thank you guys for the advice. Some item variations I've been tinkering with is after taking Tear of the Goddess I get banshee's wail against a team with casters or Frozen shroud against a melee heavy team. Also I'm getting really fond of Manamune on Ryze. 1.) helps with Last Hitting creeps 2.) helps with dealing that little extra damage vs foes. 3.) Cheap Cheap Cheap! I will update this build from time to time to reflect what choices I personally like in it and what I don't.

Try getting the E first instead of rune prison. Its a good spammer for heroes couple with ur overload. It has longer range than rune prison and costs 60 mana (compared to 80 rune prison). Plus lowers magic resist. Complement ur overload well.

Ryze needs mana, which you accomplish getting. However... you can get more mana with more survivability. AP, tbh, sucks on ryze. something to consider.

WHAT??? you Q on almost every creep? I know I'm new to the game but you sir are just plain stupid. All you are supposed to do is Last hit creeps and Harass the opposing Laner(s) as much as you can. You don't want to Push your lane until level 9-10 you want to control the XP your opposing laner is getting by controlling the field around the creeps by level 10 if you did your job right your opponent is either level 8 or they just left the lane altogether to switch with someone. I'm sorry but I cannot take anything you say seriously and you obviously don't know how to play well. RoA should definitely NOT be the first item you acquire.

That i tell you is a good build.
I used it alot and you need the mana at the start.
Ryze is a creeper so i use Q on almost every creep i can, and that costs mana.

Needs more mana? what item could I put in mid game for extra mana? Rod of Ages is actually subpar in the build altogether and I was planning on taking it out because Ryze isn't about AP anymore it's all about the Mana I was thinking of putting something like Glacial Shroud in. Thanks for testing it but perhaps you just didn't use it well... I don't see how this build "sucks" it does massive damage and has good resilience.
