Introduction: Who am I?



Hi everybody and welcome to my first guide ever! First of all, I am BullRed07 a Gold noobie that plays in EUW. Well, you can think "Why do I have to trust that Gold guy"... Well, I main Shaco and I really love that champ, but not only that, I also have really nice results with him.
I have a lot of experience playing Shaco and I think that this guide will help some low elo players that want to start playing him at the twisted treeline.

Why pick Shaco in TT?



First of all, Shaco has never been that "cool champ" that everybody plays cause he is "Op rito psl nurf". That's because this champion is really really hard to play and of course, to master. Shaco is an squishy autoattack-based assassin (if played AD) or either a huge burst mage (if played AP). The reason he suffers in Summoner's Rift is because he has to use his Deceive to get close to the enemies and, while Deceive is on cooldown you just have your Hallucinate to dodge abilites. Once your invisibility goes off the whole enemy team starts focusing you and you're dead. (of course, a good shaco will analyse the situation to know when it is good to go in).

But all this doesn't happen in Twisted Treeline because you have just 3 enemies that can focus you at time.

Another reason is that your Jack In The Box provide huge map control because the map is really small, so you can ambush / control altars / protect Vilemaw, etc. easier.

Do not forget his ganks. A good gank will make your enemies burn flash, and a second means a kill.

But let's start step by step and now we see all of this in the Pros/Cons section.

That's what I recommend you to get. I take scaling MR because you don't need that much mr early on so you can benefit more.
Personally i don't like Lifesteal Quints since you'll get Vampiric Scepter pretty fast and you can recall whenever you need to because it won't make you lose much time thanks to the map size.
The armor is to take reduced damage from monsters early on and from autoattacks. Remember that autoattacks early game hurt, even if the enemy is AP.

Pretty self explanatory. Your basic combo ( Deathfire Grasp + Two-Shiv Poison) requires MPen to deal tons of damage. With those runes you'll be dealing almost true damage the whole game and synergizes well with Liandry's Torment, Void Staff, Abyssal Mask and Sorcerer's Shoes.

Jack In The Box first, no exceptions. This means an instant win if you fight a lvl 1 "teamfight".
I usually get Two-Shiv Poison at lvl 2 because of the "blind" on minions and just because there's no reason to lvl up Deceive. You can't gank lvl 2 without the slow.

I max Two-Shiv Poison first for the blind, the passive slow and the huge burst it provides early game.
Then max Jack In The Box second because the Fear scales with the ability lvl so MOAR CC.

In my opinion Deceive is a "one-point matter" ability. Since the cooldown is not reduced and neither is the stealth duration.

Ability Explanation







Backstab: This is Shaco's passive ability. This might seem a bad passive since you have to get behind your enemy to apply it, but this is not 100% sure. You'll be applying your Deceive critical strike from behind so you have a 20% boost there, and of course you'll be landing your Two-Shiv Poison from behind when your enemies are trying to run away. They'll think twice if its good to run away or fight you (which won't be the best decision hu3hu3hu3)



Deceive: This is Shaco's Q. Is one of the 8 active stealths in game and it isn't only a stealth, it is a blink too! This ability is a huge utility spell that makes your ganks really deadly and easy to execute. On top of that, it ensures your next basic attack to crit for a % amount of your attack damage (scales with the ability).

Tips and Tricks
  • Use your Deceive to gank from a bush, so it is impossible for your enemy to figure out that you're ganking.
  • When running while stealthed, try to travel the most distance possible to control his scape route.
  • While scaping, use your Deceive in the opposite direction that you're running to juke the enemies.



Jack in the Box: I really felt in love with that skill. It is one of the two unique stealth units in the League (The other is Teemo's Noxious Trap) and it has a fear included. It is a little box that turns in stealth mode after 2 seconds and lasts a whole minute! Fears for a nice amount of time (scaling with the ability) and deals a nice amount of magic damage early on. And, of course if you run the AP build you can camp a bush with 3 Jack In The Box and you'll instantly kill ANY enemy that steps in it.

Tips and Tricks
  • When jungling lvl 1-7 make sure you put a Jack In The Box and also ensure that the neutral monsters are attacking the box and not you.
  • When ganking, use Deceive, walk behind him and put a Jack In The Box. Don't put it just behind your enemy, keep some distance. It migh take some practice.
  • You can use Jack In The Box to zone, protect altars, protect yourself when capturing an altar, ward vilemaw, protect vilemaw, etc. It has a ~16 second CD, use it properly.



