Shen Basics
Shen's primary role is a tank in the top lane, he is centered around helping his teammates with his ultimate, it is not uncommon to lose lane as shen, so don't be too bummed out if you lose it, your main role is to help your team with your ultimate.
Shen has a fairly simple kit, with an added extra bit of complexity to spice it up and make mastering shen slightliy more difficult.
The Abilities
Shen's passive is Ki Barrier, Shen gains a shield scaling with his level x 3, and his max health, the shield's cooldown is reduced each time an ability affects an enemy champion. (base cooldown 10 seconds)
Shen's Q is Twilight Assault, Shen's spirit blade travels along a visible line towards shen, after that he gets 3 empowered auto attacks, also if the sword clips through an enemy champion on its way towards shen, shen also gets additional attack speed, and a small amount of max health damage.
Shen's W is Spirit's Refuge, Shen creates a circle for 1.75 seconds, you and any allies (not minions) within that circle will not get damaged by auto attacks, the circle is always located at the location of shen's spirit blade so use your q to position it right, also if no ally is standing in the zone until 2 seconds, after which it activates automatically.
Shen's E is Shadow Dash, Shen dashes in a direction, taunting anyone he touches on the way, this ability helps shen set up many kills, helps him if he gets dove under tower, and allows him to escape since it can go through walls, the ability can also be comboed with a flash to extend its range.
Shen's R is Stand United A global ultimate that allows shen to teleport to the location of any ally he wants, and give them a shield while he casts the ability, upon teleportation shen gets his spirit blade with him. at max rank the shield has 850hp + 160% AP.
Ferocity Tree
Depending on your opponent you want to take different masteries, however they should always be 12/0/18.
In the first tier of ferocity you always want to take Fury because Shen's damage comes from his autos.
In the second tier either Feast or Fresh Blood are good choices. Feast is the preferable choice if against people who bully you out of lane (example Jayce), so the extra sustain is always nice. Fresh Blood is much better against people who you can snowball off of (example Nasus) because the extra damage is always nice to have.
In the third tier, if against an opponent who out trades you, Vampirism may be good to heal back after a trade, however if against someone who you are able to out trade then Natural Talent is probably better to deal more damage to the enemy, and possibly getting an early kill.
In the fourth tier, Double Edged Sword is good against people who are weak early like Nasus because it allows you to deal more damage, and even though you will take more, since it is percentage based, the lower their damage the lower the increase in damage is. Not only that, it also counteracts the nerf Shen received in season 6 which gave him a 1% damage decrease on his auto attacks that were empowered by his Q Twilight Assault.
The second option is Battle Trance , this is good against champions who excel at short trades, because their abilities have long cooldowns. However against champions who excel at long trades (example Darius) you will be much better off with Double Edged Sword .
Resolve Tree
In the first tier of the resolve tree you can go for either Recovery or Unyielding
