Pros / Cons

Pros
- Great jungler (The best in my opinion)
- Great ganker
- Great escape artist
- The DPS output of Tiger stance is shockingly high.
- For what i have noticed Udyr can defend himselfe and kill chars that are 2 lvls higher than Udyr is (with practice offcource).

Cons
- No ranged skills
- Hard to master
- Without the movement items its hard to gank but with practice you whont have a problem
Back to Top

Summoner Spells

Smite - For faster jungling.
Keep in mind that the faster you jungle the more valueble you are to your team.
Ghost - Your gank and escape tool.
Ghost in combination with your movement speed and bear stance you will outrun everyone who crosses your path.

Runes

Greater Mark of Desolation - For bypassing armor
Greater Seal of Resilience - For armor against attack based chars
Greater Glyph of Warding - For magic resist against AP based chars
Greater Quintessence of Strength - For more attack power early to mid game

Greater Seal of Resilience combined with Greater Glyph of Warding will make hybrids run out of fear and wished they have never crossed your path.

Greater Mark of Desolation combined with Greater Quintessence of Strength will eat away there armor as if they never had armor to begin with.

Masteries

With masteries i go with the 21/0/9 build.
You can offcource edit the page to your own liking but be sure to put points in the following:

Plentiful Bounty - Gives you a bonus 5 gold and 5% cooldown on your Smite for faster jungling
HASTE - Gives your Ghost abbiltie a 8% more movement speed and the effect will last 1,5 sec longer
Awarness - Generates more exp for faster leveling

Skill Sequence

It's all about your Tiger stance so you whant to max this one out as soon as you have at least 1 point in Turlte stance and 1 in Bear stance.

Put your first point in Turtle stance because Turlte will give you more defense against the creeps and you whont have any mana and health problems when you are jungling. This being said you can now jungle longer with means you whont have to spend time recalling.

For your second point put it on Tiger stance. This will make your jungle go fast and this is the skill you whant to max out first for high DPS. (Keep in mind this is an Udyr Tiger stance based build and not a Pheonix stance build)

The third point goes to your Bear stance. It will give you a few bennefits like:
- Faster jungle because of your movement speed
- A 1 sec stun (Bear stance - stun - switch - Tiger stance and watch how the HP of your enemy get drained in a few hits)

When you have these stances max out Tiger stance first for more DPS and second max out Bear for more movement speed. Turtle stance will be your third to max out because you will only use this for a moment out off battle to regain HP and mana and usefull against skills the you can clearly see comming.

Pheonig Stance is your last thing to max out because in this build you are not gonna use it.

Skill explaination

Monkey's Agility

Udyr's attack speed is increased by 10% and dodge chance by 3% for 5 seconds each time he switches stances. This effect can stack up to 3 times. Switching stances sets off a 1.5 second global cooldown.

This is Udyr's passive, it gives you more dodge chance when you switch stances so you will be harder to hit. It works great for when you have to run away when needs to. Just switch from Bear stance to Turtle stance to yet again Bear stance and they won't catch you.

Tiger Stance

On his next attack, Udyr swipes at his target, making a normal attack and dealing 170% of his attack damage + extra damage over 2 seconds as magic damage. In addition, Udyr gains an attack speed buff that lasts 5 seconds for 5% less than his persistent attack speed, making his total increased attack speed 75%(35%+40%) at max level.

Persistent effect: Udyr's attack speed is increased.
Cost: 75 / 65 / 55 / 45 / 35 Mana
Extra Damage: 30 / 80 / 130 / 180 / 230
Attack Speed: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 %

For a DPS Udyr this is the best stance and needs to be maxed out first. It will give Udyr more AD and more attack speed plus an extra DOT effect witch is nice against fleeing enemies.

Turtle Stance

Udyr gains a shield, for 5 seconds, that absorbs damage.
Persistent effect: Udyr's attacks cannot crit, but he restores a percentage of his damage as health and mana.

Cost: 75 / 65 / 55 / 45 / 35 Mana
Damage Absorbed: 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+0.5 per ability power)
Health Restored: 12 / 14 / 16 / 18 / 20 %
Mana Restored: 9 / 10.5 / 12 / 13.5 / 15 %

Udyr's defensive stance and got to love this skill. It will give you a shield that absorbs damage and the damage done against an enemy conferts in to HP and mana. It's a good skill for when you run low on HP you can just visit the jungle and re-enter the fight once you have full HP without the need to recall.

Bear Stance

Udyr gains increased movement speed for a few seconds.
Persistent effect: Udyr mauls his target with such force that they are stunned for 1 second. This effect can only occur once every 6 seconds on the same target.

Cost: 75 / 65 / 55 / 45 / 35 Mana
Movement Speed: 15 / 18 / 21 / 24 / 27 %
Duration: 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 / 4 seconds

This is Udyr's gank/flee skill. It gives Udyr more movement speed and a stun that lasts a sec and offcource can be upgraded to last longer. Use this skill to gank unexpected enemies and use it when you have to flee from battle. It will also make you jungle much faster from the increased movement speed.

Phoenix Stance

Udyr sends out pulsing waves of fire dealing magic damage each second to nearby enemies for 5 seconds. In addition, during this time Udyr's ability power is increased and his attack damage is increased by half of that amount.
Persistent effect: Every third attack, Udyr engulfs the enemies in front of him in flames, dealing magic damage.

