Introduction

Hey everybody and welcome to my Shen guide. By the way, this is my very first build on MobaFire. I know, there will be some errors with this build, or that this build isn't as creative or as beautiful as another guide, but please, bear with me, I am new at doing this. I am a very flexible person, and I am open to all kinds of comments and criticism, (preferably constructive criticism).

Anyway, Shen is a great champion that I play a lot, and I decided to theory build, where I AP nuked him, and turns out, he is a great champion to nuke. This guide is mainly to teach all of you how to be super tanky and give tons of shield to your teammates during team fights.

Finally, please read the entire guide, even though you are an expert Shen player, there might be something that you could have missed and that you could have learned in this guide.

Note about the guide: I will be adding the items chapter later on. I have recently become very busy and I cannot work on the guide right now.

NOTE: For all of you people that never want to read the entire guide, I have provided you all with a shorter version of the reasons. Simply put your mouse over the +Notes over the builds, items, etc.

Anyways, enjoy!

The magic pen marks are great for Shen's Q to do more damage. Armor seals and magic resist. glyphs are for the extra sustain early game. Movement speed quintessences are needed because boots are purchased mid game.

Spells

Recommended

This spell is used for so many situations. Although it does have a long cooldown, it can be used to juke people, move that extra distance so you can survive a gank, grab a kill that would otherwise be hard to get, and many more. These are just the few examples of what you can do with flash.

This spell is great, because not only does it make a 1v1 so much easier, but at the same time, you can use it to finish off an enemy that otherwise would have escaped with barely any health. It's also a great counter to those annoying champions that keep healing over and over again.

This spell goes great with Shen's ult. Not only can you use this to get back to lane after ulting, but you can go and save your lane when you had to go back, or you can also gank an enemy unexpectedly by teleporting to a ward.

Other choices that could work

Ghost is also a great spell to use. Similar to flash, it could be used as a chasing ability, an escaping ability, or a way to get back to lane faster.

Exhaust is another good choice. It makes a solo lane against a Shen really hard to do. One thing you can do is when you taunt them at your turret, you can exhaust them right after, making them unable to escape and take a bunch of turret damage.

How to use his abilities:
Before I start: Yes, I know, you all know how to use his abilities, but there might be a small detail or so that you can miss from using his abilities. The thing is, if you know how to play Shen like an expert, feel free to skip this section.

This is Shen's passive. Basically, after a few seconds, Shen's next basic attack will do extra magic damage. The cooldown of this passive goes down by 1 second after auto attacking an enemy. This passive is great for extra harass, last hitting minions easier, or go gain some of that lost energy. The other thing is that the extra magic damage scales off of Shen's maximum health, so building him tanky will also make his passive do more damage.

This is Shen's Q ability. Basically, when Shen uses this ability, he throws his sword at a target, marking them. If Shen or any of his teammates attacks the enemy that is marked, they will get some extra health regeneration. This also heals Shen for a little bit if he kills the unit with the ability. This ability is great for farming, leashing for the jungler so they will regenerate some health, healing himself and his teammates, and when combined with Ki Strike, can be used to deal a ton of harass.

This is Shen's W ability. This ability is simple. You press it, and Shen gets a shield. The thing is, if the shield lasts it's certain amount of time without getting destroyed, it also decreases the cooldown of your Ki Strike by a few seconds. This ability goes extremely well, not only when you use your Shadow Dash to take reduced damage, but at the same time, when you are AP nuking, it will absorb a bunch of damage.

This is Shen's E ability. This ability is an extremely useful one. Shen dashes in a line, and all enemies that Shen touches will be taunted, forcing them to attack Shen. Additionally, Shen gets some energy back depending on the amount of enemies that are hit with this ability (yes, including the dead bodies of enemy champions). When you use your Feint at the same time, you will absorb some damage, making you able to tank more damage. Since this ability can go over some walls, usually the small and low ones, this can also be used as an escape and chase. This is another reason why Shen is such a great champion.

This is Shen's R ability. This is the ability that makes Shen such an overpowered champion, the reason why I have made this build, and the reason why Shen's teammates almost never die. Basically, Shen channels for a few seconds, giving whoever he is teleporting to a large amount of shield, and teleporting to the person after he finishes channeling. After getting this ability to level 3 and getting your core items, this ability should be able to absorb about 1.2k damage. Read the gameplay section to learn the different ways of using this ability with this build.

So basically, if you need an order of what you should use when fighting enemies, it's simply:
Stand United, then Shadow Dash, then Vorpal Blade, then Feint. By the way, it doesn't matter which order you use Vorpal Blade and Feint in.

Gameplay

Early Game
Since this build is so pricey, the thing that you need to do most is farm. If your enemy is a hard lane pusher, you might want to stay back a bit and ask your jungler for a few ganks. Since your passive Ki Strike and Vorpal Blade have low cooldowns, try to last hit using them. Your passive gives you extra damage with auto attacks and your Vorpal blade has a low cooldown. The cool part about Vorpal Blade is that if the enemy unit is killed, you instantly gain some health, making you have high sustain in lane.

Mid Game
By now, you should have your core items and Stand United. If you are losing top lane, you might have to stay at top lane, for taking the tower is very important. When you get your ult, tell all of your teammates that you have it, and maybe to ping a whole bunch when they need it.
If you have been winning your lane, try to get the enemy turret, so you could possibly roam and gank.

Late Game
By now, you should have about half of your build done. This is the time where Shen is able to be his brightest. After having about half of your build done, you should be very tanky, and when your ult is level 3, and you have your core items, it should soak up about 1.2k damage. You can do two of the following:

Strategy #1:
This strategy will only work if you have another tank on your team that can engage and stay in the fight such as Jarvan IV. All you have to do is stay at top lane and keep pushing it. When your other tank engages, right when they are about to die, you can ult them, and let them escape without dying. When you look at this in another perspective, it's like they have to kill a tank twice before he finally dies, but before the tank dies, another tank comes in and saves him.

Strategy #2:
This strategy should only be used if strategy #1 doesn't work. Basically, you are playing the role of a tank correctly. All you really need to do is stay with your team, and engage when that one person is alone from the group. As you taunt in, your team will focus whoever you taunt. Depending on how smart the enemy team is, one of the following will happen:

1. You will be focused. If you are, simply tank everything, and let your team do all of the killing. Those who focus the tank are usually those that will die after the fight.

2. A teammate of yours will be focused (usually; either the AD carry or whoever is extremely fed). If this happens, this is where you will need to be quick. After one of your teammates is targeted, you will need to ult them. After ulting, you will need to use your taunt, allowing your teammate to live and letting your team get the kills.
