Introduction

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ ALL THE GUIDE AS THE ABOVE ITEMS DO NOT APPLY FOR ALL GAME SITUATIONS!!! THANKS :)

Ryze is one of, if not the best AP nukers in the game, who is able to deal incredible high damage to enemy champions. In this guide I will show you how to master Ryze the nuke!

I won't make this guide too long I'll only tell you the important things.
And now, I hope you'll enjoy my guide, and watch your enemies crumble to your devisting nuke abilities, and laugh as the helpless foes shout "HAXOR CHEATER" in chat! :P

Story

Ryze, The Rogue Mage

The halls of traditional study were never for Ryze, who felt a more raw and primal connection to the magic of Runeterra than those who tried to teach him. As a young man, he travelled the world, seeking the wisdom of powerful hermits, witches, and shamans. When he had learned all he could, Ryze turned to seek the lost, forgotten, and forbidden knowledge in the world. This led him to an ancient form of spell craft known as thorn magic. This art required Ryze to tattoo spells on his body, infusing his being with vast arcane power. His travels also brought him to the giant indestructible scroll he carries on his back. The purpose of the inscribed spell is a secret only Ryze knows. However, he claims it is an abomination, something that he must safeguard from the world. Today, Ryze has joined the League of Legends to study the magical creatures and powerful will-workers that fight there, in order to complete his exploration of mystical Runeterra.

On the field of battle, Ryze is a magical powerhouse. Channeling the power of the arcane through his tattoos, he unleashes deadly electrical blasts at his foes. He can also channel such primal power through himself, chaining lightning strikes from foe to foe. His very being has become a magic sponge, absorbing mana from his enemies. Ryze is also capable of calling on forces that lock an enemy in place, rendering it a helpless opponent. Like a tiger, he is never more deadly than when his time is almost up when he is badly hurt, the mojo of his tattoos makes him even more powerful.

"There is no doubt. Ryze is no longer a mage -- he has become a creature of magic."

Terms

Not all of these terms are used in my build but they are usefull to know!

b = back, fall back, they're coming for you

back = fall back, they're coming for you

care = be careful, they may be coming for you

oom = out of mana

lom = low on mana

IAS = Increased Attack Speed

focus = To target a specfic player.

top, mid, bottom = the lanes in LoL. With the flip camera option, the top and bottom may be switched for some people.

lane = the road that contains towers and lead to and from the two teams respective bases.

river = The river which cuts across the map diagonally

jungle = The mass of trees and paths that exist between the lanes

neuts = neutral creeps

neutrals = The AI controlled enemies who live in the jungle

creeps = Team spawned minions

bp, pill, pilling = blue pilling, going back to base

base, basing = going back to base

shop,buy = To go back to base to go shopping

brush = The large grass in LoL which causes your hero to be hidden to people outside of the brush

grass = brush

sigils = Temporary buffs granted to a player by defeating the Golem and the Elder Lizard. These buffs transfer to the killer in the event that the hero dies with the sigil.

buff = Typically a temporary increase to some stat(s)

passive = An ability which is not activated but helps a character.

aura = A 'passive' which applies not only to the hero who has it, but also to heroes within the given range for the aura. A shareable passive.

dd = direct damage ability. Typically DDs are unavoidable

skillshot = an ability that fires a projectile that can be dodged. For example: Ashes ultimate arrow

aoe = area of effect

pbaoe = point blank area of affect. The area of effect is centered around the caster

backdoor= To attack the enemies towers and base without the cover of your minions there

ult = ultimate ability. The R Ability.

unique = In LoL certain auras/passive are unique, meaning they do not stack.

last hit = Getting the very last hit, or killing blow.

