I am Nightdreams, Currently ranked Diamond 3 on Euw server, hoping to one day reach Master Tier.
This is my first guide, and I chose my Main Shen.
Unlike most players I do not regret the Old Shen, and find the new one much more interesting to play.
In this guide I will try to show you how I play him.
Of course I still have so much to learn and will probably update this guide often.

While the item section is quite detailed here are some general guidance on how to build Shen.
Shen is a toplaner that will split push most of the time, thanks to his incredibly powerful ultimate allowing him to join the teamfights or early game skirmishes. His kit is lacking waveclear though, and that is why you want to rush sunfire as quickly as possible.
Remember, you are a tank not a bruiser. Your Q is enough damage already taht is why i do not recommend to build titanic hydra.
You are also building your first item to hold your match-up, then you build in the most effective way against the enemy team.

Teleport is a must have for shen. EVEN if he has his ultimate, you need to hold your lane, and cannot ult to your lane.
Flash is of course a must have on must champion, + you can do some sweet Taunt Flash to surprise the enemy team.

Pros :
- Great utility
- Insane tanking
- Split-push power
- Relatively safe laning phase.

Cons :
- Impossible to solo carry
- Slow waveclear
- " Only " One hard CC

In laning phase do not be afraid to use your Q often, it is relatively easy to farm with it, as it deals bonus damage on minions.

You need to hold your toplane, but frequently watch your mini-map. When you see a gank/counter gank be ready to ult by watching directly the action. your own judgement is key to avoid those " why did you ult ? " reactions. Loosing your first turret so your adc/midlaner snowballs is worth it.
You are not playing to win your lane, but to make other lanes win. you provide the tankiness and your team provides the damage. Sacrifice your farm/turret anytime if you know you can give an advantage to your carries. HOWEVER this is not an excuse to loose your lane, you also need to be able to hold an enemy split-pusher. That is why dying 1vs1 is forbidden. It can happen, but do not get snowballed.

If found Shen's W highly underrated, not only it can block auto-attacks but also boosted ones.
Spells like Tf gold card or Renekton's W for example can be blocked, you will therefore not be stunned, or your adc won't be !
Also you have to remember that if your Q goes through an enemy champion it will not only boost your next 3 autos, but also slow the enemy a bit, it can save your life sometimes.
Now your passive, a huge bait/tanking ability. The base Cd is quite long, but is reduced for each ability you cast succesfully on an enemy or ally champion. This means that in long fights you can procs your shield multiple times ! This is part of why Shen is to tanky.
