Introduction

Hello once again boys and girls. This time i am proudly bringing you my third guide here on mobafire and this time im doing this on the most feared predator in the league called Rengar. When i first layed eyes on Rengar i did not really excpect much from him. I mainly wanted to play him because of the new verocity system. Once i was in game i realized how awesome he was and so i had to think of my own guide.

Now this build is mainly focused on playing solo top with Rengar but i will include a little jungling as well.

Rengar makes an excellent tank and a feared jungler in the game.

If you have not seen the champion spotlight by Phreak then here it is.

Runes

So i use these runes for both jungling and for soloing top lane.

Runes

Sorcery
Phase Rush
  • Greater mark of desolation - This is pretty much a must on all solotop champions. It gives great armor penetration, meaning that you can you can do more damage to your enemies.
  • Greater Seal of Armor - Another good set of runes. The enemies that are going to be at top are most likely going to deal physical damage to you, and these runes help you block some of that damage they do to you, they are also very good when you are jungling because they block a lot of damage that the jungle creeps do to you at the start.
  • Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist - It gives you more magic resist so you would take less damage from mages like Veigar or Ahri and the overall magic resist you get as you hit level 18 is a nice little boost.
  • Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage - I take these for that nice starting attack bonus. They do not really pay off later in the game, but they are quite strong early game, these also help you jungle quicker since you do overall more damage with your attacks and abilites.

Masteries

Offense Masteries

Defense Masteries

  • Resistance - This mastery is pretty nice. You are building as a tank so this helps you block more damage from magic casters.
  • Hardiness - Another helpful mastery, gives you more armor and blocks more damage that those physical damage dealers put out.
  • Durability - As a tank you need health as well, so this mastery comes quite handy, and the health you get all togheter is very nice too!
  • Veteran's Scars - A nice starting health steroid, nothing more to say.
  • Enlightenment - You have quite long cooldowns at the start, so this mastery comes in handy to get a second or two off of your abilites.
  • Honor Guard - A helpful mastery, you recive less damage thus allowing you to be in lane or in teamfights longer.
  • Juggernaut - This is one of the best masteries out there. It gives you health and reduces disables by 10%, a huge steroid mastery.
  • Bladed Armor - I take this mastery ONLY when i am jungling, the creeps hurt themselves while hitting you, it helps clearing the camp faster and reciving less damage from the creeps.
  • Tough Skin - A good mastery once again, it does not give that much damage reduction but it could be a lifesaver for you.

Jungling / Ganking

1.Red Buff
I start at the red buff. Wait for a good leash and you can easily do the buff without wasting any of your potions. But if you feel like you are going to take damage, feel free to use a health potion then.
2.Wraiths
I move on to the wraiths next, they are quite easy to kill, and if you have a kind teammate who can pull wraiths for you after you do the red buff you can clear it without taking any damage pretty much.
3.Wolves
Next i head to the wolves. I use a health potion here because the wolves can do critical damage and it hurts quite a lot at the start.
4.Blue Buff
And last but definitely not least i head to the blue golem. I use my last remaining potions here. After you have gotten blue i look for a gank in lane. If my teammates have pushed the lane i ususally head back to buy items.

Ganking

Situation 1
When an enemy is pushed to your tower then definitely gank, he has a long way back to his tower and you should get a kill easily.
Situation 2
Definitely do NOT gank when your teammates has pushed the lane. It is very risky and it will most likely get you killed.
Situation 3
It is ok to gank when both your teammate and the enemy have pushed the lane , tell your teammate to engage on them before ganking, if everything goes right, you should have gotten the kill or assist.

