This Guide shows how to play Ryze in Mid lane. I will say what to buy and tipps and tricks. I will not make a extra chapter for Items because there are many ways. But i will mention the built in the lane guide; Item Guide for 5v5 is in the 5v5 Chapter.

I´m from Germany and I´m not good at english but I hope you understand me. Pls dont write Comments like "Horrible Grammar" "I dont understand some Sentences" write what Sentence is wrong and why. I´m not very good at guide skripting, hope you understand that.

Who´s Ryze and why play him?

Ryze is a Blue Mana Pumped Man. His attacks are blue and electrifying and Mana operated and cost mana and.... so on. Anyway he´s a underrated champ who can be really really really OP (if you can play (good(a little(or not))))

In the last few weeks I begann to play Ryze again and I only play him anymore. Its ridiculous to troll enemys by winning a 2v1 Gank by using Rune Prison, Overload and Ult. Anyway the rest later.

There are many on Runeterra who are attracted to the study of magic or, in recent times, the emerging field of techmaturgy. For most, pursuit of such knowledge is formalized in a college or university. The halls of traditional study were never for Ryze, however, who felt a more raw and primal connection to the magic of Runeterra than those who tried to teach him. He struck out on his own as a young man to discover what already called to him. Ryze traveled the world, seeking the wisdom of powerful hermits, witches, and shamans - anyone who had something to share beyond what was taught in the city-states of Valoran. When he had learned all he could from these fonts of wisdom, Ryze turned to seek the lost, forgotten, and forbidden knowledge in the world, delving into mystical worlds where others feared to tread.

Ryze's tireless searching for magical knowledge led him to an ancient form of spellcraft known as thorn magic. This art required Ryze to tattoo spells on his body, permanently infusing his being with vast arcane power and finally fulfilling his need to bond with the mystical energies of Runeterra. His travels also led him to uncover the giant indestructible scroll he now carries on his back - the purpose of the inscribed spell remains a secret only Ryze knows. He claims it is an abomination - something that he must safeguard from the world. This has piqued the curiosity of many, though no one is sure how to separate the scroll from Ryze, or if it is possible to overcome the rogue mage to do so. Since then, Ryze has joined the League of Legends to study the magical creatures and powerful will-workers that fight there, in order to complete his exploration of mystical Runeterra.

Summoner Spells

Flash

Just a must have for Ryze in every Situation. A great Ability to strike down low enemies in a far direction; Jump over Walls; Escape from attacks; fail flashing. Take it, just take it.

Clarity

I would prefer to take this Ability because you will get out of mana early game or if you were long time not in base. This gives you survivability so that you do not have to go back all time. Its also useful if your teammates get out of mana.

Other Useful Spells:



Ignite

Ignite is a great Summoner Spell. Its most useful if you play 1vs1. Ignite is like Poison that do damage over time and all heals to the focused enemie just heal him 50% (I can not descripe it good just read the icon description). Ignite is still "alive" when you are dead and could kill the enemie Champion. But beware! Ignite also work on Minions and Jungle things. You must click precise. If you like to have this Spell than take it and replace it with Clarity.

Ghost

Ghost is all in all nice. It gives you more movement speedt. That helps you by running away or to enemies. If you can handle good with Ghost then Choose it instead of Clarity otherwise try it out by a bot game and if you dont like it than dont choose it.

What to do if I´m under Level 6 and cant handle with Ghost?


I would propose

Heal

I use this ability till i start playing LoL (long time) and it will safes your a-s-- butt in many situations. It works like Clarity just for HP but gives a Debuff as like as ignite.

Masteries/Runes

Masteries:



Take 9/0/21 as Masteries.
Click here to see it again
It will give you Magic Penetration, Mana, Mana Generation, Ability Power, CD reduction, Improved Summoner Spells, Spell Vamp and other nice stuff. Not much to say anymore here i think.



Runes:



Greater Glyph of Mana is for Mana. Ryze´s attacks Overload and Rune Prison getting stronger if you have more Mana. Thats why this is as useful as Ability Power.