Cost: 75 / 65 / 55 / 45 / 35 Mana
Waves' Magic Damage: 10 / 18 / 26 / 34 / 42 (+0.25 per ability power)
Ability Power: 16 / 24 / 32 / 40 / 48
Attack Damage: 8 / 12 / 16 / 20 / 24
Third Attack Magic Damage: 40 / 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 (+0.25 per ability power)

Udyr's AoE skill that does magic dammage and gives you more attack damage. the skill is for a more AP orriented build and should not be used with this build.

Items

Early game

As soon as you start the game grabCloth Armor and 5health postions to get your all set up for jungling (By following this guide you will notice that by your first round of junlge you will end with 2 pots left unused. Use these pots when you are about to gank early game so you can gank with full HP). As soon as you have about 1350 recall back and pick up yourMadred's Razors and yourBoots of Speed and enter the jungle again. Keep on jungling and ganking if you like until you have about 1175 and finishWriggler's Lantern andBoots of Swiftness (With this setup with practice this will almost garanty a succesfull gank).

Mid game

You got your gank setup so now you whant to be more deadly in fights so pick upBlack Cleaver for more attack power and attack speed (trust me you will notice this item when you are in Tiger stance)and carry on until you have enough money to buyZeal. Now comes the tricky part. We need a little survivabilety so you have to look at your enemies item list.
Do they have 3 or more attack damage based chars, pick upRanduins Omen. Do they have 3 or more AP based chars, then pick upBanshees Veil (love this one). Be aware that if there are hybrids the consider the following:
Is the hybrid more attack based oriented or more AP based orriented.

You could also buy aThornmail wich will work great against melee champs plus you get a good amount of armor.

Late game

Firt off finishPhantom dancer for more attack speed with your Tiger stance and destroy turrets in under 5 seconds. Now for your last item you first have to look at your enemy item lis to pick the following:Infinity Edge (squishies love it) /Last Whisper (eats tanks for breakfast) or if you dont last long enough pick up some survivability but normally you whont even have to. The fun part about Udyr is that your jungling will give you a lot of money so spend it in extra elixers if you wish to.
Recently i have tryed outThe Bloodthirster and have some very good results with it so its another item to take in consideration.

Team Work

In teamwork Udyr shines like no other. Run up against an enemy while using Bear stance to stun the enemy. I suggest attacking sguishies and if there is a Malz or a Kat nearby stun them when they use there ulties because you will cancel ther ulti and will make them useless. Dont be afraid of you being taunted by a Rammus cause he will think twice after he taunted you while you are in Tiger stance (some of them forget that you dont use abbilities but stances).

Udyr is also a good help for helping your teammate out of trouble. Just stun there persuers so they whont catch your teammate in trouble.

Also a plus is that Udyr can push like crazy so when the enemy aint looking you can can easily destroy a turret or 2.

Creeping / Jungling

You know the items but now you need the right path to jungle.

I suggest starting at the blue buff initiating Turtle stance, pop a potion and keep using Turtle stance and use smite when it has low health, then followed by the wolfs innitiate with Tiger stance once and when the timer runs out switch to Turtle stance. Now follow the road to kill the 1 blue and 3 red creeps by first popping a pot and then innitiating Tiger stance to kill the blue one and Turtle stance finish the rest. By that time pop another pot and kill the red buff by innitiating Tiger stance followed by Tutrle stance followed by another Tiger stance, use smite and finish with Turtle stance. Now kill the Golems by initiating Tiger stance and finish with Turtle stance. Now it's up to the situtaion:

1. The enemy is on low HP then gank him by using Ghost - Bear stance - Tiger stance
2. If the enemy has a jungler to and the enemy is on full HP return to the Wolfs.
3. If the enemy has no jungler then and the enemy is on full HP, you can enter the jungle on the enemy side.

When you have Wiggle's Lantern you can Tiger stance everything without the need of Turtle stance. Use Turtle stance only to regain mana and if your very low on HP from ganks.

Alternate Jungle route (safest)

Sometimes the enemy will counter-jungle you and sometimes you will get a kill from it but lose a lot of HP when it's an early teamfight so here is the path you should take to not lose to much time.

I take in consideration that you know how to initiate so i will not explain that because its the same prencible.

After the enemy counter-jungle go directly to the small golems, kill wraths (the 1 blue and the 3 red ones), go for the blue buff and use smite, next stop are the wolfs and for your last jungle creep kill the red buff (smite should be up by now). If your lucky the small golems will respawn after you have killed the red buff so go kill them followed by the new respawend wraths. After this depending on how much pots you all ready have poped up against the counter jungle you can either recall or jungle the enemy side.

Red = Team down
Blue = Team up
Green = Alternate route

Gank Locations

When it comes to ganking the enemy, Udy shines like no other. Use Bear stance and if nescesary you can also use Ghost for your planned ganks.

Blue = Team up

Ward Placements

By following this build you will have a ward in your itembag in the form of a nice Wriggler's Lantern. When placing, it will last 3 min and has a cooldown of 3 min. Here are some locations where you can place a ward for better map control.

Summary

By the time you have masterd Udyr, you will see it's a great char for people who love to jungle and play a DPS playstyle.

I play ranked and normal games and get very good results and even complaments from other players.

Here are my results off my recent games:

If you have something to say or like to add some things or totally disacree with mee please do so and i will read your comments.
