Introduction

Long story short, I love Skarner, I miss when he was a season 2 powerhouse and I've constantly been looking for ways to make him as wonderful as he was then. After a lot of tinkering I've found a lot of builds that are all good in their own ways but always end up lacking somehow. Never quite matching up to other jungles for one reason or another. I've been putting a lot of thought into this build and I honestly think if people start using this, they will get a lot of out of it!

Pros / Cons

Pros:
Strong, very strong
Very fast, hard to escape from
Tanky with a shield
Slows out the arse and lots of peel if necessary
If you get full build, nothing short of a fed Nasus or 5v1 is going to stop you
Lots of sustain if you build a Hydra
Lots and lots of AOE damage everywhere

Cons:
Expensive build :(
No really... It's kind of expensive
Difficult to get started if you don't know what you're doing
Can be kited by people with slow removals
Counter-jungling early can render you useless if you can't get gold

Runes

Runes are pretty set in stone besides the blues, if you're first time using this item build I'd definitely suggest using scaling Magic Resist blues, outside of that, I've noticed that this works best and can really make up your early game without sacrificing anything long-term

Masteries

I know I know, there's a perfectly good movespeed bonus mastery right there in support but I'd rather throw a bit into MR just in case there's a particularly nasty caster getting fed, you get a lot of free MR from other masteries as well so if you really want to move even faster, feel free to take 3 points into Fleet of Foot mastery, but you will need all the attack speed you can get since you don't actually build any in this build.

Items

There will be a lot of conflict here, just due to the sheer cost of this build I know. However, keep in mind this is still not only an experimental build but so far it has worked pretty well for me. You have a lot of health, armor shredding for your team with damage of your own, the hydra only adding to your AOE capabilities.

The example build is generally your ideal build, it gives you everything you could ever need. Mana, Damage, Sustain, HP, Armor, MR, not to mention a 40% cooldown reduction. You shouldn't need anything outside that but yes, it is very expensive and I imagine the Black Cleaver is going to get nerfed any day now.

All the items are also situation-replaceable. If you need more HP replace the Frozen Heart with Randuin's Omen, you'll become more blue-reliant in the process and lose 10% cdr (20% if you can't get a blue) but your health will definitely jump. Hydra isn't necessary so if you find yourself needing a significant boost to health, a Warmogs works just as well.

The more snowball you get, the more offensive your build should be to keep the pressure on, maybe you don't need that frozen heart's 100 armor and can settle with an iceborn gauntlet for even more damage.

Team Work

You should have 1 of 2 jobs in your team. Either you're behind and you play the carries personal bodyguard with plenty of peel, or you're steamrolling hardcore and make a B-line straight for their carries and proceed to take names and dodge skillshots. You're extremely fast with this build, especially if you get swiftness boots and a Righteous Glory, don't be afraid to grab someone squishy and drag them 300 miles to the center of your team.

Did you know that righteous glory proc doesn't care which direction you're moving, just so long as you're facing the enemy? You proc righteous glory while you're ulting and you will always be facing your ulted target, proceed to move ridiculously fast into the middle of your team and then pop the slow when your ulti wears off!

Summary

All in all I think you'll love this build once you get into it. I find myself steamrolling just after getting my black cleaver and fighting 2 or 3 enemies at once alone. Even more when I built a hydra!