Items

Item Sequence

Warmog's Armor 3100
Wit's End 2800
Maw of Malmortius 2800
Randuin's Omen 2700
Force of Nature 2800
  • Mercury's Treads - A very good selection of boots to have. It gives you more magic resist making you more tanky. And it reduces crowd control (CC) effects on you by 35%
  • Warmog's Armor - This item is a huge health steroid for you. Gives you a lot of health meaning that you can take more hits, also work great with your Battle Roar once you have all of your verocity, you can really heal a ton of health back.
  • Wit's End - Another good item. I take this because not only do you get magic resist, you get a lot of attack speed. And that attack speed fits perfectly with the attack speed buff you get from Savagery.
  • Maw of Malmortius - It gives you good attack damage, even more attack damage when you have low health. But the best thing about this item is the shield you get that absorbs 400 magic damage. This item could be your lifesaver in teamfights or in any other fights.
  • Randuin's Omen - One of the best items for a tank. It has it all, good armor health and health regen. I really love the active and passive on it too, a must have on Rengar.
  • Force of Nature - A really good item, it gives you a lot of health regen, magic resist and movement speed so you can easily catch up to enemies or run away from them.

Jungling Items

Item Sequence

Wriggle's Lantern 1800
Frozen Mallet 3100
Randuin's Omen 2700
Wit's End 2800
Bloodthirster 3400
  • Wriggle's Lantern - A standard jungling item. It gives you some nice attack damage, armor and some life steal. You also have a small chance to do extra magic damage to minions and jungle creeps. What i really like about this item is the free ward you get. You only get 1 ward, so place it where it is needed.
  • Frozen Mallet - This item gives you a ton of health, some attack damage and it slows down the champions you attack, meaning that you can easily catch up to them.
  • Bloodthirster - A nice boost to your attack damage, and it gives you even more lifesteal meaning that you have great sustain.

BUT FENIX Y U NO GET BONETOOTH NECKLACE!!!???

Well, BONETOOTH NECKLACE is more of a snowball item. If you are not doing so good this item does not really pay off, since you need champion kills or assists to get trophies. And i dont really like the item too, it only has a few good bonuses, and i cant find an item to replace it with, so yea, thats why i dont get the necklace on him. It is a very cool unique item but it just does not suit my taste :)

Skills

  • Savagery - A nice skill that Rengar has. It deals a good amout of damage and gives you an attack speed bonus for a short time. When used with full verocity this skill deals a riciculous amout of damage earlygame and provides you with a even faster attack speed buff.
  • Battle Roar - I max this last because you are not building ability power on Rengar. It deals damage around an area and when used with full verocity it heals 15% of your maximum health. This skill allows for a very good lane sustain and jungle sustain.
  • Bola Strike - I get this skill early because you can easily harrass with this item, it also slows down enemy champions and creeps. And when you have full verocity it snares the enemy to the ground, making him unable to move.
  • Thrill of the Hunt - This ultimate is AWESOME, it makes you invisible for quite a long period of time, and it provides you with verocity. This ultimate is very good for ganking or escaping, plus you get a movespeed bonus, so you can catch up to enemies who are low on health.
  • Unseen Predator - An awesome passive, it provides Rengar with verocity, you gain 1 verocity point each time you use one of your abilites. If you hit 5 vecrocity points you can do an empowered attack. This passive is also great for ganking, you can leap on to enemy champions, minions and jungle creeps while you are in brush. It has quite a long range and so if you leap the enemies won't even excpect it, giving you an easy kill. I suggest ganking when you have full verocity because the bonuses you get for your abilities are very good.

Summoner Spells

Recommended Spells

This is a very good spell, it can save your skin, or use it to catch up to enemies, overall one of the best summoner spells in the game Take this spell ONLY when you are jungling, there is just no point to bring this spell to a lane. I take this spell if i am jungling, helps you a lot when ganking, just use this spell + if you have red buff the target is slowed even more, you can just chase down the enemy so easily. I take this spell to finish off healers like Dr. Mundo or Vladimir, just use this when they are getting away with low health and it should take care of them.

Other Viable Spells

This is a great getaway spell and it can be used to catch up to enemies, also fits great with the movements speed you get from your ultimate. If you are helping a different lane, and you see that your lane is in trouble, just use this and you will be in your lane very quick, this spell can also be used if you are getting towerdived by the whole team. Just teleport to a different lane and you have saved your skin.

I do not recommend using any of the other spells i did not mention.
