Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Hello guys, this is my first guide, so i tried my best. The lay-out may not be very flashy or organised, apologies for that im still learning how everything works :) I'm superjojo222, currently gold player on EUW. I am a seasoned warwick player, played him since season 2 (mandreds bloodrazor OP) and I've picked him up in solo queue in season 4 again. This time as a top laner tank who has enough burst to burn through any AD or AP carry in a matter of seconds.
If I get the chance to play top lane in solo Q, I wrecj my lane 90% of the time with warwick, only not being stronger than my lane opponent if i get babysit really hard. As soon as you get a few kills and your core build, carrying the game will be easy since you can force fights, focus the enemy carry and be a major threat for them.
My runes, masteries and build are not mainstream, and I've taken a lot of practice and tried out lots of things to come to this wonderful set-up which helped me climb a lot and giving me scores like 10-2 on most games. You may be sceptical, but once you get to know it, you'll never go back to the standard builds on warwick.
Enjoy the guide, I hope i can improve your gameplay with this great champion. I hope you can improve my writing skills as well, so any feedback will be most welcome.
Hey guys, in this section I will write how I play my warwick and why it's so strong. First of all, you go 21-9 masteries (more about that later) so you have a decent damage output and insane sustain. Pre-6, you just farm! This is key to dominate the early game. After lvl 6 you go ham, until that time just last hit and keep healthy, using your pots, passive, Q and Doran's Ring for sustain. Dont try and trade, unless they really overextend. Once you get lvl 6 (you dont need to go back to base if you play correctly) you just Q-R-ignite the enemy and they will be low enough for you to chase with the last Q. Always farm until your ulti comes up again and repeat. DONT go all-in without your ulti, unless you are REALLY SURE you will get the kill.
In mid to lategame you want to be jumping the enemy carry and probably won't have any trouble with it, since you will be tanky and you still have great sustain throughout the game.
The main focus of our damage is AP! The Q and R skills will deal magic damage. Sunfire Cape and Wit's End deal magic damage too. This is also the reason for the magic pen runes, since you will benefit you greatly in early and lategame.
With my masteries I go differently from what most warwick players do, which is 9-21-0 masteries. The offensive masteries help warwick out a great deal. In early lane you wont need much tankyness since you can beat anybody 1vs1 after lvl 6 with your insane dueling potential and heal plus the very strong ulti where you deal tons of damage and the enemy can only watch how their HP pool melts away. In the mid to endgame you will have enough tanky items to keep you safe and sound in the teamfights, while still being able to bring a lot of damage and being a threat the enemy can't ingore. Well then, some explanation to my choices.
Butcher is not picked up a lot, but on top lane warwick its great. Warwick has some issues last hitting and this will help you greatly.
Feast will be a buff for your already powerful systain in lane. The heal synergizes with your passive, and the mana is great too. Warwick is very mana dependent in early, but with Doran's Ring you get 5 mana back per creep kill. Pretty useful for keeping you spam Q to herras or stay alive and in lane
Martial gives more AD and easy lasthitting
Spell Weaving and Blade Weaving work well on warwick, since you can spam your abilities and its stacks with the ulti too
The rest is selfexplanatory. DO NOT take Warlord , since you wont build any AD so its useless.
Greater Mark of Attack Damage
Greater Seal of Armor
Greater Glyph of Magic Penetration
Greater Quintessence of Precision
Items vs AD top
This is your core. Always start with Doran's Ring and 2 health pots. Always. Doran's Shield does not work that well, since your should not be trading with your enemy anyways. Doran's Ring gives you HP as well, lots of mana regen and 15 AP, which means you deal 15 more damage with your Q and will be healing as much. This should be enough to keep you in lane as long as it is needed. What you buy on the first back is up to you, but I would suggest rushing Sunfire Cape. This will make you unkillable by virtually any champ. You don't need the boots that much, since your E will be enough to chase the enemy after a Q-R-ignite combo. If you get ganked often it's maybe worth picking up boots earlier.
Pick your boots according to the enemy comp (do they have strong cc or autoattackers?) and then build towards Wit's End. This gives you extra damage (it will proc 5 times on your ulti giving a whopping extra 200 magic damage!!) and stacks you some magic resist as well. For the low cost, I can't think of a better item for lanewick.
After you completed the core items, you chose your next items based of the enemy's comp and who is fed. Since you will be jumping in the middle of the enemy, Frozen Heart can be devastating for the enemy DPS's. Note that this is not only good vs AD carry, but also vs champs like tryndamere, jax etc. For magic resist item Spirit Visage is the best option in my opinion. Gives CD reduction, MR, a big chunk of health and it increases all of your healing abilities, warwick has lots of that.
Items vs AP top
For laning against an AP top you will be having some more trouble, since they usually out-range you (kayle, teemo, etc.) Best thing to do is stay back, farm when you can and let them push you up to your tower. Taking an early Spectre's Cowl will help you survive damage and the passive helps you heal up after they land a basic attack or spell on you.
After you hit lvl 6 it's basically the same as with any AD champ. Use your Q first, follow up with your ulti and ignite them instantly. They will be low, proccing your E for the easy clean up.
If you get bulliedreally hard you could buy a second Doran's Ring for spamming your Q and keeping you alive to farm. Your further build will consist of the Sunfire Cape since its an awesome item for warwick. For your last items, see the tips on the section above :)
This is pretty straight forward. Maxing your Q is the only option here. It deals massive damage and heals you for almost that damage as well. This is the main reason dueling vs warwick is nearly impossible.Use it before you ulti! Don't go out of your way go land a Q first, but nearly always you can get in range for Q. If they keep running away, just laugh at them and the fact they cannot take creeps. After you get 1 or 2 kills, they will be so afraid of your ulti they won't even come near you.
Take an early point in your E, just in case they are too stupid to overextend and get below 50%. It's good for the movement speed, but it also makes a sound that (even when it is not doing anything) terrifies most enemies making them run from you, giving you either free farm or easy kills.
Max your W after Q, because of the epic steroïd it gives FOR YOUR WHOLE TEAM. This can be up to 40% attack speed for every single friendly teammember. Wow. Such speed. Much OP. Very spam. Always make sure you press the W button at the start of any teamfight, before you use your ulti. Once you are channeled, you can't press W.
Not too hard on this, because Flash and Ignite are pretty much your best options. As stated before, using your Q-R-ignite combo drops people extremely low. Use it early so you can use your passive E for movement speed and clean up.
In lategame, your ignite will deal lots of true damage, so when combined with an ulti which does good damage and 5 procs of your Wit's End, you should have killed your enemy with the ulti-ignite combo alone, giving your team an easy clean up. If the carry survives, you can easily follow up with the Q. Running from warwick is useless. ITS ONLY FUN, IF THE RUN, my grandmother always used to say ;)
Other viable options are Teleport or Exhaust, although i would not recommend it.
