Introduction
Hello there and welcome to my second guide. This time it's about Nocturne, who by now is one of my favorite Jungle champions and has an amazing legendary skin. Also my build is pretty viable for toplane, which I barely play, but I hope I have enough knowledge about it, because I watch Voyboys livestream a lot. This guide will be mostly focused about playing jungle, as I yet am a toplane nooby. // I should say that I'm from germany and my english isn't perfect yet. So if you find some mistakes, It'd be really nice, if you'd post a quick comment about it. Thanks in advance :) // SPECIAL THANKS: Credits to jhoijhoi for the template, which I again used to put this together :) here. |
Pros
+ Amazing Initiation with Q, Spellshield and atkspeed steriod with W + He can be really scary (hinthint: Unspeakable Horror) + GIANT Gapcloser with R + Can clear his jungle without help + Passive very nice useful when jungling His kit helps initiating and keeping the enemies in your reach a lot. His ultimate is an awesome gigantic gapcloser, which also helps getting to the enemie adc in teamfights. |
Cons
- If you use your ultimate, the enemies will most likely focus you - Useless, if you are behind - You can't waste much time sitting in brushes, waiting for the perfect moment to gank - No big poke Nocturne relies on getting enough farm. One jungle clear or first blood isn't enough. You always need to farm in between. |
Runes
For jungle I prefer going with attack speed reds, because the jungle creeps don't have a lot of armor, so atkspeed gives you more dps against them and you have your jungle cleared faster Greater Seal of Armor
Pretty standard for junglers, as the jungle creeps don't use any skills, only autoattacks, which deal physical damage. The early armor helps you surviving your jungle, in the first clear and ganking bot lane. Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
4 of those for the early mid lane (and maybe toplane) ganking. Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist
5 of those. They become more efficient than the not scaling ones at level 9. Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed
Junglers have to run a lot naturally. The increased movementspeed will help you clear your jungle faster and get from lane to lane faster. They also help getting in melee range.
Runes
Armor penetration is a huge stat on Nocturne, which makes him a good bruiser. Greater Seal of Armor
Helps against AD enemies like Renekton or Riven Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
Helps against AP enemies like Elise or Akali Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage
Helps with lasthitting and gives you great early AD for high sustain starting or simply early aggression.
Both of the builds have pretty similar masteries:
The focus is on the defensive tree, because we don't build any critstrike on Nocturne, which makes most of the offensive tree useless to us. For jungle we get Summoner's Resolve , which gives us bonus money, when using smite. The points that go into Relentless and Juggernaut are used for Tough Skin and Bladed Armor , when jungling.
I like getting Defender and Good Hands becauseI watched too much Voyboy livestream for the bonus armor and MR in teamfights and less deathtime could gives you some great bonus living time, if you die late game.
Jungle
Toplane
Explanation:
The simple standard 4-4-1 offensive tree for AD Junglers, which gives Nocturne two huge stats: Attack Speed and Armor Penetration. For toplane I suggest getting the Summoner's Wrath mastery, as we have Ignite instead of Smite.
I like getting Defender and Good Hands because
Alternatives
Teleport is very popular for solo laners. Brushward-teleport-ganks are never expected can if played well easily end in a double kill.
*points up to the jungler section*
The standard starting items for junglers. I wouldn't recommend changing them on Nocturne because usually needs 4 potions, 3 if he gets a really nice pull.
