dash which can consume 50 fury if you have it to lower the enemies armor by 15%. The cooldown is one of the main reasons we max this but also the fact its cooldown gets lowered, but also it has two damaging parts thus in theory does more damage than your Ruthless Predator |
Generally you'll want to build full tank if you ever fall behind for whatever reason as your aim as Renekton is to win early, and snowball a lead, but if there's no lead to begin with, you're better off soaking damage, and being annoying.
Death's Dance is actually really strong on him but at the same time, you lose Tiamat wave clear, you can build both but you'll deal a ton of damage but at the same time, you'll be much squisher and easier to kite.
deadmans plate gives him extra mobility, and health which is really useful
Spirit Visage offers additional healing, gives more life steal, offers regen, cdr and magic resit which makes it very strong on renekton.
Blade of the Ruined King is legit, but there's better options. This is a good item vs duelists as it allows you to duel them.
Ninja Tabi nerfs aside, this item is still strong, build vs AD.