Two Shiv Poison: Here's your reliant low CC. You're one of the 4 champs in the League that has a slow in your autoattacks ( Gangplank, Ashe and Urgot). It has a nice active which has an 1,0 ratio AD and another 1.0 ratio AP (if you build AP-> Blackfire Torch + Two-Shiv Poison TONZ OF DUMUCHS)

Tips and Tricks
  • When ganking, don't use it inmediatly after you proc your Deceive crit. You want to keep aplying your passive slow since when you have your Two-Shiv Poison on cooldown you lose the slow passive. Use it if the enemy flashes or gets away or if you can kill your enemy with it.
  • Remember that you can passively blind monsters with it so you won't lose too much hp jungling.
  • Always try to land it from behind so you apply your Backstab



Hallucinate: Best ultimate in the whole game. This is what makes or breaks you as a Shaco player. You create a clone that recieves 50% more damage and deals 75% of your damage, also apllies On-hit Effects ( Ravenous Hydra, Statikk Shiv, Blade of the Ruined King...). Your clone scales with your items, so if you're ahead the distance between you and your enemies is HUGE!


Tips and Tricks
  • Remember that you can use it to juke spells since you're untargetable for 0,5 seconds.
  • Use this as a false focus on teamfights. You send the clone to fight and you wait in a bush or something, when your clone dies, you go in with Deceive.
  • Remember that clone's autoattacks hurt but also that it has 600 base damage. It will hurt even if you're AD.
  • Use your clone to solo Vilemaw at lvl ~13-16.

Items






Best start right now in the Twisted Treeline. You won't lose any hp at all so there's no need to take Hunter's Machete first. There's also no need to take both jungle items because with just one you'll reach lvl 3 killing the 3 camps. Long Sword for early damage. This will work either if you rush Ravenous Hydra or Enchantment: Warrior. If you go Enchantment: Bloodrazor take both jungle items.



This is item is just awesome on Shaco. Basically it makes your autoattacks hit AoE (Area of Effect) so now you can hit multiple opponents! So you can heal more! So you can get more kills! Now, seriously, this item provides a huge speed boost in your waveclear and an active that brings some burst so it fits well into your assassin role.



The Statikk is amazing on Shaco. It adds more AoE damage (so it synergizes well with your Ravenous Hydra), and give nice stats. The animation is also good so it will make your ganks a huge piece of art.



Nice stats for the price. Has a passive that allows you to melt tanky champs like Dr. Mundo or simply the Vilemaw . The active is wonderful and allows you to make a movement speed difference between you and your enemy. CHASE, KILL, HEAL... GG



This item has always been one of the best survivability items in the game. Now you're in the transition between an squishy assassin or a dps bruiser. Really nice stats, active and passive. Build this if you feel like you're carrying and you need to survive a fed Yasuo or simply an ADC like Caitlyn. It also works with champions that are reliant in attack speed but are not fully AD like Poppy, Jax or Kayle.



With this item you have a little bit of AP so more damage with all your abilities (of course you don't build it because of the AP lol), it gives you more mana so you don't have to worry about going oom pretty fast and it gives you 70 Armor! Then, we have the unique passive the spellblade ( Lich Bane, Sheen, Trinity Force, Iceborn Gauntlet) which is going to add more burst damage to our Deceive and a nice slow, that will stack with our Two-Shiv Poison slow.



Do you have a fed Ryze in the enemy team? Or an annoying Fizz that keeps one-shoting you? Well that item is for you. Nice amount of Magic Resist, some CDR, good amount of hp and nice passives. The passive is just awesome for you since you're building two lifesteal items as core (well, Blade of the Ruined King is semi-optional)



Playing Shaco is funny except when they try to burst you down in 0,1 seconds. Also, ganking LeBlanc is not that easy. You got it, right? This item is the C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER! (Dem punz) and helps protecting from champs like Gragas, LeBlanc or Fizz that either rely on combos or they have a huge burst ability ( Explosive Cask, Chum the Waters). Also, if you have a Karthus in the enemy team and you're not skilled enough to juke his Requiem with Hallucinate, or it is on cooldown, don't worry, buy this.



There's no need to comment that. Take this if the enemy Malzahar is a problem, if Warwick wants to focus you or someone had the idea to pick Nautilus and f**k your game. Is a clenease with some MR and AD. Nice item.



Amazing item on Shaco. CDR, ArPen, a **** ton of AD, the active synergizes well with the assassin build. Rush this with any build (except the AP one) if the enemy team is full squishy. The flat ArPen will help demolishing them.



This item was removed from my list of viable items but I've been trying it for a while and it seems pretty solid on Shaco. This is an offensive and defensive item, gives HP, Armor and MOAR magic damage that will make you almost an Hybrid champion. Keep in mind that your clone has the burning passive too!



At first I didn't like this item because of the Hybrid damage shaco offers. He does almost half magic damage and half physical damage but, Black Cleaver has turned to be an amazing item. 20% cdr, nice damage and hp and a passive that helps shred tanks. Take it in the bruiser build.

Conclusions



Ok, you just read all the guide... Sorry... Maybe it is not the most well-written guide, and maybe I don't have the best Englando in the world but I hope you guys have understood my ideas and my reasons to play Shaco in the jungle.

As you've seen Shaco is not a bad champion in the Twisted Treeline, and you have some tips and remember that I'll be adding some chapters about the map itself and how Shaco can use the map to win.