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration is for Magic Penetration. A important element for Caster because it will break down the magic resist of the enemies and that cause more damage.

Greater Seal of Replenishment is for Mana Generation. This will improve your generation over time.

Greater Quintessence of Mana is for even more Mana. As said before its really important for Ryze.

I dont want to buy that crazy expensiv Runes or hadnt the EP for that!

Then buy Runes from Class 1. There arent as good as the others but still nice and really cheap.

-Start with Rune Prison to Block other Players who want to strike you early.
-Then learn Overload for killing Minions or a good combination with Rune Prison to hurt other champions hard.
-At Level 3 learn Spell Flux. I rather not built up this ability in my Standart Build.
-Then uprade Overload and Rune Prison up until lv 6
-At level 6 learn Desperate Power for sure.
-After that upgrade Overload 2 times, then Rune Prison and after that finally lv 5 for Overload.
-Now uprade Desperate Power
-Its time to complete Rune Prison. Uprade it 2 times.
-Now upgrade Spell Flux 2 times.
-Now Desperate Power again
-And last but not least complete Spell Flux


Spell Flux Built


I used to add this as a secondary Built. This built is effectiv against minions and 1v1.

Who is your Enemy and how do you confront him

Who is your Enemy and how do you confront him


Midlaning chars are often AP Carrys or AD Carrys with some exceptions like Akali or Katarina.
I list some Champions and tell you where you must take care and how you did defeat them (I do not put in everyone yet).

Ahri

Before Ahri is level 3 she is pretty easy to defeat. Shoot some Overload to her sometimes. You must take care when she get Level 3! Her Combo make high high high damage. She will shoot you with Charm then activate Fox-Fire and then Orb of Deception. You will take 40-60% of life after that. Therefore you must take care of here Charm. She will going in Circles and seek a hole between the minions. Look all time where she is. If she have found a gap go directly after behind a minion. If there is none run in zig zag so she will get confused. After she reach Lv. 6 she will make probably the same tactic but use her ulti aswell to make extra damage. If you Combinate your attacks with Ryze she will probably run away with Spirite Rush. Do not follow her! Its to late anyway.

Akali

Akali´s only attack she can damage you with at the begining is Mark of the Assasine. For all her other abilitys she need to be close to you. Anyway in this time you MUST dominate her. Harras her as much as you can. Attack her with Rune Prison and Overload so that she is afraid of you but do not follow here through the minions. Attack her if she comes to close to minions. Why harras so much? Easy, If Akali reach Lv.6 she will harras you. She can easy jump to you with Shadow Dance and Combo attacks and then run back again with Twilight Shroud. Do not feed the akali, let the akali feed you! If she dont get any money by minions or kills she will be weak in late game.

Cassiopeia


Say hi to you badass enemy. Medusa is pretty squishy and easy to kill after a few skill but in early game its hard to harras her. Her Noxius Blast did much damage, have low CD and low Mana quite like Overload. Best tactic is to walk altime in different direction so she cannot easiely damage you. Second Problem: Miasma This Ability also poison you and it slows! But quite easy to avoid. Third Problem: Twin Fang If you get poisond run away from her! She will bite you very fast successively and you will take much damage. But she is quite easy to kill. After one Overload, Rune Prison and Spell Flux she will lose around 50% of her life. At Level six its hard to kill her even in groups. If you and your Jungler or someone else want to gank her try to organize that one of you stand behind her so that she can only stun one with Petrifying Gaze.

Gragas


Oncle Gragas is often played AP; very often; only. Anyway his Barrel Roll will might be his first ability. He use it to kill minions and hurt you. Playing against Gragas in early game is pretty easy. You can harras him easy and his only dangerous ability is Barrel Roll. If he reach Lv. 6 its getting dangerous. His Combo of Exploding Cast and all his other abilitys will kill you or take you many many life. You know when he use his ultimate if you walks towards you even if there are minions on his way . Then go to tower and hope that he fails his ult by pushing you towards your Tower.

