Introduction
Hi guys my name is CreskiKiller and I am playing on EUNE server for a year or so and this is my first real guide I have ever made for League of Legends. League is my favorite game and I wanted to share my knowledge about Sion with you guys since he is really strong late game, he can be as strong as Nasus but I don't know why almost none of the players play him. The first champion that I played with was Garen and he was my favorite champion until I bought Riven . But when I heard that they will nerf (decrease her damage and/or tankiness) Riven I changed my Solo Top champion to Sion when I saw that he is a really strong solo topper. Its really weird that really no players play with Sion cause he is so strong on top lane. I think that Attack Damage Sion is better then Ability Power because it is a lot easier to farm with Attack Damage Sion and it deals constant damage unlike AP Sion which ONLY deals burst damage, aka a high amount of damage in a small amount of time. Attack Damage Sion is based on getting tanky by farming a lot of minions and killing whole teams while healing your team with your Cannibalism.

Sion is a champion with which you need to have a high amount of practice before you will be able to make a good use of his insane damage. He can scale indefinietly with his HP (he can have an unlimited amount of HP). I will say to you some tactics that you can use in your next game with Sion.
Good Things About Sion
PROS:
|
Bad Things About Sion
CONS: |
HH HH HH HH
Runes
I like these marks since they give me a lot of Attack Damage on level 1, actually with your Enrage that is activated you will have 114 Attack Damage on first level witch is absolutely insane. It will make you a better farmer and you will be able to get on top of early game trades with enemy champions. |
Same as the Marks, they will give us a high amount of Attack Damage and will make you a better farmer. 6 Attack Damage extra at level 1 is a really big deal at farming and trading. |
Other Options
Runes
You can take these to have somewhat better late game with some more Critical chance but I am not a gambler so I would rarely take these, but if you think you will be able to use them, go on. Other Mark option would be Greater Mark of Critical Damage. |
YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO TAKE THOSE. They are absolutely needed, they reduce most of damage you take from your enviroment by about 10% earlier in the game and even in late game. |
Similar as Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist but those will give you some early game tankiness against Magic damage, you can take these if you know that you are versus a strong Magic damage dealing Top laner like Teemo, Kennen, Vladimir, Mordekaiser and others. |
These are some great Quints, I am not really 100% sure if the Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage are better then ones for Life Steal. These will give you an amount of sustain that you will actually be able to see. It will make it easier to recover from tradings but will reduce your trading ability. |
Offense
Double-Edged Sword
, its always nice to have some extra damage (2%) up for your 1% lose in your defences. Its a good trade-off.
Fury
(4 points) , since Sion is a champion that needs to auto attack to make ANY damage at all, it's needed to put points in the
Fury
mastery.
Brute Force
(3 points) , well, you need Attack Damage to heal with your Life Steal and to deal some more Damage.
Martial Mastery
, this is one of the best Attack Damage in the Offense Tree. 3 Attack Damage more at level 1 is a really big deal.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLO
Executioner
(3 points) , this mastery will give you more damage to targets that have less then 50% of their Health. It will make the Damage you are dealing to targets below that point deal 5% more damage.
Warlord
(3 points) , 5% more Attack Damage is a good thing to have on Sion. Like if you would have 300 Attack Damage, this mastery would increase that amount to 315 which is really nice :D.
Dangerous Game
, since Sion kills enemy champions so easy, this mastery will ensure you that you will recover from that fight easier since it gives you 5% of your Mana and Health lost back to you.
Frenzy
, WOW, you will actually be able to see the difference in your Attack Speed after you Critical Strike and since I am building some Critical's on Sion in this build, they are needed.
Devastating Strikes
, since I am not building any Penetrations in this guide, I am using this mastery to destroy that pesky armor that enemies take when they see a Sion that is farmed up and fed.
Havoc
, this is the best mastery that you can use on Sion. It just gives you a ton more damage (3%) which is absolutely insane.
Fury (4 points) , since Sion is a champion that needs to auto attack to make ANY damage at all, it's needed to put points in the Fury mastery.

Defense
Block (2 points), it will decrease the amount of damage that you will be taking when trading with enemy champions and will make you somewhat more tanky.
Enchanted Armor (2 points), this mastery will give you 5% more Armor and Magic Resist, and since I am taking Randuin's Omen and Spirit Visage with me (I am playing offtank) it will give you more tankiness.
Unyielding , this will reduce ALL damage that you would be taking from enemy champions by 2. I am always taking these.
Veteran Scars (3 points) , these masteries will make you more tanky at early game and will make it harder to kill you.
Juggernaut , this mastery will give you 1 extra HP for every 33 Health that you have. Its a really good mastery.

