Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Attack Speed per level increased to 3.5 from 2.9
Base Armor increased to 15 from 12
Some nice attack speed and armor. Nice change.
Broken Wings bonus attack damage ratio increased to 0.7 from 0.6.
Her Q is going to be doing more damage. sweet.
Ki Shout cast time decreased to 0.25 from 0.5
This is a very good change. One thing I noticed on Riven was to cast her stun you yourself had to stop for 0.5 seconds. That's the same duration your enemy gets stunned for.Anyways look for your stun to be more fluid now.
Shield increased to 60/90/120/150/180 from 40/70/100/130/160.
Cooldown decreased to 10/9/8/7/6 from 11/10/9/8/7.
Stronger shield and being able to cast it more often, can't complain about that.
Cast time decreased to 0.25 from 0.5
Missile speed increased by 10% to 2200 from 2000.
Just like with Ki Burst casting wind slash didn't flow. You had to stop and wait half of a second for it to cast. The extra missile speed is also a good change I felt that the speed was slightly low.
Riven The Exile
Very Good Mobility.
Has a nice closer ultimate
Very Fun to Play
Can Farm Well WIth Ki Burst and Broken Wings
Shut down by CC
Easily harassed by ranged champs
Short Stun Duration( Ki Burst)
Difficult To Play Well
Difficult Early game
In my opinion these are the only marks you should be getting on Riven. These marks together with
greater quintessence of desolation will give you 18 armor penetration which means, you'll be hitting everyone a lot harder.
Riven is a squishy champion, by using these seals you will gain an extra 16 armor to help make you more durable.
These glyphs will give you some extra durability by giving you some magic resist
that eventually increases all the way up to 24 at level 18.
As an alternative to these you could also use 9x Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
Greater quintessence of desolation
I grab one of these to further increase my armor penetration. You could also swap this out for 1 more
Greater Quintessence of Health if you wish.
Since Riven only starts out with 414 Health I grab two of these to help increase your durability.
You could also swap these 2 out for 2 more greater quintessence of desolation
This Rune page gives Riven a good early game that scales well into a good mid and end game.
They provide good offense with a little bit of defense.
2.00% extra critical chance doesn't really benefit Riven much. We grab this because it's better than archmage's savy since Riven doesn't benefit from ap.
3.00% cooldown reduction benefits Riven a lot seeing as she is a cooldown based champion. I used to get 4 into Alacrity but she benefits more form the cooldown reduction than the attack speed.
More armor penetration. This will sync well with your greater mark of desolation and greater quintessence of desolation
4 extra damage to minions. This will help you farm up more creep score which means you will be getting more gold to put towards your items. It will also help you in the jungle.
3 extra damage. This will scale with your abilities meaning overall you'll be doing more damage.
The 10% critical strike damage doesn't benefit Riven much, just grab this to progress down the tree.
4% extra physical and magic damage. 4% may not seem like a lot but every bit helps.
6 extra magic resistance will help with Riven's needed durability.
6 armor once again helps with Riven's lack of durability
10% less time spent dead. This is good on any champion. It could be the difference between defending your base from a push or losing your Nexus.
This is My Build, it's not the best build it's just what I have been using and doing well with.
To start off I usually grab a Long Sword and 1 Health Potion. You can also start off with a Doran's Blade or a Cloth Armor with 5x Health Potion.Idealy on the first trip back you want to be leaving with a Madred's Razors and Boots of Speed. After that you want to build your Madred's Razors into a Wriggle's Lantern and upgrade your Boots of Speed depending on the situation. Next I grab a The Brutalizer and a Frozen Mallet. Lastly I upgrade my The Brutalizer into Youmuu's Ghostblade, grab a The Bloodthirster and then finish off the build with a Quicksilver Sash. If you're game goes on really long(which is a situation I haven't been in yet with Riven) you may want to sell the Wriggle's Lantern for a Atma's Impaler or a other damage item.
No way you should be passing this up. Armor,Damage,Lifesteal,The Minion crit and a free ward. Yes please.
Extra attack damage, cooldown reductions and armor penetration. Gives ad for your spells, lets you cast them fast and makes them hit harder.
More AD for your spells, some survivability and a slow. Riven is a pretty squishy Champion so you should really grab this unless you wanna go glass cannon.