Heimerdinger


Heimerdinger is a annoying pusher. He will place turrets all the time and attack you with his Hextech Micro-Rockets. If he place his H-28G Evolution Turret kill it as soon as possible. This turret gives you gold and exp! If he go close to you he will use Hextech Micro-Rockets. Then use Overload and Runeprison to damge him. He will go back by taking more damage then you do ;). At Level. 6 He can upgrade all his ability including his turrets. If it comes to an 1v1 attack only heimerdinger because if he dies his turrets do too. If he is going to run, placing turrets and use ult do not follow him! The turret will kill you.

Lux


First lady is very dangerous! With her Light Binding and Lucent Singularity she will stun slow and kill you. That why you must be very alert where she shoots her abilitys. As before harras a bit by attacking her and move to the side so that you cannot get hit by her abilities. Do not follow her if you know that she can use Light Binding! Otherwise you will stuck and probably get damaged by Lucent Singularity and normal hit. Lv.6! Now its getting more dangerous! From now on she had her Finales Funkeln.
Be prepared to get damaged by it if you have low Life. If you are going to go back DO NOT stay behind the turret!! This is the most common place where people go back and she will use her Ultimate to that direction! Wait untill you can gank with you teammates and attack her then. Its hard to kill her alone.

Morgana


Morgana´s Dark Binding is like Lux´s Light Binding just darker. Morgana might take Tormented Soil first to strike down creeps. At Level one you can easiely harras her by using Rune Prison and so on. The only think to take care of is to avoid her Dark Binding. If you get hit she might use Tormented Soil. That make some heavy damage and heals up Morgana because of her Soul Siphon. If she gets Lv. 6 she is getting dangerous.
If you get hit by Dark Binding then this might happen: you get stuck, you get damage from Tormented Soil, you get damage by Soul Shackles, you get stuned by Sould Shackles, your screen getting gray. Noteworthy is that your Rune Prison doesnt effect if Morgana uses her Black Shild on her.

Ryze


Oh oh hmmm ok double Ryze. Thats a problem. Here you can prove that you are a better Ryze player then the others.

Veigar


Care Veigar is evil! Vaigar is one of the most squishys in early game. But its still not easy to kill him. He can stun you with Event Horizon and then use Dark Matter and Baleful Strike to defeat you. If he cast Event Horizon and you dont getting stuned directly then stay in the circle and try to avoid his Dark Matter without getting stunned. In this time damage him with Overload and all your other abilities. If you have low life and vaigar casted Event Horizon then Flash over it. You will not getting stuned and stay alive (unless he used Baleful Strike or Primordial Burst).


I stop here for now because i didnt have much experience against enemies like Karthus, Fizz or Viktor but I will try to put in more soon.

Summoner Rift: Mid Laning Early Game(general Information for Beginners incl

Welcome Choosen One,
You want to learn the way to mid laning with Ryze?
Okey, Here it is:



Champion-choosing:


Say your teammates that you´re going to take mid! If anybody else play chars like Annie, Ahri and so on than asks him/her to take another char. Do not cry or shout out loud stuff like "STFU NOOB AND TAKE SOMEONE ELSE" "I report you" "Noob". If they still dont take another Char and there is already a top laner and a AD Carry choose another Champion or leave. Ryze isnt a jungler or a support.

Base:


At the Beginning you are in Base (of course). If someone of the Enemies have Clairvoyance they will use it right after finishing loading to see what youre buying. If this so stay in base, dont buy anything and wait until the Eye is away.

Items


In the first 1:30 before Minions have spawned you get 475 Gold. There are 17 Items you can buy with 475 or less Gold. Many of them are useless for Ryze just like Doran's Blade or Brawler's Gloves. This items are useful or less useful for Ryze in early game:

Top Tier




Sapphire Crystal is the best item for Ryze you can buy first. It gives you 200 Mana. This is like +35 Ability Power and also 3 Free Abilitys. Tear of the Goddess will use Sapphire Crystall.
Health Potion and Mana Potion will give you survivability.