1. - R |
First of all you should max your ulti every time you will be able to level it up. It's similar to every other champion as everyone maxes his ultimate ability first. |
2. - E |
The second ability that I max on Sion is Enrage since I am playing Attack Damage Sion and I need the extra damage and to give me more Health per minion kill. |
3. - Q |
The second ability I am maxing on Sion is Cryptic Gaze because I am using it aggresively and I want to deal some more Magic Damage in my trades and teamfights. |
4. - W |
And last we have here is Death's Caress. I am maxing this ability last since I dont need it that much and the shield is not really strong. |
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLO
Sion is a champion that can make a good use of a lot of Summoner Spells. He can use Ghost, Teleport, Ignite, Cleanse, Flash and so on. I will try to give you the most optimal Spells that you can use on Sion.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLO
Best Spells
Since Sion has a really small amount of mobility in his kit (to be honest) he need's a really good mobility steroid that lasts for a high amount of time. I absolutely always take Ghost since most of smart enemies will run from you when you activate your Cannibalism, you will be able to stick with them more easily because you can't just rely on your Cryptic Gaze. |
Since we will want to farm a lot while playing with Sion you should take Teleport to get back to your line a lot faster or to save towers or even to teleport to some other lines to help them and make some kills. |
Optional Spells
Ignite is a Spell that only increases your killing potential in line. It deals True Damage so it totaly penetrates enemy champion's Armor. But I believe that Sion is already a very strong champion and that he only needs some more stickness and farms. |
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLO
Cleanse is a GREAT Spell for Sion. Everyone hates a Sion in a teamfight, so to reduce his Life Steal and Damage by 50% they will Ignite and/or Exhaust you. Cleanse removes all of those debuffs and reduces incoming debuffs too. But this Spell is good only in some occasions so I don't take it. |
Flash is not a really bad Spell on Sion. Its pretty similar as Ghost, but Flash will give you a larger amount of surprise then Ghost. But Sion is a champion that needs a lot of stickness, so Ghost is a generally better option |

In this section, I am gonna tell you the way you should build Sion to use his full potential. Its always important to make a good build, you can be fed as **** but if your build is bad, you will still fail. This is the way I am building Sion.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLO
Starting Items
Item Sequence
Health Potion
50
This is the way I start to build Sion. It heals me for the damage that I take from Enrage and gives me some more tankiness and sustain. Health Potion will give you a nice amount of Health when used and you will be able to stay in line longer. The other alternative start would be with Doran's Shield. You can take Doran's Shield when againtst an Auto Attack champion like Master Yi, Teemo, Yasuo and so on.
Item Sequence
Health Potion

First Back
Item Sequence
Health Potion

Stealth Ward
0
Since I don't have any non Cannibalism sustain in my kit, I have to take some Life Steal with me. I am building Vampiric Scepter into an early Ravenous Hydra to farm more easily and for sustain. I am taking Stealth Ward and potions with me to stay in line longer and to be safe from ganks. If you make an early kill or farm long enough you can take a different first back items.
Item Sequence

