Introduction

As soon as I can, I'll provide you information about why Muramana instead of Seraph's Embrace. Skills, combos, a whole bunch of explanations! and of course, an introduction.

...soon.

Pros / Cons

+ Pros +
  • Very high rate of spell spamming.
  • Q ( Overload) has 2 cd and does most of his damage.
  • All spells are target type: can't miss.
  • Ultimate Desperate Power has very low cd.
  • Very strong late game.
  • Causes trouble to AD champs, specially if Frozen Heart and Iceborn Gauntlet are part of his build.
  • Spell Flux is almost perfect against melee champions like Kha'Zix.
  • His spells stacks with his maximum mana
  • Rune Prison: almost instant snare.
  • Appears in all Riot's official cinematics. (jk)
- Cons -
  • Low ranged spells.
  • Vulnerable early game.
  • Needs to manage his mana very well.
  • Only has 1 CC spell ( Rune Prison), it's mana expensive and a weak one.
  • Doesn't have spells to break long channeling ones ( Absolute Zero, Bountiful Harvest, Death Lotus...)
  • Low early damage. (until his Q is lvl 3)
  • Lots of practice is required.
  • Banshee's Veil doesn't give mana anymore.

"Maybe a neutral fact": when enemies doesn't know that Ryze's spells stacks in mana, he could be underestimated by both (allies and enemies) unless you clarify the idea only to your team, then it becomes a noobish positive (for noobs, of course :P).

Summoner Spells

I'd rather stick with the classic ones:

Ignite
Yes, you'll need it specially in early game, your spells wouldn't be enough all the time unless you get fed killing 10 different champs.

Flash
I use it specially to go through the walls or ramps, just to chase or to get away.

Options (never ever tried then with Ryze, honestly)

Ghost
Could be an alternative to ignite, just for those who REALLY feel it's necessary to chase a low hp Singed, Shyvana, maybe for Quinn in Valor's form... Not convinced though.

Teleport
You can return and come back faster to your lane. Useful to assist battles at early-mid game, ganking, etc. If you take this, I recommend Enchantment: Homeguard for a speedlight chasing, and using Teleport from champion's altar.

Exhaust
Not bad for a 1 CC champ, but I still rather ignite, since Ryze can spam and run faster enough with the selected runes and masteries. Although would be useful if your team is behind you when chasing.

Clarity and heal
A waste for late game. What I'm trying to do, is to pick a summoner spell which I could find useful for the entire game. Leave it to the noob supports.

Clairvoyance
Leave it to the supports, place wards, just it.

Spells

Underestimated part of Ryze. ;)

Overload

Your main spamming spell, your farm, your great part of Ryze's in-built cooldown reduction.

It's every Ryze player's duty to maximize it first. (Maximized at lvl 9)

Rune Prison

The most mana-expensive spell of Ryze, but that guarantee's the killing ensurance when snaring. Does less damage than Overload but imprisons the target.

Combos

WARNING!: Smartcast is recommended for combo performance!

Against champions: counters and relative matches.

Fizz:

Before lvl 6: Easy
After lvl 6: Hard

Before lvl 6 it's easy, don't get too confident though. Unless he plays him carefully: if he uses or wastes his Playful / Trickster and Urchin Strike then he's vulnerable for at least 14 seconds. This is the moment where you can take advantage of his spells cd: go ahead and #Engage him ( ) and make him feel useless.

After lvl 6, he can either avoid you or hunt you (or even dominate a teamfight) with his ultimate Chum the Waters. Careful, he can use it to engage you with his jungler.

Item order suggestion:

Sidenote: fizz players get used to go to other lanes, so obviously call mia anytime possible or it get's complicated as most of enemy fizz games.

Best matching junglers for Ryze

They are the ones who does the great favor to you, either to save or to chase. These are the Top 5 champions. I recommend your duo partner (if you have one) to watch this, or either you tell him which to choose from this list.

Mao'Kai

No doubt the best match for Ryze. Mao's ganks starts with a Twisted Advance, then an arcane smash in which gives you enough advantage to do all your maximum damage combo, or at least to provoke your enemy waste Flash.

Nocturne

Once Nocturne touches the opponent with Unspeakable Horror you either go in, or the enemy gets forced easily to Flash, since he can't escape of his horror unless Nocturne get's CCed after Shroud of Darkness.

Sidenote: if Nocturne doesn't use his Shroud of Darkness before getting CCed, then just tell him to remember using it, otherwise the chances of killing reduces and the mid laner becomes more predictable.

Change Log

Incomplete phase changes

Date format: "Day, month, year".

30 / 06 / 2013 : 2 Spells, 1 new combo, 1 against champs, 2 matching junglers, added a Pros/Cons and a Summoners Spells section.

23 / 07 / 2013 : Added a joke in Pros/Cons section.

11 / 08 / 2013 : Since the update, Banshee's Veil doesn't have mana anymore, only Health Points. So from now, as anyone does, Rod of Ages becomes the first item to buy, and Iceborn Gauntlet is included to the build (gets more Armor and damage, instead of MR :( damn).