Mid Tier:





Doran's Ring is with the other Doran items very good at start. It gives you 100 Health, 15 Ability Power and 5 Mana Generation per 5 Sek. But Doran's Ring kost exactly 475 Gold and you dont get Mana you need. Also Doran's Ring cant get upgraded to anything.



This is a fully regenerative set. Rejuvenation Bead is pretty cheap and gives you 8 health per 10 seconds. Faerie Charm is the cheapest not consumeable item ingame and improve you mana generation by 3 per 10 seconds. Also you can buy a Mana Potionbecause Fearie Charm is after all weak and its for suvivability. Upgrade you Faerie Charm then to Philosopher's Stone and sell your Rejuvnation Bead.

2x 1x

Boots of Speed give you more movement (Lv.1) but nothing else. Anyway its quite cheap and will be upgradet to Sorcerer's Shoes. Also you will have enough money to buy Health Potion and Mana Potion for survivability. If you play often like this you can go with this items; if you are new take the top tier.

Low Tier



or

Amplifying Tome is pretty useless for Ryze. It just gives you 5 More Ability Power than Doran's Ring but without Mana Genereation or life. Also its "expensive" and doesnt fit in to any early game item. Better use Top or mid tier.



Meki Pendant is quit good but still worse than Sapphire Crystal and co. Its Mana generation is 7 per 10 Seconds and its cheap but not perfect/good. Its even better to buy Mana Manipulator because it make 7,2 Mana per 10 Seconds but cost 475 Gold.


1:40-1:55 :


At 1:40 Jungle Creeps like Wolves, Wraiths and Golems spawn. At 1:55 the Big Golem and The Elder Lizard spawn. If you Jungler ask for it than Pull the minions.
How to?
Every Minion is behind a wall. If the jungler stand before the spawning Monsters you can see the region. When they are spawned attack them with a normal attack and go to your lane again.
The Monsters will follow you but wont hurt you. That gives the Jungler time to strike them down


Farming Farming Farming:


At 1:30 the Minions have spawned. There are 4 Different Types of Minions. The meeles with middle life and armor, the squishy Mages, The Cannon Masters with many HP and the Superminions. You get more money from ~20 Minions than from a Champion kills. Thats why there are so important. You only need to last hit them and you get the money.

This is how you shouldnt do it:

Dont attack them from the beginning on and hope that you get the kill. This is way to unreliable.

This is how you should do it:

If the minion only have ||::::::::: around that HP then attack thim with a normal attack. You will get money and Ryze is Happy. After some Practise you can do it perfectly. Its pretty easy.

If a Minion have |:::::::::: HP and another ||::::::::: HP attack the one wiht | HP and then use Overload to kill the other one because the minions would probably killes the other one already. The last tipp: Do not just stay at a place because if the champion stay he will auto attack, walk around a bit.

Harrasing


Harrasing is when you keep your enemie away from minions so that he didnt get exp or gold.
Harras you enemys by using Overload then Rune Prison then Spell Flux and again [[Overload]. With this combination you enemy get heavy damage.
If you enemy try to harras you use Rune Prison and maybe Overload and run a bit away.
Now you know how to harras and how to stop getting harrased.
One last thing: If you enemy getting feed or just dominate you lane then stay at tower and dont go toward him. If you do you will probably not getting harrased you will get killed.

Ganks


From Lv.2-Lv.4 its time to gank or getting ganked. Maybe no one gank because there is no jungler or the junglers go gank top/bot. Take an eye where the Jungler can be or where he was last time.