Item Sequence
Zeal

Boots
300
This way Sion will have a lot of Movement Speed to stick with enemy chmapions and will be better at farming. After this point you should upgrade your Tiamat to Ravenous Hydra and buy Phantom Dancer. After that you should build your Spirit Visage and Randuin's Omen and as the last item, buy Infinity Edge.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLO
In this Chapter, I am gonna tell you about some Champion Machups (I will update it often), and I will tell you how to beat your enemy in line. Sion is countered by most of strong early game champions and I am gonna explain it now.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLO
Garen
Garen is a strong early game champion and its hard as Sion to beat him, atleast till late game. Garen has a silence to prevent your Cannibalism and Cryptic Gaze from activating. Since Garen is a tank, you should start building towards some Armor Penetration items like Last Whisper and/or Black Cleaver. All that you should focus on in this Machup is to farm under turret and buy some sustain to never be at low Health because of his ulti Demacian Justice. |
Renekton
Renekton may be a scary aligator from outside but he is actually not that hard for Sion to beat. You should wait him to use his Cull the Meek and then strike him because he wont be doing a lot of damage when his abilities are on Cooldown. You can build Renekton in 2 ways (tanky and full AD) but mostly the opponent is gonna play tanky and buy Sunfire Aegis. So in that case you should buy some Armor Penetration to go through that armor like Last Whisper. Sion has a better ulti Cannibalism then Renekton's Dominus. |
Teemo
Teemo is a ranged Champion that focuses on building Ability Power and Attack Speed (mostly). Your life would become so much easier in this line if you would buy Doran's Shield because Teemo will harras you all day long. You should use bushes in this Machup and then Cryptic Gaze him. If he blinds you with Blinding Dart you should wait for the blind to end and then you can kill him. Teemo is a really squishy champion and he has no sustain in line so if you Cannibalism when he is close to you, you can kill him. |
Aatrox
There is just one problem that I never understood with Aatrox, why does he have so much sustain. This is kind of a hard line in witch you should buy Doran's Shield too because Aatrox solely relies on Basic Attacks to deal damage. He has some long range harras with his Blades of Torment and if he comes to you with his Dark Flight you just Cryptic Gaze him and attack him a few times and then back off. There is just one more thing, Always ALWAYS activate your Cannibalism when he activates his Massacre because you have a really similar ulti as him. |
Jax
There are a lot of types of Jaxes, but there is just one thing in common about them. Never attack him when he has his Counter Strike on (you have to Cryptic Gaze him while he has his Counter Strike on) and you must not keep on attacking him for more then 4 seconds because of his passive Relentless Assault and ulti Master-At-Arms. You can kill him 1v1 without his Counter Strike because you have a lot of Life Steal and damage from your Cannibalism. It is advised to start with Doran's Shield in this Machup because Jax deals Auto Attack damage. |
Irelia
Irelia is another annoying Offtank that can deal a lot of damage and still be tanky. Irelia can come to you fast with her Bladesurge and stun you, but you should use your Cryptic Gaze smart in that case. When she comes to kill you with her Hiten Style you should use your Cannibalism to deal a lot of damage to her. Her Transcendent Blades also gives her a lot of sustain especially when near minions, so I don't recommend you to fight near minions or monsters except if you are sure that you can kill her. You can start with your Doran's Blade this round to kind of match her sustain. |
Shyvana
Shyvana is yet another tank at Top lane that can deal tons of damage. Since Shyvana will buy a lot of tank items like Sunfire Aegis and Randuin's Omen so I recommend building Black Cleaver and/or Last Whisper because it is hard to deal any damage through that armor. This is not that of a hard line if you know when to Cryptic Gaze her and you should do that just as about she wants to use her Twin Bite because most of her damage comes from it. She has absolutely no sustain so you can use your Cannibalism just to sustain yourself in line. |
Dr. Mundo
Dr. Mundo is a champion that mostly builds ONLY tanky items without any damage. The reason for that is that he has a high amount of damage from his Infected Bonesaw and Blunt Force Trauma. He can just pop his Maximum Dosage to regain his Health to full, just like you. You won't have a high kill potential in this line so just build your Last Whisper to trade when he trades with you and just farm, littelary don't do anything just dont push and farm all day. |
Jayce
I didn't see a lot of Jayce's on Solo Top, but the thing about this line is that you have to use your Cryptic Gaze while in the bushes to come fast to him and try to kill him. Its recommended to start with Doran's Shield this round because he is kind of like the Attack Damage part of Teemo and he will harass you all day. You should buy some tanky items this round to survive his damage ( Randuin's Omen is perfect) and then buy Damage. This is not that of a hard line because he is fairly squishy and uses a lot of mana. |
Cho'Gath
Cho'Gath is a really strong Top champion in the current meta that can be a strong tank and still deal a lot of damage with tons of sustain. Don't let him farm because of his passive Carnivore and just farm till you have enough Health to kill him. Don't stay in line with low Health because his ultimate Feast can kill you without him even trying. Buy some sustain and damage and kill him while his Feast is on Cooldown. Always try to dodge his Rupture and just try to farm in this line. |
Shen