AP = Ability Power. The stat which boosts the effectiveness of magical abilities.

miss, mia = Missing, missing in action. Commonly used to describe when a hero is missing from a lane and may indicate to the team that a gank may occur.

juke, juking = When being chased, juking is to fool your pursuers.

feed = A player who dies constantly feeds the other team (via the gold reward for killing someone). Being called a feeder is not a compliment. A player who is fed has a lot of kills.

gg = good game.

bg = bad game, these occur too often to my liking unfortunately.

gj = good job.

ms = movement speed

baron, nashor, worm = the big worm like boss that gives a noticeable buff to the whole team when killed.

gl hf - good luck, have fun, usually an encouraging sportsmanlike phrase said before a match

push - to gather up a creep wave and attempt to destroy an enemy tower "I'm going to push top"

d, defend - to sit at a tower and/or inhibitor and attempt to avoid confrontation while stopping the enemy from killing the objective "I'm gonna d mid"

gank - to go (often with more than one player) to try and kill an enemy, often by surprise "lets gank bottom"

tp - summoner spell telleport used to traverse the map "Ill tp back in"

heal - either the summoner spell, a champion ability, or the act of returning to base to regenerate HP and mana "you should heal"

harass - to annoy the enemy with small bursts of non lethal damage, often forcing them to go heal or be set up for a gangk.

bait - to deliberately appear in a position to be easily killed so as to lure 1 or more players to be gangked by your team "go bait them in to the jungle".

Disable = A Disable is a debuff that usually prevents some kind of action on the player. Stuns, roots, silences are all examples of disables

Stun = A debuff which prevents any action by a champion (summoner spells excluded)

Root = A debuff which prevents any movement by a champion (summoner spells excluded)

Silence = A debuff which prevents any abilities being used by a champion (summoner spells excluded)

Farm = Farming involves the amassing of gold for player. This is usually best done by killing a lot of creeps and killing them very quickly. Certain Heroes like Ashe and Tristana are great farmers: The first has a +gold passive, and the latter has an AOE passive.

CC - Crowd control (but in this context actually means stuns)

QQ - People crying/rage quitting.

PUG - Pick-up game - randoming with other people.

Thanks to DryWater for posting these on a forum.

Pro's and Con's

PROS
- Big damage dealer
- Easily farm creeps with spell flux
- Ultimate is really useful as it does AoE on all abilities
- Rune Prison can be good in team fights also early game
- With runes and items manna is not a big issue
- Enemys will say things like "how the **** did he kill me?" and you can laugh :D

CONS
- Good teams will focus you
- If you are silenced you are usless
- If you dont finish off an enemy with your full ablity combo they have time to hit you while your ablities are on cooldown.

Good Laning Partners

I find good laning partners with Ryze are:

- Annie (two nukes = massive damage, my friend plays Annie and we allmost allways dominate the laning Phase)

- Morgana (Two stuns Morgana and Ryze work well together.

- Blitzcrank (If he grabs an opponent with his arm Rune Prison them and you can take them out no problem)

- Garren (To be honesnt I dont really know why they work well together but every game I have laned with Garren we seem to dominte)

- Rammas (Great combo taunt and then rune prison)

- Crazy Smurf Suggested
Pantheon and Twisted Fate as Pantheon has his stun and massive Physical Damage and Fate as well for the stun and quick damage output (AD/Hybrid).

- And generally anyone who has a good stun or slow.

FEEL FREE TO GIVE ME ANY SUGGESTIONS REGARDING LANING PARTNERS IN THE COMMENTS.

Abilities

Here I will explain Each of his abilites.

Arcane Mastery is a decnt passive because you can use your Spell Flux 3 times in cooperation with a blue buff during your ultimate if your playing correctly.

Overload deals masssive damage you should use it last in your spell combo for the finishing blow!

Spell Flux is a great early game spell. If you manage to bounce it between two champions it will deal massive damage.

Your ultimate gives you a good amount of AP and allows you to deal 65% splash damage with your spells with your Ultimate enabled Flux is very powerful.

Masteries + Runes

You can chose increased mana instead of movement speed but the extra movement speed can be VERY helpful when your Rune prison is just out of range and you need to catch them.

For Runes you should use this:

Greater Mark of Insight x9 to penetrate enemys magic resistance and dealing more damage.

Greater Seal of Vitality x9 to have more life, or
Greater Seal of Clarity x9 to have a good mana regeneration for the early-game.

