My name is Bigg Fuddgee and this is my 2nd guide on MoBafire! I'm known for my unconventional builds such as my first guide AP Skarner.
This guide is going to be on constant construction as I play amumu and perfect this guide.
Without further ado...How to carry with Amumu!
Intro to AP MuMu
It sounds quite unconventional but let me explain how this works...
Amumu is underrated as an AP because of his tanking abilities but what if I told you he could do both? Well he can!!! His ratios and constant damage makes him totally viable for AP and his huge AoE and team presence do not hurt either. Even his passive of Mr helps him.
Spells & Abilities
Flash is a must as amumu needs to be able to position his ult correctly to sway teamfights
Smite for faster jungle.
I prefer to max Tantrum faster than Despair because tantrum provides burst damage on ganks and reduced damage Amumu takes in jungle. Other than that Bandage Toss should be taken at 3 or 4 depending on how you want to gank.
Hunter's Machete because it just helps so much to get 10% extra damage on his Aoe Despair
Sorcerer's boots for faster movement speed in ganks
Rylai's Crystal Scepter for perma slow on Despair
Spirit of the Spectral Wraith for faster jungle speed and the spell vamp allows you to stay out on the field more.
The full build explained:
Amumu's damage comes from the combo of Rylai's Crystal Scepter and Liandry's Torment because torment does more damage when targets are slowed and with Amumu they are perma-slowed.
Liandry's Torment sadly only does current health...but that's not a problem because Amumu has sustained minor damage through his Despair so he receives maximum potential from this item.
Cursed Touch + Abyssal rod + Void Staff + sorcerer's boots + Liandry's Torment = you almost doing true damage.
Well you aren't the tankiest person with those items....well we throw in Sunfire Cape 40 true damage in Aoe + Despair + Liandry's Torment is a lot of constant damage.
Sunfire Cape gives armor, health and abyssal gives MR and Rylai's Crystal Scepter gives you health as well as the minor amount of health from Liandry's Torment makes you tanky enough to destroy teams.
I know they look really weird....usually with champions you go 21/9 on some tree....The problem is you need points in offense for the magic pen, but the increase in AP isn't needed as you are stacking a hat.
At the same time utility is needed for Runic Affinity but going past that isn't worth it.
And the rest of the points are put into defense for some more tankiness.
Greater Mark of Magic Penetration Needed for late game.
Greater Seal of Armor needed for surviving the jungle.
Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power for that late game AP amount.
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed for more successful ganks.