Shen has a really high amount of sustain on Top lane and can build really tanky. You should just farm in this hard line and buy items like Black Cleaver to go through his armor. If Shen uses his ultimate Stand United to go out of line to save someone, you should just push to enemy tower and try to destroy it. You can even use your Cannibalism to destroy towers faster. |
Nasus
Nasus is a similar Champion as Sion but he can just farm his Siphoning Strike and scale indefinietly even in late game. Its really hard to play versus Nasus because he has his Wither that reduces your Attack Speed by a high amount and your Movement Speed. The thing about this line is that you should buy Last Whisper and just sustain with your other items. Don't let him farm at all costs, even if it means to say your jungler to camp at your Top Lane. |
Riven
Riven was a really strong Top lane champion before, but when Riven got nerfed, she can't deal almost any damage to Sion at all. Riven deals less damage then you and she can't stop you from farming all day. But still don't get too cocky and attack her at turret because Riven is one of the best under Turret fighter in the game because of her kit. It is advised to not let her to farm and to just farm all day without pushing. You can buy an early Randuin's Omen if you want to make her cry because she won't be dealing ANY damage at all to you. |
Darius
Darius has similar mechanics as Garen but Darius has to build some Attack Damage to deal some damage. Don't let him spank you with his Decimate every time and don't stay in line with low Healt even if he has low Health because he can just finish you with his Noxian Guillotine. Buy some sustain to heal up from trades and ask your jungler to come to Top to help you kill Darius.Don't come near turret range if he is near it because he can just pull you with his Apprehend and kill you easily. |
Pantheon
Pantheon is a really strong Early game champion that can kill you in one burst if you are not carefull. You should just play under turret and passive and wait for his mana to fall back. When he has no Mana, he will deal a small amount of Damage, so attack him when he doesn't have his mana. Just try to farm in this line and ask your jungler to camp at Top lane. Tell him when did Pantheon ward and when can he gank so that you get a kill. If you kill Pantheon, just build some sustain and you will win the line because he has no natural sustain. |
Yorick
Yorick is a really strong Solo Topper that will be able to deal a really high amount of damage and will have a lot of sustain because of his Omen of Famine. He is a strong Champion after he has bought his Tear of the Goddess. If he comes to you to harass you or to kill you just press your Cryptic Gaze on him and back off. You should use bushes in this Machup to come faster to Yorick and deal more damage. It's hard to beat him 1v1 but if you have your Cannibalism on, you will be able to kill him because he is not a really fast champion either and you will have Ghost. |
Singed
There is just one rule in this lane and it is to NEVER CHASE Singed. Singed doesn't deal so much damage and has no sustain but he can get really tanky with Thornmail and/or Randuin's Omen and is really fast so be carefull. Don't get really close to Turret range because he can fling you with his Fling and you will take some Turret shots which is not so good. I recommend building some Sustain and Damage like Black Cleaver and I recommend you to ward a lot in this line because Singed goes well with ganks because he is fast and of his Fling. |
Tryndamere
This is a really easy line. Tryndamere maybe deals some more Damage to you but his Damage is a gamble, so if he Crits he will deal more Damage and if he doesn't he will have to go back. He has a strong gap closer with Spinning Slash and can lower your damage with Mocking Shout, but you will still deal MUCH more Damage then he does and you can even kill him 1v1 because your Cannibalism just goes over his Undying Rage. I recommend you to buy Randuin's Omen fairly early not because you are weak but because you will then be able to laugh at his face that he deals absolutely no Damage at all to you. |
Wukong
Wukong is a really strong Solo Top champion. He deals a lot of damage and is still kind of tanky. I recommend you to be really aggresive in this Machup and use your Cryptic Gaze carefully so that you dont stun the wrong Wukong because of his Warrior Trickster. Wukong has absolutely no sustain at all in line so you should take advantage at that. I recommend you to buy a lot of damage early in the game and to stun him when he has his Cyclone up and then run away. |
Rumble
Rumble is kind of similar as Riven is, but he deals Magic Damage. Rumble won't be dealing a lot of Damage to you before level 6, but when he gets his The Equalizer he will be really dangerous. I highly suggest you to buy Spirit Visage early in this Matchup to conpensate his Magic Damage. When he comes to you close, you have to just Cryptic Gaze him and try to deal as much as Damage as possible before he backs off. And always try to dodge his Electro-Harpoon and don't fight him except if you have to in his Flamespitter. |
Malphite
Malphite can be a hard line at Solo Top because he can just build tanky and still deal a lot of Damage because of his Ground Slam. Its recommender to buy a Last Whisper and/or Black Cleaver because you will want his armor to dissapear. Your only job in this lane is to just farm and dont push because if you push too much his jungler will come and you will probably die because of his Unstoppable Force and Seismic Shard. Dont overextend in this line or you are gonna die. |
Fiora
Fiora wont be a really hard problem in line, but she has tons of sustain and can deal a lot of damage if you let her farm. She is a late gama hyper carry that can almost 1 hit anyone other then you, so you must not let her farm at all costs and you will be fine. I recommend you to buy Randuin's Omen early because Fiora deals only Auto Attack Damage and you should start with a Doran's Shield. |
