Rize is an a recommended champ by riot and by me, is very good on mid lane.
Its easy to be good with rize but its hard to the best with it.
I choose this masteries cause of the cooldown reduction, ap, magic penetration, mana, quick recall, extra gold and experience. Good for faster evolution and gaining advantage from your enemies.
There are many ways to choose rize runes but there are 3 that i prefer.
You can choose to put a lot of mana per level (recommended) or not, you can chose ability power, or instead of that you can choose "seal" and "mark" of magic resistance per level and "Glyph" and "Quint" of mana per level. The last choice its what i use and is probably the best.
Ryze first skill normally is "W" for crowd control, but you can put "Q" too if prefer use it for farming.
At level 2 I advise you to level up "Q", has i said is really good for farming, it has low cooldown and he also gives cooldown reduction.
At level 3 you level up "E", that's really good to reduce magic resistance of target champion before you attack.
Consequently you level up "Q" for cooldown reduction, then "W" and finally "E", of course will level up your ultimate before each other skill.
As your summoner spells you may choose ghost to run away, and of course run to your enemies to get enough range for you "Q" skill, that he has extra low cooldown, and that makes you able to launch your skills every 2 seconds with this build.
You are maybe thing that we don't need ghost cause that ryze's ulty already gives a lot of movement speed, but it only gives you 55 movement speed (not 55%) for 7 seconds and that is low move and isn't enough time to kill a "tank" so you can alternate ghost and ulty for more move. And imagining that the enemies also have one move skill you will need more move that him.
And for second spell i advise you choose flash, its really nice to pass through the walls.
1º- First of all with ryze you need to put your options on smart cast, ryze need it a lot for faster spell casting.
2º- Always try to get closer to enemies enough for q spell but be careful about how closer you get specially vs melee attackers.