Getting Ganked:
If you getting ganked then use Rune Prison to the Jungler not to your lane enemy! The Jungler often have CC skills and the red buff that slows you. Then flash away and run to you tower. Wait there untill you lane is in safe and go farming again. You can avoid ganks by staying in the middle of the mid lane. From there you have enough time to run back. If you pushed to far (to the enemy tower) then do not attack the tower. The chance to die by ganks here is 99%. You can see when you get ganked when the enemy come close to you even if its sure that you would win a 1v1 battle.

Ganking Enemys:
When your Jungler is ready to gank then tell him he should walk to the enemy. Right after the Jungler have a good range and the enemy didnt expect him flash towards the enemy and use Overload. Direcly after it use Rune Prison so that your enemie cannot avoid and then Spell Flux and every other attacks you can use. You have a 60% that the Gank work and you get a kill. If the enemy flashes away with out any slow on it or he is to close to the tower then do not follow him. At least you harras and getting more exp then you enemy.

First time Back



If you health is going under 20% and you enemy is in base then go back. If your enemy is still pushing ask the jungler so that he can the time when you are back.

Here are the items you should buy:

Coming back with 0-300 Gold:
You did something wrong. Anyway the only thing you can buy are Potions. Buy 2 Mana Potion and 2 Health Potion and go back to your lane.


Coming back with 300-595 Gold:
Buy Boots of Speed for more movement speed. Also buy some Potions again. If you go back with that less money then you do not farm good or you get fast out of mana.

Coming back with 595-945 Gold:
You farm well but you should improve it. Buy Tear of the Goddess for more mana, mana regeneration and a useful passiv skill. Also your Saphirr Cystal will be used for this.


Coming back with 945-1345 Gold:
You are really good farmer, and killer. I guess you did a kill if you get so many gold. Anyway, Buy Tear of the Goddess for more mana, mana regeneration and a useful passiv skill and Boots of Speed for Movement speed.


Coming back with 1345-1805 Gold:
Wow, really much gold you get there. Buy the same stuff as above but improve your Boots of Speed to Sorcerer's Shoes for 20 Magic Penetration and Movement speed.

Coming back with 1805+ Gold:
You´re Ryze skills are incredible. Now buy Tear of the Goddess, Boots of Speed and Blasting Wand for Ability Power.

Summoner Rift: Mid Laning Mid Game

Mid Game starts from Lv. 9 to Lv. 15. Now its time to leave you lane and going to teamfights. Now I will tell you what to do in teamfights and what to buy.




Further Ganks:


As a mid laner its time to gank bot or top. The enemy might does it too. If your enemy on you lane is missing then say "ss" to warn you mates that they could get ganked.
If you see that youre teammates are in trouble like 3v2 in top lane then go and help them out.
If the enemies Tower dive and you just arrived the top lane then use Rune Prison to the enemie who get attacked by the tower and attack the other enemies around him so that all take damage. Dont forget to activate Desperate Power From now on your teamates should going in the fight aswell if they have more then 30% of life. Use as much skills as you can. The enemies will take heavy damage by the turret, you and your teammates.
Then they will try to run or to kill atleast one. If they run use Rune Prison to the nearest Enemie and strike him down. If they chase use Rune Prison to the enemie who is closest to your teammates. If the enemy tank goes to tank tower then do not stop him, stop the character who make most damage and focus him.


Teamfights


Teamfight happen altime when every or nearly everyone in you team fighting against the enemie team. Sometimes they happen because of pushing a lane and sometimes they happen because a Lane get ganked and everyone comes to help.
You as a AP Carry might get the focus. Stay behind or besides the others. Let the Tank, Offtank or most resistent char in you team go forward so he get the aggro. At the moment when your tank goes into the enemies he use his CC´s skills (if present). Choose the most damage maker (AD Carry) and focus him. If he stays in group use ult for 50% AoE damage. One or two others in your team shell also focus the AD Carry because you cant kill him alone. Anyway after hes dead the enemie team will also focus the most squishy target, like you. If possible run in a bush. If not possible try to use as much abilitys as you can to get some life ( Desperate Power gives you Spell Vamp) and hope that your team comes to help you.

