Introduction
Hello once again boys and girls. This time i am proudly bringing you my third guide here on mobafire and this time im doing this on the most feared predator in the league called Rengar. When i first layed eyes on Rengar i did not really excpect much from him. I mainly wanted to play him because of the new verocity system. Once i was in game i realized how awesome he was and so i had to think of my own guide.
Now this build is mainly focused on playing solo top with Rengar but i will include a little jungling as well.
Rengar makes an excellent tank and a feared jungler in the game.
If you have not seen the champion spotlight by Phreak then here it is.
Runes
- Greater mark of desolation - This is pretty much a must on all solotop champions. It gives great armor penetration, meaning that you can you can do more damage to your enemies.
- Greater Seal of Armor - Another good set of runes. The enemies that are going to be at top are most likely going to deal physical damage to you, and these runes help you block some of that damage they do to you, they are also very good when you are jungling because they block a lot of damage that the jungle creeps do to you at the start.
- Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist - It gives you more magic resist so you would take less damage from mages like Veigar or Ahri and the overall magic resist you get as you hit level 18 is a nice little boost.
- Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage - I take these for that nice starting attack bonus. They do not really pay off later in the game, but they are quite strong early game, these also help you jungle quicker since you do overall more damage with your attacks and abilites.
Other Viable Runes
- Greater Mark of Attack Speed - These runes can be helpful too, they fit perfectly with your Savagery and they could help you clear the jungle faster.
- Greater Glyph of Magic Resist - If you want that early game magic resist advantage, get these runes.
Offense Masteries
- Brute Force - Just for that early game attack damage advantage, it also works great with your Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage.
- Alacrity - Gives you a nice attack speed bonus, also fits in good with your Wit's End
-
Weapon Expertise
- A huge booster to your armor penetration, also fits perfeclty with your Greater mark of desolation
-
Summoner's Wrath
- I take this mastery to get the extra bonuses on Ignite and Exhaust.
Defense Masteries
- Resistance - This mastery is pretty nice. You are building as a tank so this helps you block more damage from magic casters.
- Hardiness - Another helpful mastery, gives you more armor and blocks more damage that those physical damage dealers put out.
- Durability - As a tank you need health as well, so this mastery comes quite handy, and the health you get all togheter is very nice too!
- Veteran's Scars - A nice starting health steroid, nothing more to say.
- Enlightenment - You have quite long cooldowns at the start, so this mastery comes in handy to get a second or two off of your abilites.
- Honor Guard - A helpful mastery, you recive less damage thus allowing you to be in lane or in teamfights longer.
- Juggernaut - This is one of the best masteries out there. It gives you health and reduces disables by 10%, a huge steroid mastery.
- Bladed Armor - I take this mastery ONLY when i am jungling, the creeps hurt themselves while hitting you, it helps clearing the camp faster and reciving less damage from the creeps.
- Tough Skin - A good mastery once again, it does not give that much damage reduction but it could be a lifesaver for you.
Ganking
Item Sequence
- Mercury's Treads - A very good selection of boots to have. It gives you more magic resist making you more tanky. And it reduces crowd control (CC) effects on you by 35%
- Warmog's Armor - This item is a huge health steroid for you. Gives you a lot of health meaning that you can take more hits, also work great with your Battle Roar once you have all of your verocity, you can really heal a ton of health back.
- Wit's End - Another good item. I take this because not only do you get magic resist, you get a lot of attack speed. And that attack speed fits perfectly with the attack speed buff you get from Savagery.
- Maw of Malmortius - It gives you good attack damage, even more attack damage when you have low health. But the best thing about this item is the shield you get that absorbs 400 magic damage. This item could be your lifesaver in teamfights or in any other fights.
- Randuin's Omen - One of the best items for a tank. It has it all, good armor health and health regen. I really love the active and passive on it too, a must have on Rengar.
- Force of Nature - A really good item, it gives you a lot of health regen, magic resist and movement speed so you can easily catch up to enemies or run away from them.
Jungling Items
Item Sequence
- Wriggle's Lantern - A standard jungling item. It gives you some nice attack damage, armor and some life steal. You also have a small chance to do extra magic damage to minions and jungle creeps. What i really like about this item is the free ward you get. You only get 1 ward, so place it where it is needed.
- Frozen Mallet - This item gives you a ton of health, some attack damage and it slows down the champions you attack, meaning that you can easily catch up to them.
- Bloodthirster - A nice boost to your attack damage, and it gives you even more lifesteal meaning that you have great sustain.
- Savagery - A nice skill that Rengar has. It deals a good amout of damage and gives you an attack speed bonus for a short time. When used with full verocity this skill deals a riciculous amout of damage earlygame and provides you with a even faster attack speed buff.
- Battle Roar - I max this last because you are not building ability power on Rengar. It deals damage around an area and when used with full verocity it heals 15% of your maximum health. This skill allows for a very good lane sustain and jungle sustain.
- Bola Strike - I get this skill early because you can easily harrass with this item, it also slows down enemy champions and creeps. And when you have full verocity it snares the enemy to the ground, making him unable to move.
- Thrill of the Hunt - This ultimate is AWESOME, it makes you invisible for quite a long period of time, and it provides you with verocity. This ultimate is very good for ganking or escaping, plus you get a movespeed bonus, so you can catch up to enemies who are low on health.
- Unseen Predator - An awesome passive, it provides Rengar with verocity, you gain 1 verocity point each time you use one of your abilites. If you hit 5 vecrocity points you can do an empowered attack. This passive is also great for ganking, you can leap on to enemy champions, minions and jungle creeps while you are in brush. It has quite a long range and so if you leap the enemies won't even excpect it, giving you an easy kill. I suggest ganking when you have full verocity because the bonuses you get for your abilities are very good.