Item Sequence
Youmuu's Ghostblade
2700
Frozen Mallet
3100
Ravenous Hydra
3300
Last Whisper
1450
Mercury's Treads
You should in any case build Mercury's Treads because of the tenacity. Also otherwise the build kinda lacks Magic Resistance Youmuu's Ghostblade
This is an amazing item for Nocturne as it passively gives us ArmorPenetration. Use the active whenever starting to fight. The stats also lower our cooldowns by 10%. Frozen Mallet
A little AD and HP boost and an amazing on-hit slow. You'll never have problems chasing your enemie from now on! Ravenous Hydra
I really like this item on Nocturne because he lacks AoE spells. Both the passive and active give us very awesome AoE utility. The stats also grant us a huge AD and sustain boost, due to the increased hp regeneration and lifesteal. Bloodthirster
As an alternative for the Ravenous Hydra I suggest getting a Bloodthirster. It gives both more AD and Lifesteal, but doesn't have any ultility at all. Last Whisper
We didn't get any more Armorpenetration since Youmuu's Ghostblade. Now is the time to get more :)
The Last Item
By now, I have a pretty big list of items, which could help Nocturne. On another note, you don't need to build any of them last. A Hexdrinker in the laning phase against an AP champ can be very awesome.Shurelya's Battlesong
I learned to love this item in ARAM before Guardian's Horn got introduced. Usually supports build this item, but they also usually don't have that much money. The active of this items helps your team around you catching up with your high movement speed initiation or get away quicker, when the fight is going to be lost.
Mercurial Scimitar
If you like using Quicksilver Sash why not upgrade it to an Mercurial Scimitar which would make both a good aggressive, but also defensive last item choice. Also the active grants a movement speed bonus with the upgrade!
Guardian Angel
It's not unlikely that you are going to die. Guardian Angel can save your live, like Zhonya's Hourglass does for AP Carries. It also gives both Armor and Magic Resistance.
Randuin's Omen
This item is amazing against AD heavy teams. Also the active can slow your enemies.
Warmog's Armor
The legendary warmogs giving a huge sustain boost.
Thornmail
Awesome counter against strong AD autohitters like the enemy ADC or maybe Zed Jungle/Top/Mid or similar champs.
Maw of Malmortius
Awesome against AP heavy enemy teams. If you get under 30% hp, the passive of this item absorbs 400dmg. Also you get 1 bonus AD for every 2.5% hp you are missing.
Banshee's Veil
It's dangerous to bruise against poke comps. Take this!
Spirit Visage
I heard Galio talking about how he loved the increased draining passive of this item for his shield. As we have some lifesteal, this item might actually work very well against AP heavy teams.
Umbra Blades |
Duskbringer |
Shroud Of Darkness |
Unspeakable Horror |
Paranoia |
Explanations
Umbra Blades
Nocturne's amazing passive helps him clear the jungle and gives him a little more sustain.
Duskbringer
Not just a skillshot. Duskbringer is an amazing initiation tool, as Nocturne gains movementspeed, when walking on its trace. Also all enemies hit will start leaving behind the same trace for some seconds, which makes hunting them very easy.
Shroud of Darkness
It's just a spellshield, Y U NO MAX LAST? Well it also has a passive! An amazing Attack Speed steroid!
Unspeakable Horror
Deals consistent damage and fears the target if it stayed in reach long enough. They won't run, they'll just cry...and die.
Paranoia
"OMFG IT'S NOCTURNE!" is what I hear them screaming, when I use this amazing gap closer, flying to an enemy out of the dark. Probably the most devastating gap closer in League Of Legends.
Jungle
Toplane
I always max Q ( Duskbringer) and W ( Shroud of Darkness) first over E ( Unspeakable Horror) because I use E only to actually have the fear. Also Unspeakable Horror scales with AP, which we don't have with this build. Also I like getting a second point on W on level 4 for jungle Nocturne for faster jungle clearing. You can use the toplane skill sequence for jungle, if you prefer that one.
Overall Nocturne is a great jungle bruiser who doesn't have any problems with initiation...turrets maybe, in laning phase he can dominate over other champions easily.
He also is a very solid jungler and come on he looks so awesome!
I'd like to add a note for top laners: Please don't f***ing blame junglers for being behind or not ganking your lane. Maybe your lane doesn't even need a gank or the jungler looks on the minimap and always see's you pushing happily, while other lanes are under huge pressure. Also I HATE this chat message: "omfg bot stop feed". If botlane feeds, maybe they'd need a teleport gank? Huh?