Greater Glyph of Focus x9 to have lesser CD's, for faster casting your spells, or
Greater Glyph of Force x9 to have more AP.

Greater Quintessence of Fortitude x3 to have more startlife and you can hold your lane longer.

or

Greater Quintessence of Potency x3 second alternative to have a nice amount of Ability Power at start to surprise your enemy with high start damage :)

At the moment I am testing the runes but these are the main ones to consider.

If my calculations are correct the runes should cost you around 19065 Influence Points.

Gameplay

Early Game

If you are mid early game you are pretty weak so just farm with Spell Flux. Try to harras the opponent with Spell Flux to keep them at relativly low health until you are level 6. Once level 6 you should have all your abilities. Look for an oppertuninty to Ultimate -> Flash -> Spell Flux -> Rune Prison -> Overload -> and Ignite if nessessary. If you are in a double lane you will want to rush the bushes with your partner (if he has a decent amount of health) and try to catch both enemies next to each other to Spell Flux and then Ignite to deal huge early game damage! Sometimes your opponents really under estimate you at level 1 and will keep fighting to only realise they are dead in seconds! :D

Mid Game

Mid game is a great opportunity to get ganking and stack some Mejai's if you have it.
Look for enemies with low health and wait in the bush untill they come foward too much or there is a battle going on. Jump out the bush destroy the opponent. You are fragile so never just run blindlessly into bushes at this stage if you dont know where the other team are - allways get a tank to incinate and you have to stay at the back shooting your spells.

Late Game

So you should have most of your items now and the teams fights will be happening.When there is a team fight Flash in there and target the most fragile enemy and use your abilities in this order: "R" ---> "W" ----> "E" ----> "Q" It should kill him and with your ultimate active it should do a high amount of AoE damage to every one around him! Dont inicitate you are very fragile, jump in as the battle's going on!

Items

This section is very important becuase Ryze really needs to vairey items to situations.

Well first you will want to buy

Dorans Ring

That gives you a nice HP boost, some mana regeneration and 15 Ability Power. This allowes you to stay longer in your lane, no matter if it's mid lane or a double lane.

Also you will want to get a

Health potion

As next item you buy either:

Sorcer's Boota

or

Ionian Boots

I WOULD GO FOR IONINA BOOTS IF YOU WANT FLAT AP RUNES, BUT IF YOU HAVE COOLDOWN RUNES MABEY SOCERERS BOOTS CAN BE BETTER - I PERSONALLY GO FOR IONIA BOOTS AS I USE AP RUNES AND COOLDOWNS ON RYZE'S ABILITIES CAN BE LONG.

Next item should be:

Rod Of Ages
You get a good amount of HP, MANA, and Ability Power and additionally it increases every minute up to 10minutes.

Next item my favorite! :) Mejais!:
Mejai's Soul Stealer
Obviously dont get it if you are not getting kills or assists mabey get it later once you get more powerful items and you are getting kills.

Now you can SELL

your:
Dorans Ring

And buy:
Tear of the Godess
Back to Top

Items Continued.

Had a problem adding more to the last section so I had to make a new one. Anyway after Tear of the Godess you will want to buy:Needlessly Large Rod first then upgrade it toRabadonas Death Cap

Now, you look at the enemy team, if there are some champions with a high amount of magic resistance you should buy:
Void Staff
It gives you 40% magic penetration to kill some tanks :).

Now you will want the:Archangles Staff

Last Item to buy: If you did not previously buy:Void Staff

As last item you can choose which you like, you could buy a defensive item likeThornmail AGAINST AN AD TEAM!

OR
Banshees Veil AGAINST AN AP TEAM!

________________________________________________________________________________

USEFULL TIP!:

IF YOU HAVE LOTS OF MONEY AFTER COMPLETING BUILD YOU CAN SELLROD OF AGES FOR ANOTHERARCHANGLES STAFF

ALSO!

BUY ALL EXLIXARS:THEY ARE VERY HELPFUL!