Core Items and Situation Items



Core items you need are:




Sorcerer's Shoes for Lv. 2 Movement speed and 20 Magic Penetration. This is effectiv in anyway. You abilitys make more damage to everything because wiht Magic Penetration you break a amount of their armor.

Archangel's Staff is a must have. With its Passiv you get 4 Mana per using any ability (Max 1000 Mana) and 3% of you mana turns into Ability Power. Thats why you dont need Ability Power items at the beginning. Also you get 45 Ability Power, 400 Mana and 25 Mana Gen.

Frozen Heart is after Archangel' Staff the most powerful weapon for Ryze. With its 500 Mana you boost your Archangel' Staff and your Abilities. With Frozen Heart you are superior against AD Carrys because of 99 Armor and the passiv that enemies attack speed is 20% slower. And it reduce your CD by 20%. If you fight against heavy AD buy this before Will of the Ancients if not buy it after.


Will of the Ancients



Even if Will of the Ancients is no Core item i would prefer to buy it before Frozen Heart. Its spell vamp is very important. Even if your ult give you ability power you should take this because the effect of Desperate Power during for a short time and Will of the Ancients strengthen the effect. Will of the Ancients is a Powerful of item in teamfights, it gives your teammates some Spell vamp and anyone in your team do Spells aswell.
But as said above if you have hard AD damage buy Frozen Heart before.

Summoner Rift: Mid Laning Late Game

Late game is from Lv.15 to Lv.18. Now its time to push, kill Baron and buy late game items.



Pushing



Its late game and it seems like no one surrender. Now its time to push. Push means to destroy enemies tower and penetrate to the nexus to win the game. But the enemies want the same. Pushing is the most common way how Teamfight happen. Teamgfights are explained above.
Anyway in late game normaly the first towers in both teams are destroyed. After you win a Teamfight then push and destroy the Tower were Minions already pushed.
If your team is stricken then def you towers and do not push. The enemies will do. Stay altime at tower so that the enemies couldnt kill you. Sometime the enemies will dive or push other lanes. If they dive do the same like I said it in "Further Ganks".

Baron



Baron Nashor is the strongest Jungle Monster in game. Killing him gives you the Exalted with Baron Nashor Buff. Exalted with Baron Nashor gives you more
-Ability Power
-Attack damage
-3% of your maximum health in health regeneration per 5 sec
-1% of your maximum mana in mana regeneration per 5 sec.

To get this Buff is important. Killing Baron is nearly impossible. Kill Baron to fourth or fifth. Ward this region know that the enemies try to kill him. If they are trying to kill Baron then mark it with signal so your team know it. If they are attacked by Baron its the perfect time to gank them because they are weakened and with Baron its like 5v6. If its to late then stop ganking them because withh Exalted with Baron Nashor they are superior.

Late Game Items]



After you bought all Core items including Will of the Ancients buy this:


Rod of Ages gives you 525 Mana (most in game), 450 Health and 60 Ability Power. Rod of Ages passiv with its level up generation is useless if you are Lv. 18 but the stats are great for Ryze. Also his second passiv gives you Mana, Health and Ability Power per Minute.

Rabadon's Deathcap is the last item you should buy. With 140 Ability Power and 30% Bonus Ability Power this is the most Powerful Item for AP Carrys. Its just nice for the end to get as much extra damage as possible.

Elixir of Brilliance and Elixir of Fortitude are both consumeables. If you built is compledet and then you cannot buy anything else except of this two potions, Elixir of Agility and Oracle's Elexir. Buy these two potions gives you Ability Power, Reduced Cooldown, Health and Attack damage for 4 Minutes. You dont need to buy Elixir of Agility because Crit chance and Attack speed is useless for Ryze.

Banshee's Veil



If you get heavy AP Damage its important to buy Banshee's Veil. Replace it with Rod of Ages. With the shild of Banshee's Veil you are immun to grabs,stuns,slows,charm etc. and to every other negativ ability. The shild comes every 45 Sec.
