Early into the game:
I would highly stress that getting last hits is very important, I may also add that harassing with your Spell flux is very effective and is a very good way to last hit those minions.

Mid way into the game:
You should have your arch and have or started building a Mejais. Note only get a Mejais if you're getting fed, if not just start working on the Rabadons. If you're not getting lots of kills don't worry about it at all. Ryze is a great late game champ and can carry very easily.

Later in the game:
You should be hitting around 1k+ AP and nuking anyone down. Pretty much impossible to 1v1 and with a flash you'll be able to steamroll a kid and flash out.


I would also highly recommend that you use your ultimate ability,Desperate Power, first before laying down the snare and other abilities, since it has a really low cooldown and costs no mana, I would try to use it a very good amount of times.
