Introduction

Hi there !

Here is my first guide on MOBAFire, and we're talking about the latest released champion, Skarner.
The Champion Spotlight showed us an AD/Hybrid jungling Skarner, and when i tried him, i said : "Wtf ? An AD champ with all these AP ratios ?".
That's why I wanted to show you an AP Skarner, playing on a lane early.

Skill Sequence & Summoner Spells

Energize Skarner's passive is awesome : each attack on a monster reduces his cooldowns by 0,5 sec, and each attack on a champion reduces his cooldowns by 1 sec.

Fracture has the highest AP damage ratio, and heals yourself when you hit marked creeps. Maximizing it first will give you high damage and great heal early.

This spell is awesome : it gives you a shield, and an Attack Speed and Movement Speed buff while your shield is up. You have to maximize it secondly to make your shield harder to break and to make the most of your buffs. It will make you harder to kill in team fights.

Crystal Slash has a double effect : the first slash will only deal physical damage. If you hit someone, your next slash will also deal magical damage and slow hit enemies.

This ultimate skill is very useful and awesome. You can use it to engage a team fight by grabbing an enemy carry walking next to you (he is really bad !) or grabbing someone under tower on a lane. You can also let your tank engage, and grab the enemy carry during the fight, or pick one of them when they run away and destroy him with your team.

What about your summoners spells ?
I play with and . You're a bit squishy, and Flash is the most useful spell : you can jump in and Impale an enemy, or use it to escape easily. Exhaust allows you to slow down an enemy to be able to slow him with your Q when you chase, or it can annihilate an enemy dps. With your ultimate and Exhaust, you can disable an AD carry during the whole team fight.
ATTENTION : You can't use Flash when you grabbed someone.

Ghost is viable, because you can use it while you impaled someone : then you can pull him very far away. If you want to play Ghost, pick in your Utility Mastery Tree instead of .

Runes & Masteries

Attack speed marks are very useful with your passive, and allows you to greatly reduce your CDs.

Armor and Magic Resist will allow you to stay in your lane a lot at the beginning, which is quite useful if you want to solo-lane, even if it's not the best way to play that build.
You could also play Magic Resist per level.

Flat AP at the beginning will boost your E that heals yourself. You could also play HP quintessences.

I played classic 9/0/21 masteries. I put 2/2 in because blue and red buffs are very useful all along the game.

Items & Creeping early

You should play top lane if your are blue, and bot lane if you are red. This would optimize your laning early.
Begin with a and 2 . This will give you enough mana and health to reach at least level 4 or 5 before your first back : try to get 945 gold to buy and .

If you have no jungler, take your blue buff : you should be able to go back on your lane and heal yourself with E. Then you can spam your E to harass, using Q to consume marks. This will charge your tear quickly.
If you have a jungler, ask him if you can pick his blue. If you can't, try to charge your tear with your Q on your lane and keep watch on your mana pool.

are very useful with your ultimate and your shield : all this movement speed lets you chase or grab enemies and pull them far away, if you play with Flash.

and give you a lot of Attack Speed, some AP and a high CDR. It boosts your passive Energize twice and you'll be able to spam a lot during team fights.

Your Tear of the Goddess should be full now : upgrade it in to get much AP. Then go on a to boost your auto attacks while you're spamming all your spells, and end your stuff with .

You can also play more defensively, buying or instead of if needed.

Team Work

What's your role in team fights ?
You're a melee DPS : if you can, try not to engage and let your tank engage. Then run in and focus the enemy ranged DPS : grab one and pull him back to your team then slow him a lot and spam all your spells. Don't forget your E, that heals you and allows you to stay in the fight. Your Q will slow them if they run, and your W makes you attack much faster (you should have 1.3 or 1.4 without your shield, and 1.7 to 1.8 with your shield).

During late game, your mana pool is fat engouh, you won't need any blue buff. Red buff will pile up with your AoE slow, and you'll be really annoying.