More AD for your spells and some more Lifesteal.Yay. Again Riven needs AD for her spells and the Lifesteal will help you survive. One thing to note with bloodthirster is that if you die you lose your stacks. So if you find yourself having a bad game and dying often or you see yourself not having a lot of opportunities to farm you might want to pick up a Last Whisper instead for some extra damage and armor penetration.
I chose to get this instead of Banshee's Veil because quicksilver sash allows you to choose which stun, snare, etc. to negate. Also the price of this is a lot less than Banshee's Veil.
I moved this back up into the main build because I don't know what I was thinking when I said to grab an Infinity Edge those this are EXPENSIVE!
Personally I don't get trinity force on Riven because I rather spend the money on things she needs more. The main argument for getting trinity force is because of her Q. However sheen itself has a cooldown. Riven casts her spells fast and because of this you don't get the full benfit from sheen. the extra crit chance and attack speed are nice but the money could be put towards better ad and survivability items.
I would stay away from Warmog's as I believe Riven is not suited well for the Tanky dps role. However that's not to say going Warmog's Armor and then Atma's Impaler for the extra survivabilty and damage won't work.
This item will give you some nice survivebilty with the extra hp and magic resist but it is easily replaced by Quicksilver Sash on Riven. Riven only benefits from the magic resist passive and hp that this item gives. for the extra gold you're paying it's a better deal to just pick up a Quicksilver Sash
Some badly needed magic resist and armor. This should be grabbed if you find yourself dying a lot. If you're not dying a lot you're better off to grab a Banshee's Veil or Thornmail
I would only recommend grabbing this against a heavy AP team or against a team with a Karthus. Besides being able to save you're life in some situations this item's AD and Magic Resist are out shined by other choices. If you find find yourself picking one of these up I believe you should sell it mid/late game.
Generally you should stay away from this item on Riven since she isn't the farming type. However if you do choose to grab a Warmog's Armor a Tiamat could help you farm up stacks faster.
Sequence 1: More damage.
I put 1 point into Broken Wings, 1 point into Ki Burst, 1 point into Valor and then I prioritize
Doing this allows you to have more damage for harassing.
Sequence 2: More Survivablity.
Again I put 1 point into Broken Wings, 1 point into Ki Burst, 1 point into Valor. But whats different here is that I prioritize Valor over Ki Burst. So the new order is
By doing this it beefs up your shield and lets you withstand some extra damage.
I have tried both of these orders and both of them work. You should use either of them depending on the situation you are in. Ask yourself if you would rather have the extra damage or be able to take some extra hits.
Flash provides great escape or initiation while exhaust can help slow down a target that's trying to run or slow down a target that's chasing you.
Definitely grab this instead of Exhaust if you plan on jungling if not there is no reason to get it.
This a a really good summoner but I don't feel it fits well with Riven. I rather pick up Exhaust to slow down enemy champs than to have to chase them with Ghost and risk being stunned.
Generally you don't ever want to get this summoner spell as it scales terribly into late game. It is outclassed by pretty much any other summoner spell.
A decent summoner spell however I wouldn't get it on Riven.
A very good summoner spell. Grab this if you see yourself having trouble holding top by yourself. If not you're better off to get exhuast instead.
Since I have included a Quicksilver Sash in this build there really is no reason to get cleanse instead of Exhaust maybe if you're facing a team that's full of stuns you could grab it.
Another decent summoner spell but, Let someone else on your team pick this up if you feel that you really need it.
................ self explanatory.
Another excellent summoner spell. You definately want to pick this up if your verusing any champs that rely on healing or regeneratiing( dr.mundo Soraka Karma Alistar) However in a team fight having 1 ignite if often enough. Have someone else on your team pick up Ignite
Not that good of a summoner spell. Don't get it.
A very handy spell. Can help you land a timely ult for a kill, protect you form being ganked and help set up a gank.Normally you will have a support on your team that will pick this up though and since one of them is enough don't get this.
In conclusion I believe Riven is a fun champ to play and she brings some good damage and utility to a team. If you like to jump into the fight hit some people and the run away you're going to like this champ. I have heard people comparing her play style to sort of Renekton-ish. So I guess that's the closest comparison I can give. Once again thanks for reading my guide and feel free to leave some feedback. Remember this is my first guide so don't be harsh :D
